Thank you for the shoutout Trevor! We are indeed already working on a solution with our Deep Sky Dad AF3s motor or ZWO EAF motor. We will also prepare an automated flats panel with integrated heater, field rotator and more! First light looks great, can't wait to see more images with this OTA! Our unit is still in delivery, but we have bad forecast for the week anyway.
Hi there. I'm looking at this combination to shoot nice sky objects. I hope you can tell me if my setup I plan to buy is goid or not. I presently have the Sky Watcher Adventure Tracker, i want to buy a Canon 90D and a Rokinon 135mm lens for it. I presently have a Canon XSi camers which i plan to remove the filter. I'm hoping to shoot M13, the Horse Head Nebula and other stuff in Orion, planets, the Moon, The Vail Nebula, California Nebula, Andromeda and so on. I'm sure some of these will not work for me but I will try. Any input is welcome. Thank you.
I always love that you show your in-progress images - things don't have to be perfect or completed to share, and I appreciate that about your vids. Cheers buddy.
when I was first starting out, looking for my first upgrade from a kit lens, discovered this channel and your redcat review at the same time. Ended up getting the Spacecat version and is still my favorite scope out of the 3 I have and 3 rokinon lenses.
I was wondering when this scope was going to appear - looking forward to seeing more images from it. I love my Redcat51 so I'm sure the 71 will be just as popular.
hace 6 meses empecé a practicar la astrofotografia, y justo encontré tu canal, que envidia ese cielo que tienes en tu casa. te sigo en YT e Instagram, agradezco tus videos, de verdad me inspiran. saludos desde Chile!
Another great video! I bought my RedCat51 after watching your review, and it is one of my favorite scopes to use, day or night. If I didn't already own the Orion ED80T CF, then the RedCat71 would definitely be on my must have list. Looking forward to more amazing pictures that help inspire me! If only I had clear skies more than once every other month. Also, hello from Alberta!
Fantastic work and the Redcat looks the business Trevor! The Observatory looks awesome! Please do a video specific to the observatory/set up please my friend! Thanks! Wes, Liverpool UK
I like the gear ring for the autofocuser. It's a nice addition to have. There were some complaints about using the DSD on the 51's user group. Apparently, it put too much pressure on the helical focuser of the 51. I currently use the black cat mount with my 51, and it's been doing well.
Nice work Trevor. I love my WO GT81. Extremely good optics. I think Nico still has a few tricks up his sleeve for capturing asyro images. Great to have both sharing your information for us astro newbies. You got me into this expensive hobby, but I'm not complaining. Outside at 3:30 AM on a clear night is an experience that is hard to beat. Your subtle comment about a winter scope has me thinking that you could help us beginners with some tips on how to deal with winter weather and our astro gear. Do you leave all of your gear in an unheated enclosure during the winter, so that it does not need to climatic before imaging? Do you have a low temperature cut-off where you may consider equipment damage (mount drives for example)? I live in Ottawa, so we get as cold or colder than you in Southern Ontario. Cheers, enjoy the dark fall skies.
"Im Seeing Red" 🤯Great Review Trevor!! Very cool Looking Scope!! Love The Combination with that Zwo Camera, Full Red,and Even The Nebula Is Red. Great Shot man!!👏🏻
Great video on the new Redcat. I have the first version of the 51 but I will get the new collar to put a new top plate for a guider and the larger bottom plate to be able to balance it better. What a great scope. The 71 is cool also.
Great piece Trevor. The scope is a beauty and I loved the image. Really good technical info you provided also, and the image was like something from a futuristic sci-fi movie. Superb 👍☘️
Nice First Light of this scope everyone has been waiting for. Curious to see if WO goes up a level to bring us a similar design closer to the 90-100mm FL. Love these scopes. Thx Trevor for keeping us up to date!
Thanks for the demo Trevor. I have been looking for a smaller refractor for a more portable wide field astrophotography rig to complement my Tele Vue NP127is-AP900GOTO rig. Will keep my eye on the Redcat 71.
I'm very new to all this and feeling my way on all the auxiliary equipment that goes into this. Could you list all the attachments in use, as it would really help me learn?
You're already producing fantastic images and I can't help but wonder what you could do under a clearer sky! Also, thanks for piquing my astronomical interests. I've gone out and picked up a nice used 10" SCT and started enjoying working with it.
Hey Trevor, Every time I watch your videos I’m so inspired by your amazing enthusiasm & love for what you do. I’m early in the journey of astrophotography here in the UK shooting with a Canon R6 & ef lenses on an iOptron Skyguider Pro with a little autoguiding help from PHD 2. I’m waiting for my ASI Air plus to be delivered so I can operate my rig remotely but sometimes find myself frustrated by the amount of time it takes me to find & frame some of the smaller dso without a goto mount. Whenever this happens I watch your latest videos & I’m immediately reinvigorated to get out there and try again. Keep up the good work.😀
Not sure if anyone mentioned this, but a quick fix for your cable management is go to the local hardware store and buy whatever length and diameter plastic tubing that will hold your cables and then just cut down one side of it. Boom. Done. Or get some zip ties.
I know that a Petzval lens is an old-style photographic lens that, because the right kinds of glass weren't available, used the dodge of correcting for curvature of field by means of astigmatism - so that it had a flat field for at least one set of rays. Astronomical telescopes, of course, usually have objectives that are just a single achromatic or three-element APO lens, they're not complicated like a double-Gauss photographic lens. So maybe Petzval is a step up, but because modern glasses are available now, I can see why people would have doubts about that design, even if they're not justified, and this is an incredibly good telescope.
I am surprised to hear that there are still objects you haven’t shot yet 🙂 Great scope. Cannot wait to see the price tag and more details. Cheers from cloudy Vancouver.
Beautiful image Trevor. I wonder if we both shot this for the first time on the same night haha. The Squid is FAINTLY there. Enjoyed this video, as always.
Thanks for all the great vids! You sir made me wanting to join the hobby, even though it’s not so easy to have the necessary equipments down here in Brazil ;-)
Interesting, basically similar to the old WO Star 71 flatfield scope in redcat setup, 71 mm, f4.9. There are quite a few scopes is identical to this, such as TSAPO71Q which I have, and this 350 mm scope is a great widefield range.
Since I've recently retired, money isn't quite as plentiful. Sadly, this scope is a bit out of my range. Not to fear, I just bought the RedCat 51 and that amazing 3D printed RedCat focuser driver bracket that holds the AAP, EAF, and guider. Guessing my EQ6R-pro can hold all that weight :)
Hi Trevor, I've sent you a set of cable managers a few weeks ago, hopefully, you'll have a chance to check them soon. They fit extremely well on ASIAIR and the ZWO cameras and allow for great flexibility in your setups. Cheers, Nikolay
Hey Trevor! Love this video. I have a question about focus on a REDCAT 51 I have. First question , should the tilt adapter be removed prior to attaching a camera? Are there any back focus requirements? I cannot seem to get clear focus on anything. And the manual does not mention any of this. Thx Much Mike
To answer your question. No, those specs left me quite bored.. Did I miss something? Whats special on that? F4.9 is far too much. And which reducer I can mount on that??? The 61/274 EDPH has a much bigger FOV and is much cheeper.
Lovely looking piece of gear Trevor, heard so many good things of the Redcat 51. I do wonder why they don't make a slightly better Bahtinov Mask on these though for a sharper spike. Cheers Ollie.
Could you pls post some live view of galaxies and nebulas without processing the images to understand what the celestial bodies look through a 5-6" telescope telescope
That's a really good looking scope. However, it is far too similar to my 0.8x reduced GT81 to be on my shopping list. Great to see that DSD has the focuser in the works! These scopes are going to be great for those looking to get into some wide field AP wanting a bit more reach than what's provided by the 51.
Sorry - late to the game here as I just started considering the 71. As I understand it, no field flattener or reducer required for this scope - correct?
How much of an upgrade would the RedCat 71 be from my WO Zenithstar 73 with their field flattener? Night and day? or a subtle upgrade to keep my eyes on down the road?
Great video. Which filter drawer is that? My RedCat 71 is going to be delivered on Monday (12/06/2021) and I need to get one. Can someone tell me, please?
Incredible image and video Trevor! Have you ever tried to image the Deer Lick group and Stephan's Quintet? I saw a picture of them the other day and I thought that with your gear and expertise you could probably take a really special picture of it.
hi pete, can you assist me in an issue. i just bought a am5 mount, coming monday but here is the nose rub. i need to buy a scope and camera but high point is telling me that any scope with the focuser towards the middle to front will interfere with mount, now that sucks. so i wanted a william cat but those models of course have the focuser in the middle. what can i do?
Can you try photograph the exotic binary sistem AR scorpii. Wich countains the rarest kind of withe dwarf. And if that's not enought is the first and the only one of this kind discovered
Thanks for this video, one of man great ones, Trevor. After lots of research, I've settled on getting a Redcat 71 for my first refractor. Quick question. Does one need spacers for the right backfocus with the 71? I'm planning on using a ZWO ASI294mm and a 20mm filter wheel on mine, so am wondering if I might need any spacers. Would be most grateful for any feedback. Thanks again for the great videos!
Is Full Frame Sensor really better than ASP-C When it comes to these lenses? I'm thinking ASP-C gets "extra zoom" On normal lenses, Is this not a good thing when it comes to these kind of lenses?
Hi Trevor, can you please help me understand something? What would be an advantage of something like Redcat 71 over using, say, a Nikon 300mm f/2.8? Used one is about same price, but has a 107mm aperture and mindblowingly sharp optics. And with 1.4X TC it becomes a 420mm f/4, more reach and still wider aperture. What would be the advantage of a dedicated scope? Weight because Nikon's lens has AF and VR? Not really.... Redcat with ring, dovetail, and saddle is 8.2lbs, Nikon's 300mm f/2.8G is 6.4lbs. 1.4X TC doesn't weigh 2lbs. So what am I missing? On paper, I get a lighter, optically magnificent MUCH wider aperture refractor with Nikon for basically same $$.
You will be able to get the Orion and Horsehead in one go with a full frame. Or Heart and Soul. Aren't the specs the same as the GT71? The GT71 has a regular focuser, not sure why you would choose this option over the GT71, unless this is cheaper?

Can’t wait to see what you guys come up with ! Just received my USB hub from you guys!
Ooooh that sounds like it could make the ultimate imaging setup!
Excellent publicity Pavle well earned I know the work you’ve put in the last few years 👍
That’s great to hear! Thanks for the update and best of luck with the product development.

Thank you for this video, Trevor. I received my RedCat 71 today, so Germany will have a couple of cloudy nights now ;)
My favorite kind of video. Really enjoyed watching. Beautiful picture.
I always love that you show your in-progress images - things don't have to be perfect or completed to share, and I appreciate that about your vids. Cheers buddy.
Fantastic! So excited that William let you test out the CAT 71 before it is out yet for sale. Great job!
Looks like a killer imaging scope! when I grow the nads for imaging I will definitely remember this gem!
when I was first starting out, looking for my first upgrade from a kit lens, discovered this channel and your redcat review at the same time. Ended up getting the Spacecat version and is still my favorite scope out of the 3 I have and 3 rokinon lenses.

I literally heard about the RedCat71 yesterday and hey presto there's a video today!
I was wondering when this scope was going to appear - looking forward to seeing more images from it. I love my Redcat51 so I'm sure the 71 will be just as popular.
Fantastic first light and I look forward to seeing more of the that redcat 71!
It’s as if you have touched the heavens for us. You’re an amazing young Man and an inspiration to us all. Thank you
Thank you, Trevor 🙏🏼
My first light tonight with my new Redcat 51. Hoping clear skies remain until tonight. Greetings from Indonesia!
Damn, the observatory is looking sweet Trevor, looking forward to seeing some great images out of there.
Great video as always, Trevor! You inspired me to get to nebula photography, starting my journey with RedCat 51 and 8” EdgeHD🙂
i just feel so good watching your videos

Loving the backyard and clear skies, too many neighbours floodlights here. . .
I have a GT 81 and SpaceCat 51, so I probably won't get a 71 for a while, but I love that William designed in the focus gear ring. Awesome video!
Beautiful cable management.
I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these. I have the SpaceCat and really like it.
That looks fantastic! Thank's for the review. Well done Trevor 👍

Trev, proper astronomer, props dude.
I just bought my first telescope because of you trevor!!
Now hoping for clear skies.

So cool man. I've never imaged that one before.
Own a FLT132 and ZS81, both of which are red. WO designs and manufactures top-notch stuff.
Awesome video! I shot the Orion Nebula for my first time last night, I can’t wait to try again!
Nicely done Trev.. That's a tasty bit of kit.

Great looking new Redcat!!! With the way things are, we may not see this scope out and on sale until later this year or early next year.
I had to rewind to watch that slow zoom shot of you turning the lens’s 🥶🥶
I am surprised to hear that there are still objects you haven’t shot yet 🙂 Great scope. Cannot wait to see the price tag and more details. Cheers from cloudy Vancouver.
Wow. Great video. I wonder how on three hours of sleep you can still generate so much enthusiasm.

your initial review of the redcat51 made me get that ….. & love it! now decided to get this .. something a little bigger
Did you bought the redcat 71?
@@shrekshrek yes have had it since it came out... love it!
@@Kay_jay_999 I'm thinking about buying a red cat 71 do you think it's a good telescope for a beginner? And have you ever used it for visual?
@@shrekshrek the 51 is a little more forgiving than the 71 .... also depends on the mount & camera...... no I have only done astrophotography with it

That is definitely a great shot!

I collected about 50 hours of RASA8 Data with a dual narrowband filter (ASI2600) to bring out the Squid. So, good luck with a 4.9 Scope.
Looks nice. Would like to see a comparison of both red cats shooting the same target at the same time to tell if the 71 is actually better than the 51
Hey Trevor! Love this video. I have a question about focus on a REDCAT 51 I have. First question , should the tilt adapter be removed prior to attaching a camera? Are there any back focus requirements? I cannot seem to get clear focus on anything. And the manual does not mention any of this. Thx Much Mike
Which Red Cat is that on the Star Adventurer in your video? I am guessing the 71 is too big for the SA?
Regarding the observatory. Was wood planks the best option? doesn't it create movement on the telescope when you step on the floor?
Does the 71 have an internal thread for a 2 inch filter like the Redcat51 has? Lovely flying bat and you can almost see the squid!!
Excellent video! The cat 71 seems to use a very similar lens design as their older Star 71-ii scope which I have and it works a treat
Unless I hear otherwise I am assuming its the same optics, which makes *another* $700ish added to the price a bit excessive
Looks like an amazing scope! I hope they make some longer focal length quadruplet scopes.
To answer your question. No, those specs left me quite bored..
Did I miss something? Whats special on that? F4.9 is far too much. And which reducer I can mount on that???
The 61/274 EDPH has a much bigger FOV and is much cheeper.

Very nice! Can't wait to see it!
Woah man, a pang of jealousy seeing that scope!!
I wish these scopes were more affordable
And more than that,
