Lol. The ending. 😂 I still have to attach one of these to my WO Zenithstar 61 but I haven't yet plucked up the courage. I'd found two good videos showing how to do it, now I've found a third. 👍 Might have a go at the weekend.
Thank you so much. The instructions that come with the Redcat for removing the focuser knob are terrible and impossible to follow. Your video made it clear.
I have the 51 WIFD, and what I did to fix that not setting flat is to 3d print an adapter that replaces the vertical plate the EAF attaches too. It moves it 180 Degree and made storage a lot easier.
Love the plushie, glad it's not just me that's amused by the simple things in life😉Nice job explaining the EAF install, I know the hidden grub screws trips up a lot of people.
Thanks! Yes I know to a lot of folks it was straightforward but I’ve pretty much never encountered hidden grub screws on anything so I wished there was more detailed explanation. After the tail demo, the plushie is now on the dog’s hitlist so it lives very high on a shelf 😁
There is a focuser tension screw where the EAF brackets need to be mounted. The instructions do not say to remove it and to use the hole to screw in the brackets, but that seemed like the only option. Is that correct or does the focuser tension screw need to be there?
Personally to me it wasn’t perfectly clear in the diagram, but I used that screw as a mounting point for the EAF bracket, making sure it’s not too tight. It doesn’t technically say not to remove it - just not to overtighten it!
Cool info, note that it's suggested to use some LocTite (Brand Name in US) it takes a very small drop to pervent the small set screws from coming loose when temps change or thru the night of imaging. It's not permanent, here in the USA it's blue as they make RED Don't use as it needs heat to remove the small set screws, where the normal blue will be undone easily. I saw in 1 of you Solar Videos that you call it Thread locker...Agreed for what these items cost should be used! Also ZWO in the first few years did include "Thread locker set screws in the EAF box, but stopped as just about every ZWO EAF video on TH-cam they did not use them....LOL
When you removed the grub screw to get to the two hidden screws so you could remove the thermometer, you did not show reinstalling that top grub screw after tightening down the EAF coupler. Did you not replace that top grub screw? Hope that made sense. Thanks for the video. Just ordering the 61 WIFI. I am guessing I should order some spacers to fit between the scope and the dovetail plate. Enjoyed your video.
Hi! No, I didn’t replace that grub screw, instead I used that hole as an additional mounting point for the EAF mounting plate! Hope that makes sense? Good luck with your 61, I guess spacers do make sense if you want to keep the thermometer or want the EAF not to sit below the dovetail!
7 months later and they still haven't provided better instructions, thanks for this! One quick question that might be obvious, but I am over cautious, did you fully remove the "orange" tension knob in order to out the EAF plate down? I am assuming so, but at the same time, I just want to be sure before I do it. Thanks!
@@CellistOnTheRoof Thanks very much! Sadly, I ran into a rather unexpected issue. I went to loosen the internal grub screws for the temp knob and one of the internal grubs is completely stripped before I even started, so the temp knob will not come off. I am in contact with Agena Astro to see what they can do since it's only been a couple days since I received the RedCat.
Thanks for the video! After the installation I noticed that my focus knob doesn’t travel anymore the full range. The ReDCat 61 has the focus marking on the side from 0 to 50. After installing the EAF mine now goes to about 45. Did you have this issue?
Hi! I can’t say I’ve noticed any difference in my focuser travel with the EAF, either with the old helical focuser on the 51mm or the new WIFD 61mm. But with the correct spacing at the back, I’ve never really needed any range!
A word of warning about the 2 screws at around 2 minutes 50 seconds, from my experience. Do not totally unscrew or remove the 2 hidden screws, just loosen them slightly and you can slide the knob off. If you unscrew them too far they could fall out under the knob and jam the mechanism!
Hi there! I agree it can really be tricky with the internal screws. I think the important part is after the first screw to turn the knob very slowly while keeping the screwdriver touching the bottom to feel when it “sinks” into the second screw. If it doesn’t turn at all, maybe you’re not exactly on it! Good luck!
Wonderful video...hope the weather conditions co-operate, clear skies
Lol. The ending. 😂

Zenithstar should be even easier, all the instructions and other videos I’ve seen are much closer to it visually than the new WIFD cats! Good luck 😊
OMG Thank you for this. I could not for the life of me find those inner screws! The PDF just shows them as if they are already out and about.
Thank you so much. The instructions that come with the Redcat for removing the focuser knob are terrible and impossible to follow. Your video made it clear.
Thanks, really glad it was helpful! I didn’t even get any instructions with mine!
Thank you for this!!!!! Installing on a Red Cat 51Gen 3 right now. This video is perfect!!!
Really glad it was helpful! 😊

Link to the STL?
Wow, nice video. I would never be able to buy one of those. But that lens looks OMG level.
Wonderfully helpful video. I have the Redcat 51 WIFD, and you were able to clear up where the two hidden screw were hiding 😊
Muchos Gracias
Really glad it was helpful! It took me longer that I care to admit to do it myself 😄
Thank you for this! I'm not sure I would have figured this out without you (and yet I STILL had several "oh shit, did I just break this" moments).
I’m really happy it was helpful! You should have seen me trying it the first time 😁
Great Video. This one will go into my "will be needed in the future" information library. A ZWO REDCAT is on my wish list.

Brilliant! I think you've helped a lot of people! (Including me!)
I hope so! Thanks ☺️
I’m so glad I stayed until the end . Except now I want one haha
I dont have the scope but enjoyed the video . Its all knowledge gain at the end of the day

Did the cute cat plushie come with it? I need one as it looks just like my cat George. 😊
Yes the plushie came with it 😊
@@CellistOnTheRoof thanks! I think I must buy one now 😁
Its a genius design but instructions were never their strong point 😂 You saved me a brain meltdown 🙏
Glad it’s helpful!

love these vids, Ivan! :-)
for me it's the helicopter tail
lol
