I’ve tried to start in reverse!

Love the bike ! Could you tell me where you got the bra on the front of the wing? I’ve looked all over and can’t find one for the older GL1500 , I appreciate it and thanks

It came with the bike when I got it. My guess is it was from Honda?
You could try looking on Goldwingdocs.com
The administrator Scott knows everything about GL1500's. He would likely know where to get one or maybe even have one.
      Good luck

9000 km new breakpads ??? bit soon I think. Mine lasted more than 50.000 miles on the same bike FR & R

We did not change the brake pads in this video. I never mentioned brake pads in the video, so not sure where you heard that? Since restoring the bike from not running for 21 years I have 13,000km on the brake pads I installed and their in great shape.

Sorry, I am an idiot....You are correct and I did say I thought I might need new break pads on the front. When we removed the brake pads to inspect them we found they didn't need to be replaced. I am so sorry for the confusion. And once again I apologize, you were correct.

I’d of polished those engine casings to get rid of the marks that’s on them

They were so badly pitted and corroded I decided to replace them. I did try to polish them. I found a set at a wrecker for cheap.

You left so much out, we didn't learn the most important parts of things.

@@highmilagerider1154 Everything. Only bits and pieces and didn't show how things were gotten into and done and put back together especially the forks. I made a large C clamp and welded a half pipe at the one end to slide around the fork tubes to compress the springs back into the tubes. I never took them off to change the oil. Show the main parts getting into something and out of it. The long process is obvious. thanks.

The process is very long but maybe I should have shown every step and just had it be a multi part video? Thanks for your comments, I appreciate it.
For the forks I was able to just twist off the top cap by pressing down on it with my hand to get the spring out. We then used a slider bar over the fork to pound off the fork seal. To put the new spring in I just placed the spring in, added the oil and pressed down on the cap with my hand to compress it and get the cap started, then torqued it to spec. Used the same slider bar to put in the new fork seal. It went really easy considering it had sat for so long.

@@highmilagerider1154 My 94 wing caps were more than I could press and twist the caps at the same time. I know some other bikes have fill holes so when your need to redo them in so many years you can unscrew the set screw and refill it that way. That is what I did to mine, but not near big enough hole and then tapped it and set screws that I wanted. I don't want to ever have to take them out again. Yes, I know everything was a very long process and would have been hours of video. I was just saying, starting into the project, getting into what needs to be done or obstacles you encounter and how you closed it up. Yes, I know, it would take time and tedious. but you had 2 people. That is why I never videoed mine as I don't have a garage either. Mine is under a overhang and bike cover. People with a storage barn or garage have it made and you can take your time. I never had to change my seals ....yet. Only had it 3 years and only 17,850 when I got it. Now its 29,000. Thanks.

Hate when mechanics use a chisel on steering or clutch nuts. Buggers them up a lot. I make spanners. Down in Argentina the mechanics don't have many tools and a hammer is used a lot. Broken and mangled parts. Watching this video and taking apart a fork on a Falcon 400 for new seals.

Great video, have a 1989 1500 with 18000 miles....my thrid wing. looking to upgrade suspension, have they made a big diffference?

They have. Much more responsive cornering and better ride 2 up and pulling the trailer

What were the symptoms of this repair? At certain speeds, did the bike feel floaty? Was it wobbly? Did it not track straight? I have a 1200 that I think might need the same fix you are doing here. Thanks

    • @highmilagerider1154
      @highmilagerider1154  2 ปีที่แล้ว

No symptoms at all. Bike rode perfect.
I just decided that it was likely a long, long time since they had been looked at and I wanted to learn how to do it.

That right decision, bike is old, and bearing replacement and fork business is 1000 percent reasonable.

I have a 1200. Rode good but sagging a little. I put Progressive springs in and changed the oil. Much improved handling. I'll put for seals in next time I have it apart. Put Progressive heavy duty shocks in also. Haven't put in steering bearings yet. Felt tight when fork was apart.
