A girl I used to know since we were in kindergarden found out as a teenager she had Macular Degeneration. One day she just woke up with a blank spot in her field of vision and.... and the doctor told her she was slowly going to become completely blind and there was nothing they could do about it.... I can only imagine how hard it must've been to hear those words.

It doesn't have to be sad! There's lots of really cool deafblind folks I know of who are activists and motivational speakers, who write books and are teachers. I have learned so much about distantism (which is like audism and vidism, but the combination of the two together) from them.
(Audism is the way we categorize D/deaf/hard of hearing folks as footnotes/weird/marginal to everybody else, and vidism is the same but for blind folks.)

Just because someone has vision loss, doesn’t mean it’s the end of the world. We adapt to our own situations. He adapted to his own situation. I’m legally blind. Some vision in my left eye and none in my right eye. My life isn’t that bad living with a disability. Even though, there’s still down times. I love my life just the way it is! Even with limited eyesight! We aren’t “broken” and don’t need to be “fixed.”

Yeah I have really weak eyesight i got glasses when i was 7 or 8 I watched a lot of youtube and played a lot if games and I was into reading books in the dark and my eyesight got worse and worse and now I can barely see anything that is about 20 cm from my eyes.
2 things,
First. you won't go blind from that.

I have thought about it. I’m going blind too, but it’s so hard to give up on the scraps of vision you have. The scraps of fun.
Once a year I say “I’m going to play a video game!” and load up something easy like minecraft.. stop after an hour and lay down from the pain for the rest of the day.
Today was that day.
The biggest problem is the pain. Any condition that gives you a lot of pain is going to ruin your life. Or your sense of life.

One of my best friends has a degenerative eye disease. He's a freshman, and he's predicted be legally blind by the time he graduates. This made me really depressed because I don't want him to ever have to go through something like this... He doesn't deserve it.

I wouldn’t worry. It’s estimated only 5 percent of glaucoma patients have incurable sight loss, 95 percent have correctable vision.

...I don't. I think about it everyday. I wear glasses and without them I can't read unless what I'm reading is 2 cm from my face. Otherwise, it's a blob. I can see perfectly with glasses but I always think of how lucky I am to be able to see. You should appreciate the simple things in life, dude. It makes everything more enjoyable.

This is the buzzfeed video that has made the most memorable impression on me. Not because I can relate -I don't, but because 3 years ago when I watched this I felt that I for one second could see the way he sees and I used that sensation to make an artistic project. It was nice to found this again, I hope Marc Muzsynski is gong well.

Up till the age of 6 my vision was obscured by color most of the time. It was like when you look at a bright light and then look away and you have color spots in your vision for a few minutes. except it was like that for 6 years
For people born blind, they wouldn't see pure black, because they wouldn't know colours so they wouldn't know what the colour black even is.

I'm 21 and I was diagnosed with Keratoconus two years ago. I use to be able to wear glasses but now glasses at the highest prescription do nothing. My vision has gotten pretty bad especially in my left eye. The vision in my left eye is exactly like his is at 1:07 But now the vision in right eye is starting to deteriorate. I can barely see myself in the mirror when I don't have my contact lenses in. I only have two options either to keep wearing hard contacts (this doesn't fix the issue this only makes it so I can see) or a corneal transplant which I can't afford. For now I use the hard rgp contacts but they make my eyes red and irritated. I'm scared that my keratoconus will continue to progress and I will be blind one day 😔

The worst thing that can happen to you in life is losing your vision throughout your life.
If you're born blind, then you never knew how it was to be able to see.
But if you gradually become blind, then you already experienced to good part, and your life slowly becomes completely different. And you have to sacrifice so many activities to adapt to your new lifestyle!!
To me, sight is probably one of the most important senses, I would hate to have Macular Degeneration :(

Jack Beckman I have it too and also miopia. You can still use glasses to see or do a laser surgery to correct it. It is nothing like what The dude from The video has. His condition is 10,000 times worse cause he can't see and there is nothing he can do but we can just go get a pair of glasses and we can see perfectly.
Don't compare what that guy has been going through with astigmatism because it's not that bad at all and A LOT of people have it. Plus you can fix it and it's nothing like what that guy has it

I work with many people with visual impairments. Some completely blind and some varying within spectrums of sight. I’m awestruck every work day! I need reading glasses to do my job. Without those, I’d be lost. I imagine how it must be for my coworkers living in complete darkness. I can’t. They are great people who do better than I ever could!

my mom said I will be legally blind by age 22 because I'm 14 now and a -9 and last year I was -7 doctors said with my changing eyesight laser surgery isn't a option really. I don't want to go blind how will I go to college, own a restaurant, and have kids like I wanted to? I'm fine with wearing glasses for the rest of my life but I never want to be blind.. 😢😢 no one deserves to lose their ability to move, hear, and see losing one is bad enough let's find a way to help the people who suffer from these loses.

Just take care , use black clases always , stay away from the sin, dont scrach your eyes, take vitamin C , always wear your glases , if your eyesight is stable at the age of 20 you can get PRK or Lasik surgery
I'm like you too, I'm 22, I've been using glasses practically my whole life and my eyesight is not stable... it keeps getting worse, not as much as you but, every time I go to the doctor the difference is significant. I asked my doctor about it because I was concerned and he told me my eyesight is supposed to be stabilized by now so he says it may be progressive. I asked about the surgery but he told me is not possible at the moment because my eyesight is changing so much. :/ Like the other person said wait till your 20 around that age your eyesight is supposed to stabilize.

I have a genetic mutation so I can only see out of one eye, and they other one is blurry, but not so blurry I can't see. And Glasses don't fix the blurry eye.

Going blind now isn't as bad as going blind back in the 19th century, didn't have as much technology as we do now. Because of my iPad, I can be a blind video creator on this website. That says a lot! Great video. I am currently legally blind. I can relate to a lot of what you say in this video. My main issue is Optic Nerve Enlargement with very little peripheral vision. My central is poor, muted, warped, and blurry as well. My sides and bottom are quite black. I use a few tools to function a little better. The last few years have been a growth and perspective that I never thought I would have. My health and happiness are not determined by vision, and they come first. Or at least I try daily to make it so. If you want to know more about the tools and equipment I use. It is in my recent video uploads. God bless and best wishes.

That's pretty spot on with what my vision loss looked like. But mine was my pereferal vision. I am very blessed to have had it treated and not only I had never lost my vision but gained it back. But I still have a chance of losing it again.🤓

Having perfect and even good eyesight really is amazing, and no one should take it for granted. I wish my eyesight was better.
This is so sad... I already had bad vision ever since I can remember and it's only gonna continue to get worse, but I have more empathy for him! I shouldn't feel sorry for myself, now.
god I can't imagine how that must be like...I would be distraught if I lost sight. Art, drawing and design are my LIFE, if I lost my eyesight I'd be crushed

I would be fine cause then I'd at least be able to sleep without struggling to hold my eyes shut. From my time in the army
I'm going blind too, I'm not as bad has him, but I and the doctors think that by the time I'm 25 I'll be as bad or even worse them him. It scares me because I love see the trees and grass and flowers, seeing my family/friends smiles. I don't ever wanna not see their smiles, so I do every thing in my power to make them smile.
That's horrible. I'm so sorry that that is happening to you. I cannot imagine what it's like to go through something so tragic. I wish you the best of luck, and of course see as much as you can while you still have the vision to see the world around you!
Perhaps in the near future, new treatments will be available to reverse loss of eyesight. There are doctors around the world working on a solution every day! Don't lose hope!!!

I'm going blind also. It's scary but staying strong and positive helps. I have a retina disease that cannot be cured. Surrounding myself with positive good people is my key to being happy. I don't let it hold me back even though I can barely check my mail outside by myself but I still live a productive life as much as I can
you are strong person i hope be easy for you, just know i care for you and anyone else who is going through this, just surround yourself with people who love you, one thing it does it makes you appreciate the people you have in your life, i just hope scientist one day can cure this, the eyes are truly special. god bless you and hope your life be easy friend.

I am going blind too. I am totally blind in my left eye and very very limited with my right eye.. It's been so hard to deal with. It's nice to hear someone talk about what I'm dealing with!
The color is spot on. That is what I saw in my peripheral vision when I temporarily lost most of my sight. I described it as a muddy gold color.
