Although we never get to see the interior of Barad Dur in the films, I love what they've done with it. The contrast of colors for the front of the tower ensures you enjoy all the detail that went into the build instead of having it all just flat black. I am buying this day one. It is sublime.

Doesn't beat Rivendell in my opinion but man, they came close. They just needed to add a few more figs and they could've surpassed it. Love that LOTR is coming back. I hope this leads to a more fleshed out line of smaller sets too.
I finished building Barad Dur and I believe Rivendell still wins the comparison battle. However, Barad Dur in person is amazingly impressive! So good. It may be my first set I’ll add a light kit. The only negative for Barad Dur is the minifigures. The Frodo and Sam figures were a very very lazy addition by the designers. With the price of this set they absolutely should have been redesigned to reflect how they looked at the end of The Return of the King.
Star wars and marvel have had enough attention TBH. Look at how many sets have been regurgitated for both themes it has gotten a bit ridiculous. There is so much potential for LOTR. To answer your question is it the best set ever for this theme - IMO no I don't think so. The figs are only ok with the exception of Sauron and Gothmog. I think that the Helms deep or Rivendell sets are way better. The figs in these sets are fantastic and are better than a lot of figures produced these days. it is awesome that the tower can be extended but a pain also as costs increase. The GWP is a pure marketing strategy but the set is woeful. The ring wraith only has minor changes. I will purchase the set but i am not happy about it as my plan was to wait for it to be reduced given the price but with the GWP I refuse to be chiseled by scalpers on eBay. In contrast to my rant I do like the thought process with the build details using the sliding joint detail and locking pin to prevent accidental collapse which is a strong risk with the Disney castle set.
All you Lego Channel people seemed to be so easily impressed by this undersized, incomplete, overpriced set and it's poorly executed GWP, Why? Because they came out with a few new mini figures? There are better versions of all of these builds and custom mini figures better than what Lego produces. They should not do any large structures going forward, because they will be poorly executed by this company. They should stick to MF, Battle Packs, and maybe the random vignettes from Middle Earth. Lego is Lazy.

I think it looks spectacular but bewteen this and Rivendell i think Rivendell displays a tad bit better. The gwp is levels above last years gwp.
The tower is beautiful and all the figures looks amazing but the Fellbeast is straight up ugly it's nice to get a new Nazgûl tho
