For some dumb reason, I was really surprised when I found out my cats love pork. But they absolutely do love it.
I believe that many viewers will love this exactly video but for kittens....thanks for everything!
Just to chime in 3 years after transitioning my 2 cats to raw! My buff boy Murphy has been doing well despite eosinophilic granuloma complex and we think he has an allergy to chicken. Gutting, because it’s obviously cheapest and they loved chicken wing tips.
We also tried them on grinds so they could have good sources of bone, but they were all 10% bone which resulted in Murphy being constipated. Can never be straightforward but I’m still grateful his health is on the right track thanks to your videos and pro tips ❤
Concept idea for video series:
You let viewers send in their home made recipes and a picture of it for you to break down, review and provide feedback on, or suggest improvements.
I think this could be really educational, and interesting, seeing others recipes.
Maybe 3 recipes per video. Would be really cool.
I actually do this as a monthly livestream in the paws of prey club :) but I've thought about doing it for a TH-cam video as well!
You are my raw food guru! Love your info. Gosh it’s much easier to raw feed my hungry Labrador (who eats everything!) than my two fussy old cats. Slowly, slowly we’re getting there though.
@@lenageorge1686 persistence and patience is key!
I’ve had your food calculator Google sheet for a while, and I have solidified my recipe!! Thank you :D
I live in the LA suburb area, so everything (even raw meat) is expensive, *but my homemade batch is $3.95/lb!* It’s cheaper than all wet foods (even Fancy Feast!) except for like Friskies and Meow Mix HAHA
*It costs me $2.82/day to feed *two cats** which is crazy in LA!
So thank your Mariah for all your resources!! I don’t really offer a lot of meat variety to my cats, and I do add Vitamin E oil, liquid manganese, nutritional yeast, kelp powder, and eggshell powder to fill in some gaps,
but… fed is best LOL and I’m sure this is still leagues better than wet/dry food :3
Omg I got the exact same green flower dish for my cat from my local Asian market!
lol aw!
This video was awesome!!!!! Thank you so much for looking after our pets with these recipes and by teaching us so much about their nutrition 💕
I've been able to get hold of some better and more exciting organ meat and meaty bones through a big butcher store, so I'm really excited for my cats food atm.
I love your videos so much 😊
Ah it's always so exciting to find new parts :)
And thank you so much!
Do you not have raw pet food shops where you're from? Where I am there's loads. You can even buy whole mice for cats
@@anonperson3972 not where I live no, you have to home make it or order online which is really expensive.😅
I can't even find any raw freeze dried online it's like a myth over here 😓
@keziha5315 That sucks! Where do you live? (Country, not address lol) I'm in the UK and about 25% of dog owners feed raw, so there's loads of options. Pretty cheap too because most of them use up the scraps from meat processing
@@anonperson3972 funnily enough I also like in the uk but in the rural countryside of wales, unfortunately I think theirs like one local pet shop still open in my area (within an hour radius of where I live) and they don't do raw food, the pets at home in the closest little city doesn't offer raw food either, this past month The tesco in the city just started stocking the pet fridge with a small selection of fresh food (not raw just fresh) but it's full of rice and veg so yeah progress but still dire. Theirs actually only like 2 brands of raw that deliver to me out in the middle of nowhere and the shipping alone its just too expensive ^^;
Just moved my 9 weeks old kitten on raw food, and i noticed the difference from the first day. More energetic and her sleep more relaxed. Is just i don't know how much i should feed her. She is always hungry.
Great job feeding your kitten a proper raw diet! Yes, the positive effects are immediate. And never let an ignorant vet make you stop. Let your kitten eat as much as needed. I've been feeding raw for almost 30 years, have never worried about portions, and not one of my beloved cats ever became overweight. Raw creates lean muscle machines! Tip for owners of overweight cats: stop feeding kibble, transition to raw, and watch the fat melt away!
Currently working on transitioning our three cats to a commercial ground PMR from canned wet. Started with 4 proteins (the full grind has all the organs/muscles/bones required) for variety to cover the nutriant bases. They've taken to Chicken and Turkey easily. The Beef and Herring is apparently yucky and they are being stubborn little goobers about. Thankfully there are several other options to choose from if they just won't switch. . .though I really want beef in their diet so they'd have at least ONE red meat and not all lean. We're working on it.
How about doing a starter recipe that doesn't have any chicken? Or perhaps doing a 1 protein compley recipe. It would be VERY VERY helpful for the kitties that have food allergies. Your doing a great job in informing many people that are alittle scared to start raw or lightly cooked food. ❤❤❤
@@susanbedard2295 it's hard because for these "beginner" videos, I'm trying to think about proteins and parts that are easy to find, but unfortunately those proteins are ones that many pets have intolerances with. In the Paws of Prey Club, I do have many single protein recipes though :)
You can use the ratios to create a recipe. I’m a beginner and on my first month of feeding my cat a homemade diet. I find sticking to the ratios is easier than using a recipe where you may or may not be able to source the ingredients.
What makes you think your cat is allergic to chicken? If your cat is eating Kibble or canned. You have no idea what your cats are really allergic to. The tests are inaccurate anyway, and they’re absolutely worthless when your cat is eating kibble or canned. there is zero resemblance between chicken, flavored cat food and raw chicken. And chicken is getting to be the scapegoat for every issue. Any animal has ever had lately. It’s just one of the new trans and Raw feeding I’ve noticed. I’ve been feeding Raw for over 20 years. This has included chicken. neither I or any of my friends have had an animal that was allergic to chicken. So please don’t be afraid of it. if you’re worried about it, start out with something else like turkey or beef or pork or Cornish game, hen, etc. but I bet once your cats system is used to raw and has detox from all the crap it was eating before raw. it will be able to eat chicken chest fine. if you do have that one in 1 million cat that actually is intolerant of chicken then it’s still not a big deal. Because they can probably eat just about everything else. So please don’t be afraid of chicken.
Love your videos! Learn so much ❤.
My local butcher carries quail, which is also great for bones for cats, my boy loved them ❤
@@faithcrisis2138 oh absolutely! Luckyyy

Girl I love you so much! I got my dog transitioned thanks to you, and he just had a tail amputation at almost 13 years old, biggggg doggy, and was healthier than he was 2 years ago when they did his blood work before surgery, and took the surgery like a champ! He's recovering so well, too. Now I gotta work on getting my kitties transitioned, but they're pretty attached to their kibble so I know they'll be a challenge. But seeing the way my dog is thriving has me dedicated af.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!! You're an angel ❤
Aww, well I'm incredibly happy to hear that, and also glad to hear he's recovering well!
Can you recommend an easy/minimalist base grind recipe that could be the foundation for a multi-carnivore home - then an explanation for what to add to the base grind to make it a complete cat meal vs a dog meal vs a ferret meal etc.? I would greatly appreciate a reply here or a future video with a side by side dog/cat/ferret prep based off the same foundation grind.
Thanks for simplifying this!
Just a small clarification at 6:42 where you give an example of batch cooking. Wouldn’t two weeks worth of chicken hearts be 11.2 oz rather than only 1.6 oz? What am I missing? (I tend to use metric but that shouldn’t alter the basic calculation.)
@@lenageorge1686 lol, yes you're right! Not sure what I did there 🫣 at least you get it how to figure it out regardless of my error
@@PawsofPreyjust a small typo. If you change “weeks” to “days” in the text, all is perfect again. Nonetheless still a fantastic video. Thanks for converting everything to grams.
@@lenageorge1686 of course!
Ok. Times 6. What about litter? I am still using fresh step. It's the only that works. We love our babies!
If an adult cat does well with 6 to 8% bone and you included 8% bone from the Cornish hen wing, why are you adding an additional 600mg of eggshell powder? Thanks
If I were to use this recipe, I’d just have to add a bit more than half! My biggest cat is 16 lbs, and no he’s not fat! Just a big boy
Hi! Why did you use just the yolk and not the egg white?
Just because it's less calories, and the white isn't necessary to provide essential nutrients. It's also sometimes off-putting for the cat, and can sometimes cause the stool to be loose.
Could I substitute blue mussels for black mussels? Thank you for the video, it's very helpful ❤
Yep! They are basically the same thing
@PawsofPrey oh awesome!! Thank you!!
Thanks this is super helpful! I love how detailed it is. Do you feed it just like that or do you mix it all up and grind it? What do cats usually prefer? One of my cats loves to eat cooked chicken hearts and raw wing tips but the others aren't so thrilled about those. Is it ok to crush some dry food on top initially to help them transition? They're currently fully on wet food.
Love your video, I find them very educational. Can you do a fish menu?
Ahh, fish gets hard. It's actually not very healthy to feed an all fish diet as they are low in many nutrients, high in certain others that could cause a nutrient over-dose or urinary issues, and can also be high in certain harmful things like heavy metals or thiaminase (an enzyme that prevents the B vitamin thiamin from being absorbed).
Hey thank u for the video is very helpful if I choose to feed ground beef how can compensate vitamin D and B1 ?
Does it have to be Cornish hen?
Hi , is whitefish good protein for cats
Would you consider reviewing raw meals to assess them so for people who may be doing diy they could get idea/gauge how they are prepping.
I actually do this monthly in the Paws of Prey Club! But it would be helpful to others to do a TH-cam video on it as well.
This is a really great video. My two kitties lose their little minds over pork and demand I feed it to them most days 😂 I was so worried it was bad for them 😅
Haha aw, that's great they love it, it's such a good protein!
What about Taurine in their diet? Is it in that raw diet?
It's a perfect video.❤
Is the egg yolk also only once a week?
I was wondering the same thing. All these years I knew that raw egg should be fed once a week. In her video looks like she suggests to feed every day. We need a clarification please...
Which of the items have the taurine that I understand cats need?
Hi, is the iodine sufficient in this recipe? Do we need to add some iodine or salt thanks? Also is this a daily meal? Thanks heaps
She said the iodine is covered by the mussels! However, a little bit of kelp powder helps meet iodine requirements if you can’t get mussels!
Thank you very much for your videos ! I really learn many things from your informations.
By the way, would you tell me/us how you cut the meaty bone into such small pieces neatly? What do you use for this?
I sometimes try to smash the bone before cutting and it takes time and energy pretty much ... If you have something good ideas, please let us know your wisdoms:). thanks !!!
Do you have a video to show up to cut up that cornish hen wing? I cannot seem to figure out where you made your cuts looking at it whole compared to cut up pieces. We are so afraid of her choking and creating sharp bone pieces by cutting in the wrong spot. Thank you!
What about salmon oil? Do they need it?
some of us can't even afford to buy eggs to eat and y'all feeding cats like kings 😭
It's consequence of having a pet.
A king?? Idk where u live is but those ingredients is like the most common and cheapest kind of meat that at least me could find even in a traditional market
In some cases it's cheaper to feed your cat like this if it helps you avoid vet bills. You can also use food stamps on the food while you can't with commercial foods.
@@logically-pastel1795 That probably worked 10 years ago 🤷🏽♀️
@@gingerlemon865 I literally do it with my cats now. Though it depends on what they give you.
Is it safe to feed this amount of mussels quite regularly?
So basically I can copy this recipe and feed it for 2 weeks and then change up only the pork, heart and kidney for something else from their category or only change one of the things like the pork and feed it again for 2 weeks? My 2 cats have been eating only wet food and for about 2 years one of their meals is raw chicken or pork with heart and liver sometimes. But I'm always scared to go full raw cause 'what if they don't get enough vitamins and minerals or the phos will be too high'. And in my country there are only a handful of nutritionists and they go by the 84/6/5/5 ratio. So I'm always afraid to go beyond those percentages. But I think I will finally try this recipe, it's really easy to follow along and understand. Thanks!
@@1starrynight1 yes, I encourage you to feed a variety! Though some nutrients may be low with certain parts/proteins, as long as you feed a variety, nutrients will be provided over time
@@PawsofPrey Thank you!!!
Excellent video. My cats still won't eat raw chicken. I boil chicken thighs. They love raw ground beef. Finding raw meaty bones and a second secreting organ is proving difficult. I found a reptile shop near me. I am thinking of switching to whole prey. Frozen. I don't need live mice running around my house! LOL Happy Feline Friday!
@@edschulhof6303 whole prey would be ideal! But can get expensive. That's great they like beef though! If you can't feed any small meaty bones, there's always high quality bone meal
@@PawsofPrey Thank you.
How do you cut chicken wings like that ? Today I grind it with my KitchenAid grinder but would like give chunks to my 2 guys sometimes also
Hi! What do you think of the freeze dried version of these meats? Or what if I cook these meats except the chicken? Thoughts?
You can cook this recipe, but you'd have to feed the meaty bone raw, or replace it with bone meal or eggshell powder!
Why do you need to add calcium powder instead of adding more meaty bone? What do you mesn by balancing calcium n phosphorus?
Is sushi nori seaweed organic wraps ground up and shaken in food ok? I web searched it and it's high in mercury it says but most seaweed is, it says. Can I substitute with spirulina? How many chicken wings, for kittens 6 and 7 mths old ?
Can green tripe replace the blue mussels, or would it be lacking in something?
Yes, it can! But you'd need to feed a bit more than what you'd need to feed in mussel
❤
My cats wont eat raw . What can I do about this. Ive tried for years. Is there a goos cooked recipe that raw can be added to?
I have one cat that’s 10lbs and one thats 7.6lbs. How would I prep like a months worth of food at once in this case, with the cats being different weights?
Currently, I make a big batch of raw that lasts them about a month that includes grinding bone, liver, and heart, chunked muscle meat, egg yolks, water, and some supplements like morton lite salt, vitamin E, taurine, fish oil, and vitamin b. It all gets mixed up and put into meal prep containers and frozen. Each cat gets the food about 3% of their body weight per day, so the smaller cat has smaller meals but they’re both eating the same batch of food. I follow a recipe and would love to go even more whole food based and less supplements but not really sure how, it’s also really hard to source certain things!
Hello, I love your channel it is so helpful!! Would you be able to do a recipe for kittens. I currently have a 6month Maine coon mix and have read many different thing for the percentage for kittens I just changed his diet to 50% muscle meat 20% muscular organ 5%liver 8% other secreting organ 17% raw meaty bone and I add an extra 5% salmon. I’d love to hear your opinions on it thank you!
I love your videos ❤️, just wanted to ask is it okay to feed 100 gram cooked chicken thighs for an 8 year cat or does it contain too much protein?
Well you'd have to pair it with bone, organ, and other whole foods! You'd also have to make sure you're not feeding too much food a day.
Hi , when batching for example 2 weeks, must you mix all in one pot and then ration out per meal?
Do you need to freeze after doing so?
My cats won’t eat chicken tips or necks. So I buy ground rabbit with the bone in and give that 3 days a week. is that enough ? As well as egg shell topper on the food daily.
My cat only eats caviar. You should try that.
Any tips on how to transition an adult cat from dry to raw food?
I talk about this in my transition video!
Can I substitute mussels to sardines?
for omega-3's yes, for manganese, no unfortunately not. But that's ok, maybe in another recipe you can provide green tripe, or you could just use a manganese supplement if you can't feed mussels or green tripe at all.
Question for you, i have a 15 year old cat thst is looseing alot of weight due to bad and missing teeth, do you think i could Patte this recipe and get aa similar effect on the nutricnal value?
are any of your raw feeders getting the feeling you have to take your cat to the vet more often? im just worried i start raw feeding and i will need to be a frequent client at the clinic
Blue mussels? Not green or Mediterranean?
Great video as always!
For egg yolks, I'm using nutritional data from the USDA food database, where I can see that there is no data on iodine content, as I think this is usually negligent in human food. I know you often use Kelp for iodine, but would 1 egg yolk be enough for iodine? I feed my cat 1 egg yolk every 2 days, and also supplement with kelp powder. Now I am a bit worried I've been overdosing on iodine
It's so unfortunate the iodine content isn't analyzed in most food, because it's certainly there! Especially in egg. I have found a few studies showing iodine content in egg. In this recipe, the egg, mussel, and organ meat provide quite a bit. You can add a small amount of kelp, but I would only add the smallest amount! I follow NRC guidelines, and for adult cats specifically, their iodine suggestion has been found to be too high, so I always err on the side of caution and give a bit less than what's suggested.
Hello, I love this video. I have a few questions. My girl is 3 years old and 13lb. How do I adapt the recipe? Can I switch the blue mussel for sardines? And the chicken hearts for gizzards? And the wings for chicken necks (Im asking because I can't find them. I went to 3 different stores)
OK, I think I had a brain fart 😭😹 the recipe for 10lb left, so for my 13lb right
2oz pork / 2.6oz?
1oz chicken hearts / 1.3oz?
0.7oz Cornish hen wings / 0.91oz?
0.1oz liver/ 0.13oz?
0.3oz kidney /0.39oz?
0.4oz Blue mussel / 0.52oz?
To change the recipe you can just adjust the amounts. The mussels are used for manganese so they can’t be swapped out for sardines. I use green tripe instead mussels for manganese. The chicken heart is there for taurine. DCM has been linked to low taurine so unless you are supplementing for taurine the heart needs to be there. Chicken neck is for raw meaty bones so they can be swapped out for chicken wings but if you have a natural pet food store or an ethnic store they may have chicken necks.
Hi, how do we calculate the vit E for an adult cats who weighs 7.5 kg, with the same vit E. Would it be the same as once a week or half capsule daily?? Thanks
My cat won’t touch liver or kidney. What do I do to substitute?
It's messy. Kitty will take the large pieces out of the dish and carry them to other places, leaving bone tips and raw meat juices on your floor. If you dice it and cook it, it will preserve longer and kitty will keep it in the dish.
Hi, you used to add iodine powder in previous posts but now there's none? Does this cover the iodine requirements daily for cats
Yes, the egg, organ, and mussel provide enough iodine for this meal
Thanks 😊
My cat is so picky that If i serve her that it will just eat the stuff it likes and then leave the rest
my kitty never wants to eat the bones, so I got bone meal powder, but I am not sure how much to put, and what do I replace the bone with? More muscle meat? She is 11.5 pounds

(10% for kittens that age, 2-3% for adults) This is an adult recipe, but if you want to follow it, just be sure to increase the bone a little (up to 10%) and also consider getting spleen as the second secreting organ to provide more iron
Yes I have already prepared for her unfortunately my dad couldn't find spleen so I've made it with kidney and I'm gonna make another batch with spleen and give both to her alternating. Why not just use enough raw meaty bones to meat the calcium requirement vs adding egg shells? Is this because cats cannot handle eating as much bone?
@@mamabear9389 correct! And a good question. Kitties seem to get constipated at +10% bone. If your cat does fine on it, go for it! If not, eggshell powder can help with the Ca:P while keeping the stool where it needs to be. If it's still too firm on the eggshell powder, I would personally just trust the amount of bone I'm feeding is right for my individual cat, along with that Ca:P
