    Love that this video is still on TH-cam. Almost December 2023, and it’s coming in real handy! Not only is your video extremely informational and instructive, but simultaneously thoroughly entertaining. Great work👏🏼😎

    A masterful demonstration of how to replace a door lock actuator. You are a great teacher.
    At times I was getting dizzy with the camera movements and then realized the camera man was a young helper who did the best he could under the circumstances. More power to both of you and best wishes.

    Cameraman did an excellent job for what his age, his motor skills and his experience would allow. He needs all the appreciation and encouragement for what he did. Please keep making more videos, in a short time you will be a pro. Thanks to both father and son team. Excellent work.

    Thanks for video. All i need was just to replace spring in actuator and its working great. Putting the actuator back in the door was terrible. It took me 4 hours in total, while watching your tutorial.

    Car D. Ologist is my man! - Figuratively speaking of course! I have a 1999 W140 and was fortunate to have it come with $22000 of maintenance receipts to include wheels etc but also and more importantly 3 tranny flushes. That said, I am not as financially prepared to continue having MB do the work and when I discovered your video showing how one can do the job oneself I was so grateful. Now I see you are doing more. I am eternally grateful. " Mr. Camera man"is an added benefit! Thank You Dr.!

    The cameraman did an excellent job and if you don't agree, just try to do it yourself! The technical aspects of getting the right amount of zooming in for close-ups and being zoomed out for wide angle shots takes a great deal of forethought and practice. I was so impressed that this team did not waste anytime with talking about inconsequential bullxxxx and got right to the work of showing us exactly what we needed to know. The video was done extremely well. I was elated to find this. It was so helpful!!

    Thanks for the video. I took my pc out in the driveway and walked through the process. Very detailed. The only bit I need to tell you is that the extra cable you came across was the only problem I had. My change out was for the driver side and that cable is used. The connector is way up in the top left hand corner of the door and very hard to disconnect. I wound up cutting the cable and splicing in the new one.
    Thanks for taking he time to post

    Good how to! Mine was the driver side. The biggest pain I found was installing the new lock. In mine the actuator INSERTS into the white flashing which is formed to drape outside of the lock. Best to slide it into that plastic piece in a clockwise motion with one hand on top of the actuator feeling the fit, and the other pushing up from the bottom of the mechanism.
    Everything assembled, now the window won't go down. Since light is fading, I'll leave it 'till tomorrow to reboot the system. Again, nice job on this and your other videos!

    Great account of this job with the world's youngest cameraman. Two comments: plastic tools are inexpensive and save you from scratches even at the wire anchors, and I wonder if the manufacturer would recommend installing new rivets or provide screws and nuts. I subscribed, I'm a fan.

  • @darrellsopchak4369
    @darrellsopchak4369 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    One thing you should mention is that it is easier to remove the door handle when inserting the door lock actuator. By removing a little of the door seal, there is a T20 screw that holds the door handle. Once this is removed, the actuator fits into place easily and then just replace the door handle. Also, that white plastic that the actuator fits in front of is not for weatherproofing, it is actually there so that somebody cannot come and try and jimmy the door open from the outside..

    thanks for informative video. i know these things take a while to make so good effort. disappointing to see MB made the lock integrated with the closing mechanism as they used to be separate on mercs up to the 90s, this meant a buggered lock didn't mean replacing the whole large unit like our 211s

    Awesome helpful video ... you don't need to drill out the top rivet, and just really look at the white plastic that covers the actuator. that can be a bit of a challenge to get the actuator back up in position . I took my time so I didn't break anything and it only took me 45 minutes.

      Open the door back up with all the cover panels removed, and only connect the door module power connector and the window switch. Then you can raise/lower the window and see if it is hitting anything or is just adjusted incorrectly.

    Interestingly, wrapping some sticky tape around the stem that is easily unscrewed (part close to the window, looks like a golf ball tee) so as to provide some friction there) does indeed fix the machine gunning. Problem maybe that the locking/unlocking action overshoots the end position and the mechanism thinks that the lock/unlock failed and repeats it bangbangbang and so forth. A little friction (the sticky tape rubbing against the side of the hole) may be enough to stop the overshoot and signal that the lock/unlock succeeded, and everything works again (at least for the time being). Compared to replacing the mechanism which is complicated and painstakingly documented by Mr. Car.D.Ologist it is an EASY fix (how temporary, is unknown), so, replacing the works is still on the table. Thanks, all
