Warbreaker | The Beauty Of Lightsong

- Warbreaker is quickly becoming one of my favourite standalone fantasy novels of all time. If you’ve seen my previous videos you’ll know that I consider Vivenna the most important character in the book and I even go as far as naming her the primary protagonist of the story. That doesn’t mean, however, that I like any of the other characters any less. In fact it’s quite the contrary.
While I believe Vivenna is the most important character, there is a character I find is far more enjoyable to read and whose chapters I always looked forward to. That character is, of course, Lightsong.
Join me as we take a deeper look at this character and what he actually represents.

Lightsong was the most relatable to me, he felt like an older brother. Hope to see him in live action one day
wdym live action. Imagine a Netflix animated series of Warbreaker with Castlevania or AtLA(Even tho this one isn't netflix's)... that'd be dope as hell
just finished this book.
lightsong was my favourite by far, his final conversation with llarimar made me tear up despite being spoiled that they were brothers. it's a testiment to sanderson's skill at writing i think that we can feel so attached to all these characters.
My favourite character is Nightblood, but Lightsong comes pretty close after that.
... admittedly most characters aren't far behind that. Sanderson's characters are so richly developed its almost impossible not to love all of them.

My first fantasy book was 'warbreaker' or you can say my first ever book other than study related books. I never knew how beautiful a book can be and how depressing a book can make you. While the story was absolutely fabulous the death of lightsong was heartbreaking to me. I never knew that a character from a book can be so real. Though no one knows the future, Lightsong was and I think will be my favourite character of any book i will read.
I've read a ton of fantasy. I'm not sure if he is my favorite character of any book, and if he's not, I can't think of another right now. But he is definitely my favorite character of any cosmere book.
I almost always recommend that people read warbreaker twice. The first and second are two different experiences entirely. And I think Light Songs story is one that you really cant appreciate until the second time through.

I thought Lightstong was Hoid until Lightsong brought in the storyteller! Anyone else?

I feel like Lightsong from the start was a bit too naive to be Hoid.
I just read the book and totally love this description of lightsong.

I've always been of the opinion that people judge warbreaker too harshly. Glad to see it getting some love. Great vid on one of my favorite characters. One element you did not touch on that I always found interesting was Lightsong's great lie. Spoilers ahead
He constantly tells everyone he is a useless and lazy hedonist. Yet constantly helps people due to his conscience. Even then he states he will ultimately let Siri down, but even this is a lie. True to his real self he sacrifices his life of luxury to save his home and his people.
Hmmm maybe this video deserves a part 2...
@@RavensRants I would certainly find that interesting. Self deprecation is a trait I can empathize with in lightsong. However I like how his actions contradict his words.
I don't think it's that they judge it too hard, I think that by time they make it to warbreaker they are just trying to get through the cosmere. It's more of a task than something they are sitting down to enjoy.
I think that's One of the many reasons war breaker is so much better on the second read.

My only real question about his character is why wouldn't attempt to heal Blushweaver first with his breath? Or pass the breath on to his brother first? Why susebron when he knew he already had like 50k breaths? Why would his breath make any real difference?
As a returned he could only give his breath once and he would die. Susebron needed the powerful breath of a returned to heal, couldnt do it with his own
breath doesn't heal people, it was lightsongs boon that healed susebrons tongue
