Do you known that you’ve been given the title of “iron butt” by Chinese fans for taking the 30 hours seating train? Your Chinese is improving quickly. Fun to watch you having a few drinks and chatting up the locals. I like your style. 😂😂😂
The only traveller/youtuber came to China to travel actually tries to learn the language, says xiexie to everyone, speaks quite accurate Chinese to talk to people, shows he truly loves the place he is visiting and willing to start some more conversations and talk to the locals, respect! And once again, have fun in China mate🎉
Once again....thoroughly impressed with how you are able to speak the local language wherever you visit. It's one thing to be able to greet or order at a restaurant but to be able to explain Brexit in Mandarin is something wild.
I can't believe Jack is giving free legal advice on a second-class Chinese sleeper train from Shanghai to Beijing after drinking half a bottle of baijiu. To be honest, that conversation is a bit intense and weird, but I guess it's always good for Jack to engage in conversation with a local to practice his Chinese-speaking skills.
Nope, i can safely say that anyone can set up an UK company, you can use an virtual address, its all legal, in fact the government encourages it, as more tax revenues. @witlof5492
@yishanbai955 I didn't say it was illegal, I just said there were companies which exploited the covid loan system in the UK. Some people set up companies, got a covid loan, I believe they could get a maximum of £50k, then they closed the company down and disappeared with the money back to their home country.
@witlof5492 just checked the Covid loan you mentioned, it has to prove two things.1 prior to Covid, the business was viable.2 the business is adversely affected by Covid. Unless they can predict there will be Covid& there will be a COVID LOAN, it is very unlikely. How strange when that woman just mentioned' her friend has a UK company',you said this Covid loan thing, it's very biased and racist though.its likely she has a business and wants to expand abroad.
the trains running between Beijing and Shanghai are known as “moving offices”😂 a large portion of passengers are office workers who are going for business trips
one of the most genuine "china travel" youtubers . always try something authentic and local, and also very very talented in learning new languages that i can tell for sure. 👍
Very talented for learning languages so fast especially hard language like Chinese. 👍 I only have taken soft sleepers for long train journeys as those were much more private and comfortable. Having fun with your trips in China!
Chinese living in London for many years here. Even before Brexit we would need separate visas to travel to the UK and to other European countries, because the UK never joined Schengen. As for the locked door to the dining car, I haven't travelled on the new type D-class sleeper trains myself but I think it should be the same principle. Not because you're not allowed to the other side. It's the opposite, people in the seated coaches aren't allowed to the sleeper side. I only used the Caledonian Sleeper once to go to Glasgow. Probably because the WCML was twisty it wasn't a very nice sleeping experience, but comfortable enough and cheap in August as an alternative route to the Fringe. A few years later they removed the option for solo travellers to share a cabin with a stranger, apparently because it was so unpopular with privacy-valuing Brits, so now it would cost at least something like £200. I'm so glad to come across your sharing your experience of a Chinese sleeper train, as I think this British attitude of "hotel experience on rail" is completely missing the point that it should first be about transporting people in an environmentally friendly, time effective and reasonably comfortable way.
That Chinese lady asking about business is probably loaded and good at trade. Like most rich Chinese they blend into the rest of the population, you can never tell the difference until you actually visit her household or office.
China's economic, scientific and technological development is remarkable, especially the high-speed railway which is currently number 1 in the world. Congratulations to the two of you, have a happy and joyful trip to China.
I look forward to every video posted by you guys, i even wish they were longer. Have safe travels. Jack how do you manage to pick up so many languages and remember them?
Thank you very much, longer videos are coming! This video could have been really long but it would be 90% about British tax law haha. I have been trying really hard to study mandarin, other languages I just do whatever I can to learn as much as possible before I go to a country. I really love languages as a personal passion and I often watch language TH-camrs for fun, so I learn phrases through their videos
Great video. I remember back in 2009, I didn't even know about Golden Week. No flights back down from Beijing to Guangzhou - had an onward flight out to Thailand booked - ended up squeezed onto a slow train from Beijing to Guangzhou. 26 hours no seat, barely space to move. Woken up many a time by hot water being spilled as someone squeezed past with cup noodles! Awful at the time, great memory now. Mad to see how much the trains have improved since those days!
Jack has the gut to try everything brand new to him, including a new language. The conversation between Jack and the Chinese lady on the train is very hilarious. The lady was using her broken English to ask Jack about tax evasion in the UK!😂
this is the old Shanghai railway station, it has both the green train and bullet train, there is also hongqiao train station which is much larger, and only has bullet train, there is also Shanghai Southern Station, and in the future, there will be a new train station near pudong airport
Wow incredible....very impressive that you have improved your mandarin by learning through a one month course! keep it up Jack as you seem to have a natural talent in language skill.
Love the video and you 2, your new fan from today. Any plan to visit the southern west of CN? I would suggest Guangxi, where a lot of incredible mountain views you cant imagine.
I never take this kind of train in China before either. In my memory, it’s either the old dark train or bullet train. I guess I didn’t travel enough. Thanks for sharing the new experience with us.
Welcome to Changchun . Changchun has many glorious historical places that were built in 1930s.one of these places was once lived by puyi(溥仪),the last emperor in Qing dynasty.what’s more I recommend the mall named ‘there’s hill’(这有山)which is designed very special and beautiful . And if you are keen on northeastren foods,it is advisable for u to choose changchun city to taste orthodox food, such as chunfahe(春发合)restaurant has wonderful food.Have a good time !
The words you were looking for were probably: Brexit: 英國脱離歐盟 (Britain exiting the EU) or 英國脱歐 or simply 脱歐 (exiting the EU) Visa: 簽證 Not sure if the lady talking about the different laws were talking about Common Law vs Civil Law as in the different legal systems, but: Common Law: 普通法 (used in the US and UK) Civil law: 大陸法 (most European countries) EU law: 歐盟法律 As for your speech, I would say: 之前,如果你要去英國旅遊,你可以順便到法國、德國等其他歐洲國家,但是現在就不能了。因為英國有一半人希望脱離歐盟(/跟歐盟劃清界線),只是我跟我老婆就不同意,不過這就是民主的投票(/民主系統的表現)了。 現在(跨越英國和歐洲大陸)就有點難度了。你可以用一張簽證同時去法國、德國和西班牙,但是若你想到英國的話,就要申請另一張了,以前就不用。 In case you are interested in some grammar: You can't say 之前你可以旅遊英國啊德國啊法國啊,但現在你不可以。 (lit. Before, you can travel (in) UK, Germany, France. But now, you can't.) - In Chinese, the prepositional phrase comes before the verb. This is different than 去法國/到法國, because in this case, it's a verb + object, i.e. a predicate. So, 你可以旅遊,去法國、去德國。Just make sure there are no 2 verbs *directly* used in the same predicate. If you must list the places after because you need time to think of the places, you can instead say: 之前你可以一併到這些地方旅遊,例如英國啊、法國啊、德國啊,都沒有問題。 (Lit. Before, you can, all at once, arrive to these places, travel. e.g. UK, France, Germany. all no problem.) - In case you remembered to use the preposition, you can use (、) a short pause instead of repeating the preposition 在. You can instead use a filler sound 啊 (a) instead, like 你可以在法國啊、德國啊,這些地方旅遊。 - Using 都 as a conjunction to mark contrast between "traveling to these places" and "experiencing no problem before". - Using 就 and 了 to mark "tense". Linguists call this "aspect" as Chinese doesn't modify the verb directly to mark time. 就 marks something as already has happened (comparative to perfect tense), 了 means something is done/ended. 就 is grammatically optional here. It's a bit weird to think this way from English, because we don't use perfect tense in English, we "simply can't now", but in Chinese we often want to compare against "before", so it's more like "You could before but you already can't do the same now." - Chinese sentences can be long, conveying through an entire story (can be more than one complex sentence in English), instead of a simple thought in English. We typically can do more ellipsis in Chinese to omit the subject/object than in English. So an improved sentence would be: 之前你可以到英國、德國、法國旅遊,但現在就不可以了。
Such green hard sleeper train, which leaves in the evening and arrives in the morning, I almost took it every month between 2007 and 2008 from Beijing to Shanghai.
Talk to the stranger is an amazing experience in sleeper train joinery. A long and boring joinery providing an environment to conversation with people you never meet before and probability you will never meet again in your life.
