You’re positivity is infectious and it’s so fun to watch you climb. This video was well done. I even cheered when you made it to the top I got so into it!
loved this. well done anna. loved how you told your story and shared the process. the willingness to turn up once again, and again. really felt the vulnerability you felt making the final send all the sweeter
I love everything in this video. The description of the mental and emotionnal process of engaging in such an intense project, the detailing of every little steps of surpassing your limits. This is an absolute inspiration, thank you Anna for sharing your journey!
This is so inspiring Anna. I'm a little over 1 year of climbing now and I'm struggling with fear while climbing. I know I need to get out there and do some test falls but at the same time accept that fear is a natural part of climbing and will always be there. Seeing you say you were very scared and seeing you struggle with it, and then go out and just go for it and climb it is so so cool. I'll get there, I know I will, I want it...I just need to be patient. Thank you so much, it's a pleasure to watch you climb and watch your awesome content. PS. I'm from Madrid and I secretly hope to run in to you in La Pedriza one day 😁😁
A year of climbing in the grand scheme of things is not much time at all!! Its awesome that you’re even thinking about lead climbing and practice falls! The key truly is practice and being kind to yourself, because fear is always there (for me) im just learning how to better manage it and work with it each climb. Best of luck on your journey and thank you :)
Yo Awnster, just watched the whole vid. Quite awesome! Was such a pleasure to be with you there in such a beautiful location! Can’t wait to see your next adventure!
Watching your videos has reassured me so much that's it's okay to be scared, I just need to learn how to calm myself after! I get so fearful leading sometimes that it ruins the day, and I struggle to push past it. I've been climbing for just under a year and a half, and am trying to learn to embrace the fear and learn how to calm myself instead of letting it take over. Thank you Anna! Awesome video
Congrats, that was awesome to watch. Smith is truly one of the most amazing areas to climb and to do that route on the Monkey's Face is incredible. Well done!
I’m glad you gave us a window into the process. I’m just transitioning to ropes from bouldering and I got to admit, i find trusting my life and limb to a knot and some rope the size of my pinky a little spooky! Your fear threshold is way above mine but it’s great to see someone pushing past it, wherever their line is!
Great video I really felt the love you had for the process and the people involved. Keep doing what your doing by bringing joy to those around you. Can’t wait for the next big goal!!
Very inspiring, appreciate so much how you accept, explore and name the emotions that you experience. Videos like this really make me want to do some real rock climbing. Thanks for sharing this with us!
You very visibly achieved flow state on that final ascent! You looked so dialed in. Very inspiring, I gotta search for a project and more importantly some stoked climbing partners! That looked like such a fun crew.
Started climbing there in 1994 or so. One of the first "major" destinations I went to after I started. Even back then it was popular and somewhat crowded.
It's so great to see someone achieve something through sheer will power and skill! And I love how honest you are about your fears. What we do with fear makes us who we are; so inspiring!
really nice video, it looks like you put alot of time into it. Awesome video and climb! I really liked how you explained - how you mentally process it and going back to it with the different mind set, I think that is where I find myself needing the most training in. Just a question, why did you edit out the clip at 10:50? I noticed it and felt like like I missed something. Also raw ravoli!? Never heard of that before .. :) Keep on crushin.
Thank you so much! The send has a few jump cuts, mainly because I found the moments in between a bit boring. In that particular moment, I bump my hand up and down the arete a few times to catch my breath, and it felt like it slowed down the flow of how I wanted the edit to feel. There's a less-cut edit on my Patreon of the send if you want that!
Great send and way to push it. I love Smith Rock and have climbed Monkey Face but not Spank the Monkey because that is out of my range. We did the West Face Variation to the mouth and the to the top. The hardest picth was 5.9. Again Great climbng!!!!
Damn, such a beautiful climb fitting for such a beautiful person. I absolutely adore your personality and determination, you inspire me! Keep on crushing it! 💪🐵🤙
It’s the electric handwarmer I took up with me because it was so darn cold. At the last ledge rest I took my sweater off and clipped the bulky handwarmer I was keeping in my sweater pocket to the bolt so I didn’t have to climb up with it
Quick quesh! I’m new to climbing since spring and started leading outside 7’s and 8’s and a few sketchy 5.5’s that seemed scarier if I fell than a straight up 9 would’ve 😂 How do I hit the switch in my head and start leading outside rather than letting my more experienced friends take the reigns each time? Do I just be alright with climbing to each bolt and get comfy sitting? Or just suck it up and go till I fall a bunch? Please Help!!!! 😂 Wonderful job! I’ve now taken 3 climbjng trips out of state to the new Smokehole and the red! Blessed with strong friends but wanna start carrying water back to the village if you know what I mean! Thank you! you’re awesome!
Thanks! And good work! I'd go with experienced friends still, people you feel really comfortable being yourself around. Be kind to yourself in the process and take baby steps-- you don't have to take huge falls or a lot of falls, it should be more of a gentle process with positive experiences so you feel confident and happy on the wall, but still pushing yourself a tiny bit outside of the comfort zone each time. You can even start with a few top rope falls just to get used to it and work up from there. You'll be leading before you know it!
Amazing climbing content! Not sure about the raw pasta though 🤭 A friend once made a wrap with more bread as the filling though so I guess it could always be worse
Awesome video and climbing. I saw Tommy climbing this on Reel Rock and he used twin ropes because of the sharp edges but that was a long time ago. Did you feel safe with just the single rope?
I felt safe enough with one rope! It was a bit dicey weaving across the sides of the arete but in the end the major fall zones were just big, not necessarily rope-cutting so I was happy enough with one rope.
Holy crap SO RAD! I can't decide which to be inspired by more, your skill, your flexibility, your strength, your attitude, your dedication, your stoke, etc etc etc how about all of them?
hey @annahazelnutt great video! I was expecting to see you and Caldwell climbing together but it's also nice. Only a things to say: these are not TORTELLINI but a type of RAVIOLI, tortellini are differents thnigs; come to Italy to taste it!
Ooooh that would've been EPIC to climb with Tommy! But I'm just stoked he made a little selfie video for the film :) OH my bad I must go to Italy and try the pastas hahhaa
Damn, I would so love to do this one day! But without the experience and already being 34 (in a couple of weeks), I don't know if I'd ever get the chance to. I'll have to start making moves!
great video! ive never even bouldered outside so heres a prob very naive question: as awesome as the send must feel, arent u kinda blueballed by not topping out to stand on top of that thing? it looks so close.. is it just impossible to get there?
Hahahaha I knowwww it’s kinda strange it doesn’t top out, but also the difficult climbing stops there and extending it might make it a 3 pitch deal which would be hard for belays(?) to keep the grade and not break it up into pitches

This is like my favourite climbing video ever lol 😂 idk why but i love the vibe so much
Thanks for this. Beautiful narration and incredible climbing.
Amazing! Impressed how you face your fear, I try but you really work through it

Thank you so much! I like to address the fear aspect when doing these climbs because it’s such a big part of the sending process 🙏🏽
Inspired to try harder next time I’m out there! Love these videos
Amazing storytelling Anna!!

Yooo soo smooth. 👏🏼👏🏼
Oh shit, you got Tommy's take on it too?
I love historical tidbits of climbs like that.
Fair play...looks like a belting route :)
This is so cool
So cool! I get gripped on exposed routes _without_ the runouts... brrr! Did Kyle send too?
He did!!!
Congrats❤
Loving the banana T-shirt!
Nice story-telling and videography.
your sis crushed those animations!!
whats hanging from the bolt @10:00?

@@AnnaHazelnutt nice, thanks for the comment!
Great video Anna! Not going to lie though, the rope rubbing over that arete would REALLY make me scared of falling. ✂️
