I got my question in early as it was bed time for Australia during the live stream. Just watching the video now. I appreciate you answering my question and explaining the answer clearly. All the best. God Bless 👍
#Fear #fear (Might be an extreme case) In my first Three months of beekeeping I had a bit of a nightmare: My first Hive was a previously honey producing hive from a bee-farm that due to equipment swap over on their end (so got it cheap), The hive was delivered and after a week, I couldn't find the queen. It turned out that she died or was lost in transit so i just had a box of workers & drones. After a week or two no emergency cells were produced however the bees became Worker-layers. My Biggest initial worries were "Are they ill or diseased, how do I know?", "How do I nurse the failing colony from being Laying workers to be a solid hive" "What can i do to try and resolve the problems cost effectively". TLDR: I tried to use a frame of Brood from the Bee farm - Failed no emergency cells. Tried to introduce a New Queen - Failed Killed her. So i gave up on the hive, closed it off and got a new Nuc the next year. In my Second Year of actual bee-keeping My biggest Question and worry which i wish was told to me upfront was: What is a good baseline set of equipment needed for ALL YEAR ROUND beekeeping. EG Extra Frames, Extra Supers, Varroa strips, Oxalic Acid & sublimator, Harvesting equipment, Extra Boxes for Swarm Control etc. I upfront basic list of "the bog-standard" basics would have been so helpful early-on when the bees grew to 3-4 supers in size in about 1 month (did not expect that at all). I still don't know if i have all the equipment for a full season of successful beekeeping.
Really enjoying your content. I was going to ask about a video about approaching landowners as well. Great its on your list already 👍It would be interesting to know more about setting up the business as well. Questions such as Did you transfer equipment you already owned? Do you do your own accounts or use accountant? I was thinking of going ltd as well for protection.
More than welcome to answer any questions on here :) Yes - accountant did it all. I wouldn't trust my self. Yes - transferred over all assets from me to company. Can be very tax efficient! Ltd is good for financial protection but there is limited risk I guess. It's much more efficient for tax and taking profit far more flexibly
Had massive telling off at recent gardening club talk on solitary bees and bumble bees for keeping honey bees! Honey bees named as main problem for other insects. What would you have said?
