The 34 Hour journey was excruciating and painful. But, as I said clearly in the video, we were surrounded by great people. Friendly people who we shared jokes with and were comrades through the uncomfortable 34 hours. Even the police guy, again which i report in the video, was a very nice man and looked after us throughout the journey. Even personally bringing us water from the staff's office when the train ran out of water. The Chinese people are some of my absolute favourites, we were in this together and we respected each other. I think we all hated the conditions but had an adventure together. That's what you will find on my channel.
Thanks to these two cuties, u guys achieved a big challenge. The reason why the tickets they oversold is maybe u r in holidays? And if it is during holidays, ppl from country side will wanna go to the cities to travel. However, due to the geographical environment, there will not be enough trains to take all ppl who r not rich or be thrifty to the destination they wanna go. So they sell the standing tickets and can be seated when on one there. This video reminds me I have took this train 11 years ago, it’s suffering when I was sitting 16hrs. Thanks the infrastructure development these years. Since abt 7years ago, I can easily take 5hrs high speed train to my home(4-tier city in China). Now, I just hope everyone can gain more money and enjoy the scenery along the way back home through new technologies:)
I tried translating the above Chinese text and made some modifications to make it easier to understand. 【As a Chinese person, let me explain this to you. The staff on board are very professional. You bought standing-room-only tickets, so you cannot rest in the sleeper compartment. The seat you initially occupied was reserved for upper berth passengers in the sleeper compartment. That's why the first male attendant (he is not a police officer) asked you to leave and escorted you through the entire sleeper area. Later, the people you encountered halfway was the railway police officer on board, and he reminded you that taking photos in the sleeper car is prohibited because it seriously infringes on others' privacy; but he did not specify further on this (The reason is simple: because he only knows a few basic English words and is unable to express thoughts and feelings completely fluently. In the future, with the widespread adoption of high-tech solutions like AI, this barrier will be eliminated.). The first male attendant initially arranged seats for you based on the temporarily unoccupied seats displayed on his phone (attendants can access the internal system through App to check seat availability). Afterwards, that attendant likely reported your situation, and his superior assigned you reserved spare seats (the superior could see in the system that the seats had not been purchased by anyone else). That's why you were reassigned to another seats--- although the location was not ideal, being next to the smoking area. Because you are foreigners and there is a language barrier, they provided you with special service. (All this can help you understand the so-called 'super-national treatment of foreigners in China'). The "police" you mentioned passing by every ten minutes could indeed just be train attendants. (I believe that at least nine and a half out of every ten people you saw wearing uniforms that day were train attendants/cabin crews.) Therefore, the train staff acted very professionally and because you were foreigners with a language barrier, they also upgraded your service for free】
About 200 yuan, less than 30 dollars, can span 3,000 kilometres, which is the meaning of its existence. This train brings great benefits to many people.
You should be grateful to the train attendants for giving you exceptional treatment. They even helped you find seats, which is unheard of. Typically, if you have a standing ticket, you can take any empty seat, but once the seat is claimed, you must give it up to the person with the reserved seat. But anyway, the Chinese people are very friendly and kind, so enjoy your journey.
Staff and policemen stopped his recording in the sleeper compartment in case he exposed passengers' privacy to the public. For example, someone likes nake sleep in the quilt. If you notice this point, you will understand why nobody banned his recording in the sitting compartment. Even the security camera only records the aisle.
Frankly, I wouldn't even take photos of anyone's face without their permission - it's just plain rude, but that's just my opinion. Something which some people of the YT and social media generation don't understand.
You bought a ticket with no seats but the train conductor moved local people so you could have a seat next to each other. If you turn this around, do you think if a Chinese couple was travelling to UK would a English train conductor move their people for the Chinese to sit?
You are very lucky. Because of your Western faces, the conductor gave you special care, allowing you to buy a standard seat even if you bought a no-seat ticket. Your original experience should be the same as those people standing or squatting in the aisle next to your camera. The conductor designated the reserved seats for you.
The police officers arranged your seat not to restrict your freedom, but to see that you are a foreigner and it is not easy to take such a long journey They specially found a seat for you, hoping you do not misunderstand. You shouldn't hate them, you should thank them more!
Not everybody in uniform police officiers LOL They are just train attendants. But I agree with you that they helped him a lot and with a good intention.
Westerners have been scared of Western police since childhood, because Chinese police are the same as Western police? When it comes to police, it is nervous and fearful. 🤣Chinese police are more for serving the people!
Dear friend, this isn't called the "real side," it's called the "another side." Both the clean and tidy high-speed trains and the noisy, old green trains are real. Chinese people do not deny our backward side. There are still many low-income groups in China, and these slow, old trains will continue to exist for a long time in the future. At the same time, our high-speed trains will continue to extend to every rural area. Backwardness and advancement coexist and are both real. High-speed trains represent the achievements of our development over the past forty years, and the train you are riding, along with everyone you see on it, represents our development goals for the next forty years.
Well said! I was born in Beijing. I'm from a regular middle class family. I never had to take a slow train. My family either travels by speed train or planes. You cannot say Beijing and Shanghai are not real China either. I am real. My families are real. All 20 million people in Beijing are real. We are part of China. We are one side of many, just like the the people on your train. Denying any progress as fake China is ridiculous!
@@Zerpentsa6598 This is nothing. We don’t have high-speed railways in many places now. For example, in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, only Linzhi to Lhasa has a high-speed railway. So we will work harder.
Firstly, your seat free ticket is not allowed to enter the sleeper workshop. Secondly, you should be aware that you have received preferential treatment, otherwise your trip will be like the person sitting on the ground in the video, with no seat for 32 hours
@@Mystic-HSeems the two seats for special guests not sale. The 30 hours journey is horrible trust me,When i was a student experienced too; This English gentleman is bravely, well done &welcome to China.
Don't worry. We Chinese always know well that foreigners visit our country they are our guests. Not our enemy. We will always try to be nice and offer them help if needed to make them feel comfortable and have an unforgettable experience in our country.
In sleeping couch no camera is allowed is quite reasonable. I bet you didn’t see famous China security camera there. That is reason the policeman asked you turn off camera, just like don’t shoot video in somebody’s bedroom. You are pretty lucky they help you find two seats, normally for ordinary locals, security guy in train won’t help them. Actually you were treated special.
China can stop running slow passenger trains because it already has a high-speed rail network and give all the line resources to freight trains (in China, slow passenger trains are a money-losing business while freight trains are profitable), but considering that there are still some people who are not so wealthy, the government still retained the slow passenger trains. Therefore, the function of these trains is not vacation tourism, but its basic function is transportation.
China retains the slow trains of the last century for two reasons: one is to take care of those with financial difficulties, and the other is for special transportation, such as the rapid transportation of large quantities of heavy weapons and equipment during wartime
@@BestluckYan i think the main reason is that it is a long trip train and for the high-speed train, it needs to be stopped and checked in every day to guarantee its safety, maybe in the future there will be more reliable high-speed for long-trip
in fact you guys must appreciate the police officer who find you seats since you bought standing tickets which means you can't sit in the sleeper. they might thougt you bought standing tickets mistakenly. even local chinese rarely buy such a standing ticket that takes more than 30 hours. so they might seem a little bit rude, but they were trying to help foreingers like you guys to follow the rules and survive your 32hours trip.
I remember that it took more than a week for Beijing to go to Urumqi more than 30 years ago because the speed was very slow. Almost no one in China goes to Xinjiang in this way now. Almost all the passengers who buy station tickets on this train are short-distance passengers who get on and off at the half-way station, while you take such a horrible way to get to Urumqi. Admire your courage!
You bought a standing ticket, which means that you don't have a fixed seat on the train, and the conductor kindly arranged a seat for you. The seats changed for the second time are exclusive seats for train staff, and these two seats are not sold to the public. I hope you can feel their good intentions instead of being disturbed.
You can take a standing ticket for a short distance, but not for a long journey, say for more than 2 to 3 hours, definitely not for 30+ hours. This train is not only slow but also stops at almost every station. The people on this kind of green train are mainly local farmers and migrant workers. China may need some double-decker trains to increase its capacity. The situation reminds me of a similar experience riding a super crowded, sweltering, World War II-style, overnight sleeper train from Marseille to Milan in a hot summer some 20 years ago. Nowadays, the green trains seem to be the lowest way to travel since travelling by the sometimes dangerous sleeper busses has been phased out. Looking forward to your next video from Xinjiang!
The reason for not taking photos is that there will be many people resting and sleeping in the sleeper compartment, which means there will be privacy issues. So no one is allowed to take photos in that compartment
Let me help you sort out the misunderstandings caused by your language barrier and lack of understanding of Chinese laws. 1. Your ticket is a standing ticket, and there are no seats. You can use the empty seats, but you need to move away when others arrive. 2. If you don't buy a sleeper ticket, it is forbidden to enter the sleeper. As for shooting videos in the sleeper, it is very annoying. This has nothing to do with the law. Even normal people don't want to be filmed in the place where they sleep. 3. Train attendants rarely receive foreign tourists, and the methods for foreign tourists are cumbersome. In addition, you don't know Chinese, so communication is more troublesome. 4. The first reason why the police asked you to turn off the camera is because this is a sleeper. Shooting is very impolite and illegal. The second reason is that no one likes to shoot in the face. Everyone has the right to refuse. 5. I don't know much about the laws against foreigners, but for Chinese people, we can shoot Chinese police during law enforcement, and we have the right to supervise. 6. The conductor found out that you are foreigners and bought a 36-hour standing ticket. As a conductor, he knows how painful this journey is, so he took you to find an empty seat (temporarily empty, the owner may get on at the next stop), but then he found that the seat is in the middle of the train. If other passengers get on, it will be difficult for you to give up your seat, so he violated the rules and took you to another seat. I don’t know why this seat was empty the whole time, but his behavior of giving you this seat for free is definitely against the rules. After all, whether Chinese or foreigners are equal, you enjoy better treatment than Chinese people without any physical problems. It can be understood that the conductor is kind, or it can be understood that he is operating in violation of the rules, but the result is good. You use standing tickets, but get a seat for 36 hours. 7. Regarding the issue of noise, I have explained before that this is a direct train for remote areas, serving older rural people. Most of them have not received much education. They are used to such a noisy way of communication, and no one thinks there is a problem. We can all understand it, so you can see that there are not many young people and children taking this train. Most young people and city people will take high-speed trains and planes, or use sleeper berths. 8. Regarding the issue of buying food and water. Normally, this kind of train will sell food and water, but you can also see that there are many people in the carriage. It is difficult to walk, let alone push a small cart full of food, so it is impossible to sell, but there is a restaurant in front of the train. You can go to the restaurant to buy food and water by yourself. From this train, you don’t see any children or young people, because this is a train that goes directly to remote areas and is prepared for poor rural elderly people. This train is cheap and does not have too many rules. It gives poor rural elderly people a chance to travel all over China and allows smokers to have a place to smoke (the high-speed rail is very fast, so smoking is prohibited anywhere). There are not many such trains in China. Basically, few young people and urban residents take them. Young people and urban residents mainly rely on bullet trains and airplanes to travel, or drive themselves. If you want to find very poor travel methods and people, then I will tell you that there are many. There are many poor people in China, many uneducated people, and many bad people, but so what? This country has a population of 1.4 billion. Decades of development have allowed the vast majority of Chinese people to live a wealthy life, receive a good education, and have such a good railway and road network. As a country from zero to one, this is already a great result. There are too many different cities, nationalities, people, and transportation methods in China. We can't use one clip to represent all of them. We should get in touch with them more and feel the different China. Finally, let me express my love for you. I like the elegance and humor of boys and the cuteness and smile of girls. I follow your youtube, facebook, instgram and China's tiktok. I watch every video of yours in China, even the comments under the video. I hope you can enjoy your trip in China, look forward to seeing more of your videos, and wish you a fruitful job.
I appreciate your kind words at the end but it seems you took a lot of negativity from this video which i simply didn't portray. I never complained about the noise, i mentioned it and how crazy it was but in a thrilling way. I joked and laughed they way they shout at each other, but in a way of endearment. You saw me playing and joking with the people around me, being respectful with elder Uyghur gentlemen etc. I even made a specific recording so that I could tell everyone that the police man had looked after us dearly, even retrieving water from the staff room for us. When we say that the train ran out of water, I don't mean they couldn't sell water, I mean literally nothing would come out of the taps or the hot-water machines. Completely empty on water and it was 28 degrees celcius in the cabin with 10 hours to go. I even showed us eating some Noodles which we were able to get from the dining car before the water drained up. Don't think negatively about this video, life isn't perfect and you will never find me making 'perfect videos' i make real videos about the reality of travelling in all different ways, including challenging adventures like this.

Thanks, I make videos all over the world though not just China. Also you should check our Beijing hutong video. You will never find a video of a foreigner going into the Hutong and drinking with locals - but we did. We're the only ones who have done this train. First of all, you should thank the train crew for finding you an empty seat. Secondly, take a long-distance local train must not buy a standing ticket, you buy standing tickets around are short-distance passengers. The staff in the train looks like stressful, but he is so kind, try to find seats and bring you there, although you guys got standing tickets
If any one wanna experience long-distance journey on a slow train, don't try standing tickets if you are not a vlogger trying to make some unique content. Taking a bunk in the sleeping compartment will be a much better option. In this video, you can see the conductor let them in the sleeping compartment probably because he's tired of communication with a language barrier. But in fact anyone with a standing ticket is not allowed to be there.
The person in the latest video about camouflage is not a military personnel, he is probably just a migrant worker from the countryside to the city, because camouflage clothes are more resistant to dirt. Military personnel are generally invisible and do not participate in social activities, and unless there are large natural disasters, they will come out to help society and the people under the coordination of the government and the army. Including the uniformed personnel in the previous video are not police officers, they are just ordinary train workers. In fact, it is easy to tell all the policemen apart. They will have the English sign "police" on their uniforms. There are also more security guards who wear similar police uniforms on the street. In any case, wherever you see the police and military personnel do not need to be afraid, but can seek their help (except criminals). China is very harmonious (of course, every country and society has some "populists" who are very few, and most of them are hiding on the Internet)! So enjoy the trip!
Dude, I cannot stop laughing watching your video. You said it right at the start that you got the cheapest train but went into the carriage with bunker beds. After that you looked so lost and as if you got miss treated and escorted all the way to your standing carriage. You were filming in bunker beds and saying oh I do not understand why I need to turn my camera off, this really made me laugh ;) Why don't you make another video about getting an economy flight ticket and go sit in first class seat on your plane, and film everything and show us what happens ;)
@@efei33 The staff asked these uncles whether they bought the standing -ticket and kicked them out before asking them whether they were going to go off at the next station, which means the staff never knew the information. After that, the staff still wanted to translate these two uncles to other seats, which demonstrates the staff only took care of how to give foreigners seats regardless of the local's feelings. To take a step back, why a standing-ticket person should give his or her seat to another standing-ticket person before he or she arrives?

In fact, they can also choose to walk to Urumqi, it is another experience, it is their own choice. Enjoy the journey.
In fact, the high-speed rail tickets are sold out, but it is still not recommended for foreigners to go out during the holidays in China. There is so much time in China that there is no need to squeeze in the few holidays in China. Especially more than 30 hours
Modernization may not be good for the poor in rural and have management problem. They may not know press botton and pull automatic toilet door by force. Put into their shoes, rural may be thankful have the freedom to choose a cheap and familiar mode to achieve destination.
Actually, the standing ticket has the same price with the normal 2nd class coach ticket... So i would say he should be able to sit if nobody else is sitting.
As a Chinese person, I want to say, man, you are really amazing. This kind of long journey in a hard seat is absolutely a hellish experience. I once took a hard seat for 13 hours, and it was really unbearable. The topic you chose, '34 hours in a hard seat,' is excellent. You have experienced what it's like for 'the lowest class of people in China' on a long journey. Their endurance is incredibly strong.

More than ten years ago, there were very few high-speed trains in China, and for many people, the ticket prices were too expensive. Most people of our generation have had similar experiences. It looks very real and nostalgic. Thank you very much for the genuine sharing.
Basically, we always fly from Chongqing to Urumqi. Taking a train, especially with only standing tickets, is just too crazy. The initial 'policeman' wasn’t actually a policeman; he was a train attendant. It was thanks to his help that you were able to have seats the whole way.
First of all, it's one truly adventure and hard journey, not only for two non-citizen visitors, but also for native. Besides it's cost much less than other way. From ChongQing to Ürümqi, it will cost 200$(US dollar) at least by plane, only 70$ by Green-skin train(about 50km/h! there's no bullet train for this line yet). And the man on train who lead Jacks to the seat, he's the staff of train, not police. It's his job to make train works smooth. If there's vacancy on sleeper compartments, he can ticket Jack from standing upto sleeper. As we can see from the video, it's a lot more passengers than vacancy, then he doing much warm heart than his duty, take the Jacks to some seats. There's several passengers using standing tickets squatting at the junction of the train carriages, it's common on the train.
As a Westerner, I believe you are one of the first or second to travel by the green train. This is not a Western tourist train; it is purely a means of transportation. It is very cheap but equivalent to its price. The only reason people choose it is because it is cheap. The British are the least tolerant of speaking loudly or eating food in public, but for them, this is just a part of life.
Personally, the journey was excruciating and painful. But, as I said clearly in the video, we were surrounded by great people. Friendly people who we shared jokes with and were comrades through the uncomfortable 34 hours. You go from the sleeper compartment to the seat compartment, there is a very crowded bar on the road, which is the counter for making up the sleeper. This kind of long-distance travel, even if you don't buy a ticket, you can get a bed later by making up the ticket
In case anyone encounters the same situation as Jack, give me some advice within my knowledge. But if you really want to try something similar to Jack's experience this time, you can skip it. 1. There are still many green trains in China, not all of which are high-speed trains. The biggest advantage of a green train is its affordability, especially for those like Jack who have no seat tickets. However, many regulations on green trains are relatively relaxed compared to high-speed trains, for example, smoking is not prohibited on green trains. 2. If you want to go to a place where there is only a green train and there are no seats left, you can buy a no seat ticket first, and then after getting on the train, ask the conductor if they can get a replacement seat or sleeper ticket. Because there are people getting off the train in the middle, it is very likely to get a seat or sleeper ticket. 3. If you are unable to get a replacement seat or sleeper ticket, you can only randomly find a place to sit like Jack. It is not recommended to find a seat in the sleeper carriage because the ticket inspection in the sleeper is very rigorous. If you really can't bear it, you can go to the dining car for a meal, so you can sit for at least one or two hours. 4. I have heard that some high-speed trains do not have tickets, but I don't know if they still have them now. However, generally speaking, high-speed trains are built for each person.
According to my knowledge, 'smoking is not prohibited on green trains' is not true. Smoking is not permitted in any public place, though I have to admit that there may be a tiny monority of rule-breakers ignore the regulation.
hey, Jack & Paige. Since the algorithm recommended your video of drinking with two Beijing locals(北京大爷) in a Beijing hutong, I’ve become a fan of your channel. That video was especially authentic and captivating! I really like your personalities and filming style, which remind me of people from northeastern China. Your catchphrase, "Nihao, Laotie" (你好,老铁), is actually from northeastern China, and not all Chinese people understand it. So, when I see you using it to greet people from other regions of China in your videos, they might understand it but aren’t familiar with it as a greeting, which makes them a bit unsure how to respond, especially the older generation. However, thanks to 抖音 (Chinese TikTok), "laotie" (老铁)has become a popular internet slang term nationwide. And finally, my favorite part was when you both, after all the hardships, got off the train, stretched your legs, exercised, and breathed in the fresh air. That dance was so romantic and charming! I love you guys from Newcastle~~
For the second part of my comment, I’d like to express myself in my native language, Chinese. I’ve been really looking forward to your episode about the 30-hour journey on the "green train." Back in my childhood, like twenty or thirty years ago, if you wanted to travel by train, the only option was these "green trains" (slow trains). Whether it was for travel, business trips, or visiting family, that was it. Your video really brought back memories of that time. Don’t get me wrong-I don’t miss the smell and the crowd, LOL. What I mean is that viewers can’t really get how exhausted you must have been, sweating with no way to shower, people shouting next to you, no deep sleep, and not being able to get the hot coffee or cold water you wanted. I get it; I’ve been there. Thanks for taking me back to those days. But your experience with Paige is priceless-you’ve got a deeper understanding of Chinese people and the changes in China. High-speed trains don’t stop at some small towns, and the tickets are pricey (at least for migrant workers), so you still see a lot of people taking the "green trains" for various reasons. There's a big gap between the lives of different Chinese people. Clearly, I wouldn’t choose to take such a "green train" today, and I bet neither would you guys. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it doesn’t need to happen more than once, right? Hahaha. First off, Jack, you’re really smart and insightful. When other TH-camrs are experiencing China’s high-speed trains, you thought differently and chose to document this. I also have to say that you both are really brave. You didn’t just ride the green train for a few hours to make a video; you dared to challenge such a long journey on the "green train," which I really admire. Salute~~~~~~~~~ But I saw some other comments from friends saying you should thank the train staff, as they gave you special treatment and helped you find seats. Back in our day, having a seat was lucky and happy, and we could endure all kinds of smells and noise. When I was a kid, I would crawl under the seats like where you and Paige sat, and sleep in that cramped space, so you can imagine how bad it smelled and how tough the conditions were. I know it’s not perfect, and rapid development brings many issues, but I’m still grateful for all these changes happening within a generation-they are positive. At least our kids have choices and don’t have to go through this. Lastly, I want to say that today’s "green trains" are still full of stories. Compared to talking to the camera, if you could learn a bit more Mandarin, you might hear many wonderful stories from the simple folks around you, those who smell like smoke and don’t understand social distance and etiquette but are very genuine. Your 30-plus hours might not have been so hard, and we viewers would be even more entertained.
Great insights, I enjoyed reading your comment. I also subscribed after watching their heart warming interaction with the two gentlemen in the hutongs!
I rode this train 20 years ago, I still remember the 24 hour journey with no seats, fresh in memory.I wish you a happy trip, Xinjiang is a beautiful place(from translation).🥰🥰
Hi,Jack. In fact, there is a trick to riding this green train. Usually, we go to the No. 7 Train carriage (next to the Dining car carriage). In the first instance we get on the train and ask the train attendant , if it is possible to upgrade to a sleeper ticket. I also follow you in bilibili, and in your first video(16:28), there are people like that upgrading their sleeper tickets. Because there will be some people for some personal reasons do not come up or cancel the order, and then there will be empty sleeper and seat. This kind of train is usually not the use of smart phone tickets middle-aged and elderly, most young people are willing to pay more money for this, is really sad, for your spirit I admire.
An absolutely incredible video. Incredible journey! Thank you for sharing this with your TH-cam audience. I subscribed your channel instantly after viewing this video. Great job lad!
I think they're so lucky got prioritized by the train officer so they got seat. Those officers got confused find out two foreigners stranded inside a low class train, they thought something must be gone wrong.
Wowzers now that was a tough journey and a salute you both for doing it !! It must have been such a struggle but to see the ones that had to stand or lie in floors was crazy . Thanks for sharing the reality of life 🙌
local residents will choose green trains when traveling, because they are only one or a few stops away, and standing tickets are not painful for them. But never choose a standing ticket for more than four hours, you will be very miserable unless you have no choice. Or very courageous to challenge.
We knew it! Even Chinese people are not easy to stay positive after 36 hours on an old train by sitting those hard seats. Well, you should thank to those people who help you find these seats, anyhow. Anyhow, respect.
1986 to 1990, I took such train from Chengdu to Shanghai, 48 hours, then 8 hours transit, then another 24 hours to Fuzhou to study. I slept under the seat or on luggage holding area, those were the best place to slept.
I haven’t been on a green train in over twenty years. When I was in college 20 years ago, I also bought standing tickets. From Beijing to Chengdu, I stood all day and all night! ! Hahahaha, but it’s funny. Every train in China has police deployed to maintain law and order. This is normal. They will keep everyone safe. The older generation of Chinese people are very frugal, so it is necessary to keep these cheap green trains. Just like my mother, she has a lot of money, but she is reluctant to buy even a bottle of drink when she goes to play.
You are very courageous. When I was in school, I only did a 12-hour green car ride. I bought a sleeper berth at that time, and it felt like the time was very long. Now the high-speed rail conditions are much better, but it is not as comfortable as a sleeper berth, haha.
There is good reason why these low class green trains are still in use, these trains play important role to link those small towns, villages that remotely from major city, provide affordable transport to people. High speed train normally stops at major city/town.
At 11:31 in the video, due to your tickets are standing tickets in the ordinary carriage, you are not allowed to occupy the seats in the sleeper carriage. The police asked you to leave the sleeper carriage and return to the ordinary carriage. This is the Chinese riding rules, and you should abide by it.
Mad respect guys! You have broke my record, the longest I have taken on that train was 28 hours with a hard sit ticket when I was studying in the uni (because student discount for 50% off). It was painful, I can't image to take that again
China's railway system is an independent kingdom with its own police and courts. The military police will never intervene in the railway system unless it is wartime. In China, there are no military police; camouflage uniforms belong to field troops, but generally, they are a type of clothing that ordinary people love to wear. Anyway, I admire your courage to take China's long-distance green train. Thirty years ago, I took it once for a five-hour journey, and I swore I would never try to travel long distances by train again. In fact, I have kept that promise.
When I was in college, I also had a fantasy of taking a twenty-hour train ride to Urumqi, to see the scenery along the way and feel the different atmosphere of life, but I never thought of a standing ticket, and then I never did so again!😂
Hope everyone can know that there are 3000 kilometers from Chongqing to Urumqi. The ticket without seat is ¥278.5, which is approximately $38 or 30 pounds, that is, about 0.1 yuan or 0.014 dollars or 0.011 pounds per kilometer.
This video also proved that why China is still a developing country, per GDP is only 10000 dollars, wealth gap is still huge in China, people in eastern China live better life than those in the western China.Living standards in city is usually better than rural area. Northwest is one of the least developed areas in China, especially US’s wrongful sanction on Xinjiang,it will only leading people’s life in Xinjiang poorer and bring chaos and destabilization to China. Hope Xinjiang can develop better under US sanctions.Stay strong China, stay strong Xinjiang.
It is already an UPPER MIDDLE INCOME nation where it has reached around USD 12-13000. Xinjiang’s foreign trade is NOT dependent on the US as it traditionally trades mostly with Russia and Central Asia, and there are FTAs China have forged with other countries and regions. And the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) since 2013.

I am a person from rural China. The author experienced 36 hours on a train in China. It was also an unforgettable experience for me. When I was a child, I took such trains from one city to another until high-speed trains became available. This is my memory too.
Crazy, I took a train for 8 hours and I felt like screaming, sitting for 8 hours made my body ache, I give you a thumbs up for being able to survive on the train for 34 hours 😂😂😂
OMG! you guys really got the nerves taking the green train in China with a no-seat ticket. I worked in China from 1990 to 2016, I have never been on a green train. But you guys are lucky, the train stuff actually treat you very nice, give you special treatment in gettinvg you seats, otherwise 32 hours standing in a green train might make you nuts 🤣
You're amazing, as a Chinese, I haven't traveled on a train for that long in almost a decade, and that's with no seat tickets! That was my experience when I was a student.
But most of the people here won't follow the whole process you've been through, they get up and down for a few stops, and for people who really needs to transfer from place to place, It's the only way to solve it by selling no-seat tickets. You actually can pay for a bed on the half way once anybody gets off the train and the beds become available, just ask the conductor. Also, another way is going to the dining car, buy yourself a meal, You can have the seat forever.
These men in uniform are train attendants。They have a small lounge at the head or back of each carriage。There are usually one or two police officers on the whole train for emergencies, but they are not authorized to arrange you a seat 。
Still selling the tickets without seats is because to take care of the people cannot afford the price of the berth or high speed train, otherwise all the “green trains”would be replaced by the high speed trains. You can see a lot of people in the carriage seems like farmers or villagers from remote areas, this low price ticket helps them a lot.
Your video has brought back memories of experience of travelling on the similar kind of train from Shanghai to Guangzhou in 1988 and after one night in Guangzhou, rushing back home to Hong Kong. It was the first of my visits to China. My first visit was an interflow trip to 2 universities in Nanjing and Shanghai during the summer holiday in 1988 when I was studying at the University of HK. The experience was unforgettable as every inch of floor was taken up by passengers sitting or lying. There was even a man sleeping underneath my seat. it was a bit chaotic but luckily, no crimes happened. Witnessing the situation, I prayed for my motherland. Now, I take pride in the unprecedented developments in China. I still could remember a Japanese friend who told me that China deserved to be invaded by the Japanese armies in history because of survival of the fittest which was the law of Nature. I hope that China will remain strong and has the power to protect itself from invasions.

I haven't been on this low speed green train for almost ten years.I really admire your courage. But for me I would choose to fly to Urumqi.😂😂😂😂

(I believe that at least nine and a half out of every ten people you saw wearing uniforms that day were train attendants/cabin crews.)
Therefore, the train staff acted very professionally and because you were foreigners with a language barrier, they also upgraded your service for free】
Your efforts of writing all these paragraphs have gone to waste if you write in a language nobody understands.

True!!!
If the situation is reversed, if a Chinese person on a ghetto bus in South L.A, he will probably get robbed or beat up.
They bought standing tickets. Please follow the standing ticket rules
You bought a ticket with no seats but the train conductor moved local people so you could have a seat next to each other. If you turn this around, do you think if a Chinese couple was travelling to UK would a English train conductor move their people for the Chinese to sit?

Chinese people do not deny our backward side. There are still many low-income groups in China, and these slow, old trains will continue to exist for a long time in the future.
At the same time, our high-speed trains will continue to extend to every rural area. Backwardness and advancement coexist and are both real.
High-speed trains represent the achievements of our development over the past forty years, and the train you are riding, along with everyone you see on it, represents our development goals for the next forty years.

Standing ticket 34 hours can not imagine, as long as you stand for more than 6 hours will be irritable. I might even jump out of the car.
And the most important is that tickets are very cheap
Indeed, those people have really low income, they do not want to spend $ on road expenses.

Basically, we always fly from Chongqing to Urumqi. Taking a train, especially with only standing tickets, is just too crazy. The initial 'policeman' wasn’t actually a policeman; he was a train attendant. It was thanks to his help that you were able to have seats the whole way.
Standing tickets are for shorter distance 1 maybe 2 stations. That's why the rail staffs were concerned.
YOU ARE RICH
Even the police guy, again which i report in the video, was a very nice man and looked after us throughout the journey. Even personally bringing us water from the staff's office when the train ran out of water.

Smoking is not allowed in the train's carriages, but is allowed at the junction of the two carriages.

hey, Jack & Paige.
Paige is amazing to be willing to go thru this and still smiley all the time.

This is a big challenge even for Chinese people back in 30 years ago. Standing for nearly two days on the train is no joke. Great experience though!
Just try to make clear that the people with uniform are not police. They are just railway staff. It is just their uniforms looks like police uniform.
In fact, I have kept that promise.
ur lucky bro u girl aint complaining much shes a sweet heart
When I was in college, I also had a fantasy of taking a twenty-hour train ride to Urumqi, to see the scenery along the way and feel the different atmosphere of life, but I never thought of a standing ticket, and then I never did so again!😂
this train maybe older than you, Can't believe you guys can make it , and all time positive, even though I take that train I will cry.
Hope everyone can know that there are 3000 kilometers from Chongqing to Urumqi. The ticket without seat is ¥278.5, which is approximately $38 or 30 pounds, that is, about 0.1 yuan or 0.014 dollars or 0.011 pounds per kilometer.
Never have I dared to travel with the lowest class train of China, amazing you guys
@@侯嘉琪-t8sThere are other news items from Chinese media outlets like Xinhua and CGTN/CCTV featuring Uyghur workers in factories producing textiles, automobiles, machineries and equipment of various kinds, oil and gas products, food products and those in the retail, transportation, tourism and logistics sectors.

note: in China railway, 无座(no seat) means no reserved seat, u can sit on any empty seat.
Well, China is still a developing country with 1.4 billion people. if you go out of your way to find some hardships you will not be disappointed. But one thing is for sure, your safety is guaranteed.
I am a person from rural China. The author experienced 36 hours on a train in China. It was also an unforgettable experience for me. When I was a child, I took such trains from one city to another until high-speed trains became available. This is my memory too.
I just left comment on your last video asking for update, and here it is!!!😂😂😂 but why do you "torture" yourself.
Crazy, I took a train for 8 hours and I felt like screaming, sitting for 8 hours made my body ache, I give you a thumbs up for being able to survive on the train for 34 hours 😂😂😂
Wonder what you were expecting when you booked a standing ticket? They are so accommodating to find you seats.
You are lucky to be helped to get a seat. The chances like this will be very slim in Europe, regardless of what color is your skin.
OMG! you guys really got the nerves taking the green train in China with a no-seat ticket. I worked in China from 1990 to 2016, I have never been on a green train. But you guys are lucky, the train stuff actually treat you very nice, give you special treatment in gettinvg you seats, otherwise 32 hours standing in a green train might make you nuts 🤣
The Train Guard is getting you a proper seat! ^^°^^ Lovely! 💘💝💖💯👍👍👍
It’s not the real side. It’s the lowest side. Every country has its own lowest side, you can’t say it’s a real or normal side
There so many people in chian, many of them are not long traveling men, so they haven't seats
I think the blogger try to blend in with the community not going well but the barrier of language makes the other thinking indeed China are not what you think it is”rude people” but I appreciate you have a guts travelling on the lowest class of the journey 👍👍👍👍👍.
