    Thank you. I am legally blind with Retinopathy of Prematurity since birth and definitely am nervous about bioptic driving.
    Seriously, I'm 31 and I feel like a kid again learning to drive. I had started bioptic driving before but am now starting training up again.
    Great video and you inspire me to start up my own vlogs! Take care.

    Very encouraging! I just got my bioptic and now have to take driving lessons as I have never driven before. I am thrilled but nervous. I totally agree with what you said about not doing anything that doesn't feel safe. I would not be doing this if I didn't feel i could see what I need to see, but I am still nervous. Any tips on driving?

    Hi Megan. I got my drivers license at the age of 36, thanks to biopics and that Texas allows driving with them. I have the same restrictions as you do plus limited to 3 miles from my house. I have optic atrophy and see about 20/200. Loved your video and thinking about doing some as well...😃😳👍🚙

    How bad is your vision without the biopics? I can't drive right now but I want to more than anything and I'm wondering if you think they would help me read street signs and see the dash board.

    Due to my nystagmus and bad depth perception I don't think bioptix would work for me at least not for driving it would just take me too long to focus on what I need to see at a distance such as reading street signs so the longer it takes me to read a sign through that binocular that's longer time of me not seeing the traffic on the road. However I would be interested in bioptic glasses for Mobility other than driving just to help me read a street sign see the traffic signals better find addresses on buildings or houses restaurant menus and like you say movies I currently use a handheld monocular for all these tasks. I do have a pair of low vision glasses that look like bioptic glasses they have the little telescope thing on them but they are not for distant they are for reading they will only focus on material if you hold it at reading distance. Thanks for sharing good luck.

    This would have been a lot more helpful if you had disclosed your visual acuity and diagnosis so that we could know whether we are candidates for this. Your title says that you're blind, which you obviously aren't. I assume that you mean legal blindness, which is quite different, and which is defined as acuity worse than 20/200 in the best eye with a corrective lens. My mom has AMD, can't drive due to it, and has gone to 2 low vision optometrists--including Lighthouse for the Blind--and hasn't been offered this. In fact I've been very disappointed by the lack of identification, education, and demonstration of newer tech visual aids at these clinics. It seems that we're on our own, and it's very difficult to know what all is out there and what is the best aid (and at the best price) to let my mom gain more independence and quality of life. You say that you're blind and now you can drive again with this. I don't know whether to assume that my mom isn't a candidate or whether the optometrists have done a poor job in identifying and recommending options such as this. Thanks for the links, but they also didn't clarify who is a good or bad candidate.

    Nice video... In a few weeks I will be getting my bioptics lenses and I can't wait. Vision loss was something that hit me when I was 18 / 19 years old and I've struggled with that ever since. Having low vision is a challenge and very much so a distraction but learning to accept it and deal with it is the goal. I went from having night and day driving to day time only and I worried about soo much but with this tool I'll be able to regain my night driving. I will you nothing but the best and I can't wait to get them....

    Just curious, what’s your visual acuity, after wearing lens correction? That daytime only restriction is an obstacle for me, because I’m extremely light sensitive.

    I am very happy to learn that you are able to return to driving with your bi optics. I am about to leave my current state and move to TN where bi optics are allowed for driving. I believe I will be a safer driver then most of the careless full sighted drivers I often see now. All states should allow the use of bi-optics. Thank you for telling your story.

    • @TheLowVisionNetwork
      @TheLowVisionNetwork 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Dave- What state do you currently live in where bioptics are not allowed for driving? Ocutech president, Dr. Greene is on the DMV board to help develop the bioptic driving program in NC and we also think that all states should adopt a bioptic driving law. Currently, there are only a few states that do not permit the use of telescopic glasses on the road so hopefully this will change over the next couple years! Congrats to moving to TX and good luck with driving!

      @Queen Mercy Thanks for asking! The are great! I love them. They are not required for me to drive. In Maine we can't use them to qualify for a license but once we have a license we can use them if we want to. I decided it was time to get them because my job requires travel over three counties, that's several hundred miles in Maine. While I am allowed to drive during the day I'm still not comfortable with it due to construction in the road, etc. The bioptics help me feel much more relaxed.

    When did this model of a Bioptic come out? I was prescribed one in 2009 that just had one scope implanted into one glasses cense not a piece across the while glasses frame. Is this newer?

  • @pageboy1974
    @pageboy1974 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting I haven't seen anything like those, they look pretty good. On the driving thing, if you meet the requirements then it is fine I suppose, but I don't think wearing that would be allowed in the UK, here you need a visual acuity of 6/12 corrected with glasses or contacts so I think that would exclude this device (though I know that is not relevant to you).
