@Kurt Rustle thats funny because Charles the simple was the one who made the deal with Rollo in real life which brought an end to the countless raids in the west frankish empire at the time. He basicly saved the empire and France as we know it today wouldnt exist if he didnt make that decision. Some would say he achieved more than all the Emperors before him except maybe Charlemagne.

Yes Charlemagne owned the entire empire. It passed down to his son and after his son died the empire was split into 3 parts each grandson of charlemagne got a piece. East Francia, Lotharingia and west Francia. In vikings you see the King of West Francia, which will later be called France. While east Francia becomes Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The middle part Lotharingia is partitioned between west and east Francia shortly after it's creation, which includes the Netherlands, Belgium and Italy.
I originally thought it would be Bjorn because his name, quite literally, translates in Norwegian to "bear". Massive red herring from Hirst!

What Wellz refer to is the battle of Hasting. Which was defined in history as the battle that ended the rule of the Anglo-Saxons in England. While it's pretty well documented, it's very far in the future and I don't think the show will ever touch upon it since it happened after the Age of the Vikings (in a way). That been said, The Battle of Hasting was fought between the Anglo-Saxons and the Anglo-Normans (who came from Normandy) the kingdom that Rollo founded and built though he had been dead for hundreds of years before the invasion of the Normans happened. The bottom line is that, the Normans won the battle and ruled Britannia, ushering a new age and constructing the English Language in the process. the battle also foreshadows the centuries of rivalries that will happen between England and France.
