When Ragnar said "I love you" he didn't meant it in like "I am in love with you". He meant it in a family/friendship way. I mean you also love your friends not just family or your girlfriend/boyfriend.
Shouldn't even have to explain that, but I guess they really don't know difference between plutonic love and in love.

This episode is always a rough watch. Ragnar and Athelstan were legit like brothers, but Floki had to go be Floki... I think his gods influencing him to do it was more of an excuse, since Floki hated him anyway.
I always believed Ragnar didn’t tell anyone about the farm because like you said he’s very set on his goals and his goal is to raid Paris but if he were to tell everyone then they’d want revenge which would make them have to wait a year minimum to go raid Paris depending on if they would be able to defeat ecbert in that summer. You have to remember that they can only go to places during late spring and all of summer because they need the supplies they get from raiding for winter.

yeah man, it really showed his downfall and just how much athelstan meant to him and how his death broke him, ragnar lost himself after that
Athlestan has ALWAYS been my least favorite character on the show and Floki in my opinion is one of the more fascinating ones so I was okay with Athlestan being gone. I do love how this show portrays the utter the hypocrisy of the Christians trying to label Pagans as uncivilized and barbaric when they themselves practice so much brutal, horrific shit in the name of their "righteousness."
