Pollinating the minds of the masses. Never heard that before but it’s brilliant. I take pollinating as always a positive. Some people pollinate and some pollute.
I was critical of Erika when I first saw her videos, but I’m now thankful for what she has done if only to bring awareness to beekeeping and those amazing creatures! Honey bees provide me with a therapy that only another beekeeper can appreciate. I proudly volunteer for an organization mentoring veterans and first responders who are new to beekeeping. If you want a really inspirational talk on beekeeping and it’s therapy, he would be an excellent guest! Love ya Joe! (And Erika)!

Wasps, on the other hand, will be in your face like they want a fight. I'll give them the fight and it usually ends up in their demise.

Still working my way through this video. It's a joy listening to her enthusiasm in bees, e.g., her protectiveness of pollen. If we are going to avoid destroying the natural world that sustains us, we will have to become more attuned to the natural world.
My most vivid bee encounter was when I had a service in an abandoned church in downtown wilmington and the south facing wall had this massive hive in it. Needless to say they were not happy with the renovation work being done.
Miss Erika is more of yogi than almost all of the yogis I've met in 20 years of practicing and 10 years of teaching yoga. Her beekeeping interactions are loving, kind and compassionate. She represents the union of physical and energetic - humans and nature. I loved this podcast. This is so beautiful and a lesson for all of humanity.
I used to slate Erika for not wearing a suit but I 100% understand so I take it back. My hive last year were amazing bee's and I never wore a suit. This year's swarm is a little more aggressive but have become calm so I totally get her. I'm so pleased Erika came on the show! She's amazing! She has taught me so much!
Joe, you should create an online honey clearing house. Beekeepers sign up to have their honey sold. Buyers enter zip code. The honey is shipped to them from the closest bee keeper. The site gets a modest commission.
I'm a large apple and cherry farmer in Central Washington and we use bees for our pollination in the spring and she's definitely right about the bee pollination circuit. We have family that had a large bee company with lots of employees and jobs and they ship them down over night to California and they work their way up from crop to crop ending in blueberries then they come up north. Lots of problems with diversity and colony collapse because of general health and diseases. Erika is a good send for the human species and more importantly a healthy world.
Notice that there has never been a controlled study that proves that local honey does not help with allergies. Anecdotal evidence from several people I know says that it does help. People that are interested should buy some local honey and try it out. No money lost at all. Good honey and possible help with allergies!❤
She says upwards of 20000 varieties of bees polinate our produce. The amount of polinators not spoken of is immense! If you plant or allow native plants to flower within your garden you will see massive benefits to your crop
Agree with living out of the city, I have to work in the city, but we have a house in the country where we go every weekend and holiday time. I love the garden, always out there. Springtime is amazing when the fruit trees blossom, the whole garden “hums” from the bees. It’s not just the fruit trees in the spring, there’s Mahonia, Japonica, forsythia and other flowers attracting the bees. I’m not interested to be a bee keeper, but there’s several of them in our neighborhood. Then late summer, we get swamped by wasps getting drunk on the fruit 🤣 Love this woman, she has the most attractive twisted smile, (like Ellen Barkin) it’s a killer ❤️ Thanks Joe, another winner guest.

I had a treehouse as a kid and saw a bee drilling it’s way into the 2x6 baseboard. Watched it work for a long time. Kept an eye on it for days and watched other bees gradually come in to help. Eventually there was a little colony living in the drilled out board. I’d sit in there listening to the hum, watching them come and go. Absolutely entertaining. Fascinating little bugs. Now I have a daughter that is severely allergic to them. It’s a shame.
An apiculturist had asked to put hives on my property. He put in 8 hives stacked 4 to 6 sections high each. At first i was all in as it seemed like such a good idea, all the trees and flowers were buzzing with swarms, it was so nice. But eventually dearly regretted that decision. My horses couldnt drink, my chickens couldnt drink, we could not eat outdoors. Every single receptacle of water that appeared would end up absolutely covered in swarms in minutes and shortly after be filled with drowned bees. Our eavestroughs were overrun, all of the livestock's tubs were absolutely covered in swarms dead and alive. They were gentle, but most animals are naturally repelled by the buzzing and so I lost livestock to dehydration. They also chased away all of the native wild bees that previously were around. We tolerated them 2 summers in a row and then they had to go. The native bees eventually came back but it took awhile. I still love bees but not so much apiculture or it's impact on native species.
