Some people say the store is gone, some say it isn't, some say it's there but only if you have an old account, some say it only works in Europe... I really want to know exactly what the deal is!

What people always forget critizizing the controller: the whole system was 99$. What did they expect? As you can see here, you can use 3rd party controllers without problems.

The Kickstarter goal was a massive success and she and her team wasted almost all of the money on themselves and asked for more money. This console had potential in the casual market. Mobile games and Minecraft are very popular. The team behind this console ruined any chance of success

So fun fact. The coders of the Ouyaverse got together and modded the server file of Ouya to connect to a community server with almost all the games Ouya offered in the same store layout and interfaces. It is legit a 128 byte file you put on the main folder of the internal storage. Amazing.

@@Bro-cx2jc i think so, its a super simple text file you can use and make yourself. its just a url, then drop it into your Ouya main folder. But ya, havent used my ouya in a bit but a little while ago i tested it and it still worked. Fast and free. Fun little fact but before the file I still used Ouya normally for a long time, then I got the dreaded popup, that I cant remember but googled to find out it had trouble connecting to the servers, cause they turned off and my ouya was assuming wifi was off or something, that took years to happen, and the fix was simple and made tge games free too so extended the Ouya life too. I dont think much is left for my method in current day. I google some and there was a vid in 2014 that talk about SuperUser installing. But idk, i just found a we site blog, that told me to make a text, with a url pointer and resnart the system, but honestly dont recall then maybe me finding the tvt i made and copy that. Idk. I hoped ouya world wouls still have the solution.
I was an early backer of the kickstarter for the ouya. At the time I was in school for computer science and one of my emphasis was in game development. The ouya gave me the opportunity to develop and deploy games to a console like device and it was a great learning experience. This was probably the consoles biggest positive that I feel gets overlooked. As a new developer there was a great lack of tools to learn on and break into the field. The ouya sought to fill that need and I feel that it did. I had a great time playing games like tower fall as well as trying out many of the game demos. It reminded me of the early days of magazine game demo discs. I never experienced any of the issue people talk about and still to this day use it for game streaming to my tv via moonlight and emulators. Which cant be said about much of my other early release tech. (Looking at you Oculus Rift DK1 sitting next to my CV1 and Pimax 5k+) Overall the ouya was a good experience and was a good prototype for an android based tv experience. There is much hate/debate but for many the console was a great success because it fit their needs.
I have one too and I enjoy some of the games, even Ouyacraft, which is just a cheap version of Minecraft. The cool thing about all the games is that they can be played on almost any android device if you pull their files from Discover. And the Ouya can play other android games too (although when you try things like Baldi's Basics it kinda suffers a bit lol)

I made a few games for it, which for me was what set it apart from other consoles; it was relatively easy to make a game for it as a hobbyist and see your game in the 'store' being played by people. Sadly after a while the negative sounds became louder and you could feel that the system was not really supported by the company behind it anymore, even though fans still held on for a while.
@@weasoneofficial2899 The scary part is, the quality of their controllers actually improved a lot between the PS2 and 360 generations. Some of the MC controllers I had for the PS2 and earlier generation machines started having stick drifting within a week.
I pre-ordered one but immediately canceled it the moment I realized I could but a 3DS with a few games (Kingdom Hearts 3D, Resident Evil Revelations, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate) and a circle pad pro and also order a R4i Gold cart with a 8gb micro SD.
I loved my Ouya! It was the perfect couch-multiplayer console, even though they could have made it a bit more powerful (I wouldn't have minded paying more), before the Switch took that crown nearly 2 years ago. Also, when the Ouya first released, every game on the store was required to have a free demo available, but since many devs didn't want to code a demo for this console and it limited the amount of games available on the console, they lifted the requirement after a while. Looking at your controller, it seems to still have the original right faceplate. They released a free faceplate replacement that you could request on their website with larger holes for the 4 face buttons. So don't be surprised if they sometimes get stuck under the faceplate when you press them.
Maybe they could have released an upgrade version that did all the same stuff but had better specs. So that on the original, while it could access all the content, it wasn't powerful enough to run the higher powered games and apps, and the upgraded one could. So budget users could still stick to the cheaper one if they didn't mind sticking to the simpler games. GPD did this, and while their console didn't exactly take off like mad, it worked out okay for a while. However, GPD doesn't have a native storefront, so there are probably better things to compare with.
@alex ojideagu I possess a stadia account. As far as I can tell, the system right now has some limitations, but I see its potentiality. I think it would be better to judge next year, since right now it's a beta of the actual service.

She said they could because the PS4 wasn't released at the time of the interview. The Ouya released in June 2013 and PS4 released in November 2013. Julie wasn't a great executive, but her phrasing was purposefully highlighting that she was holding a production piece with the touchpad at a time that the press hadn't touched a PS4 production controller.
@@EvilLucario The Wii U gamepad had a resistive touch screen. The Ouya controller has a capacitive touch pad. It is actually a pretty expensive and unnecessary addition to the controller. You can get an aftermarket upgrade for the Wii U gamepad to make it a capacitive touch screen. Either way the touchpad was expensive and pointless. It was meant to facilitate easy ports for mobile teams, but they never used it and it doesn't work for most sideload titles.
The OUYA was not as bad as people say. Okay the store was crap an most games were shit but a rooted OUYA with CyanogenMod was an awesome Kodi and emulator box.
The problem was that this crap was announced as a gaming machine, if it were made to compete with the Apple TV + being able to play some games, maybe it wouldn't have flopped that badly
I always argue this! People always shit on it but if you paired it with a ps3 controller It was actually a very decent streaming and emulation box. I used mine for a while exclusively for emulation until I bought a raspberry pi 3
Todays' tech media loves to troll past tech failures. It wasn't nearly as bad as they make it out to be. Who hasn't played a mobile game and wished you could play it with a controller? The Ouya was suppose to be that solution. It failed from a CEO who was not familiar with gaming and a lack of focus.
I had an Ouya since just after it's retail launch. The Dual Triggers work differently. The TOP Triggers are Digital, and the BOTTOM Triggers are variable input like an old Analog input. It allows you to apply (for example) partial throttle or brake in a racing game for example. The particular one I got was one that had the updated controller that had it's fit and finish improved over the original Kickstarter ones. It works perfectly fine, with no issues. I use 2,600 mAH NiMH AA's in my controller instead of Alkaline Batteries (I don't want to have a Alkaline Battery leak and ruin my only controller). I didn't pay for it on Kickstarter. Instead I bought mine at Best Buy a couple of months after it released (when I knew that the controller issue had been corrected).
I love the idea of putting the batteries in the handles. One of the big causes of wrist strain from gaming is the weight on your wrists. Moving the batteries down to the handles moves the center of mass to a more comfortable position.
Yeah I don't know what the issue with that is at all, but people complain about it for some reason. Who cares where the batteries go? Do they power the controller on properly? Are they tightly held in place? Good, move on.
Why in the world do companies still make controllers that require disposable batteries? We have had rechargeable controllers for nearly two decades! Yes Microsoft, I am talking to you!
@@mojoofftherobo My controllers normally start malfunctioning before the batteries die out most of the time. I recently replaced my dualshock4 because the left joystick wasn't working correctly after 4 years of use but I never had problems with the batteries.
somebody got an Ouya for xmas and when they opened the gift said "Oooouyyyaaa" (soulja boy voice) and didn't even open it and made thier mom return it. Now spawn wave has it.
I bought the Ouya controllers without the console, someone sold them cheap and I needed a bluetooth gamepad for my android box at the time so went for them. I think I still have one upstairs. Actually like the Ouya controller for use with android games. I didn't get an Ouya console as I'm quite happy to build up my android google library of games knowing I can use them on future android hardware but don't want to buy any games where the company could disappear. My xbox and playstation library is mainly physical games and my digital games are mainly google and steam. I do have a gamestick but the stick has been converted to normal android not playjam.
The last thing we heard about it(from dreamcast guy). There is a lawsuit over rights and profit earnings(or something). Yeah, I can tell that this 2019 release date isn't probably happening.
Mateus Elias, yesterday, they had a short update on the indiegogo page. The last thing they have been working on was the linux based operating system. I believe that the next thing would be releasing tools to prepare x86 Linux distros to run as an “other OS” on the atari VCS, and publishing preview versions of their OS for developers. They still seem to be believing it in 2019. They already shipped some T-Shirt to backers who ordered them. As far as I read, pre-orders are still possible.
I backed this on Kickstarter within the first few days, but I dropped out before the campaign ended. After watching some interviews with Julie, and seeing nothing really tangible, I felt like this was DOA or vaporware. So glad I did.
I honestly thought it was a great idea. I liked the idea of a micro console that was cheap for the Casual Gamer. I got one and I thought the controller felt pretty good and played pretty well for a good while but then a lot of games started dropping from it and there wasn't as much fun stuff to play.
The OUYA wasn't a bad console...for a short while. There were a few issues. Half the players only wanted it for emulation and didn't care for it as a viable platform. Secondly, there was a lack of direction when it came to the console's features and it's future. Lastly, the hardware came out during a time of fast transition. Sure the tech was fine when it first arrived but it was quickly surpassed by other rivals in the same space. Personally, the OUYA was my TellTale console. I had the Walking Dead seasons one and two, Game of Thrones, Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands all playing on the system. Additionally, I had Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 running for my shooting and racing needs. Everything was great until Android games got to a point where they simply needed beefier hardware, quickly making the OUYA useless. In the end, I'll pay my respects to a console that could have been so much better. "F"
The best thing about the Ouya, was the game "Amazing Frog" It started on Ouya and my daughter and I played that for hours. They've since re-programmed it for Windows and it's developed for steam. A lot of indie game developers cut their teeth on the Ouya store in it's short period. You can still use the console to check and play your games you develop using free software.
Thank you for talking about this console. The Ouya is the reason why I skipped the Wii U entirely. Like you said it's a predecessor to the Shield TV and therefore the Switch (same hardware) but it's much more than that. A game like Celeste wouldn't exist without the success of Towerfall which was funded by Ouya Inc. Matt Thorson should have at least mentioned Ouya Inc when he won that award.
Yes. It failed, but it was a cheap console, and a good idea. I wish youtubers would have their own original ideas instead of just repeating reddit comments from five years ago.
Despite popular opinion, I actually enjoyed my ouya. Never had any connection issues with the controller but did have issues with the buttons sticking. The user interface was simple to understand and it was incredibly easy to sideload apk's. Only stopped using it because it was no longer supported.

I found the OUYA with no controller or power cord at Goodwill for $12. Luckily I had an extra 12V adapter that got a power supply to it. I don't have a controller that I can use with it yet, however I have seen a PS3 controller that will work I just need to find one for cheap. What I'd like is to jailbreak it, put KODI/XMBC on it or at least put something like RetroPie and play 8 bit games on it. I'm not a huge gamer, so if I can do that every once in a while, it will be worth it.
Used mine for years ! Almost every days running xbmc. I spent so many time on bombsquad. I've fried my first and bought 2 other ouya. I recently put stock Android on one of them, but I might reinstall the stock ouya rom soon.
I own all the Ouya variants. I love the Ouya it is my first full collection. I wish we had something like the Ouya I would buy games all the time their just to find the game on steam with less reviews sometimes not even enough to have a positive or negative rating. It was a good games platform if you looked but I can tell not many people put in the effort most Ouya I bought still have the plastic on them😂
The Ouya was pretty cool. As much as people gripe about the controller (I was original backer and never had controller issues), the biggest reason it failed was people wanted Ouya to use the next generation Tegra for more powerful 3D games, but they would not.
One thing that's often overlooked about OUYA is the impact it had on Android gaming going forward. The Shield TV would have had a lot harder of a time if the OUYA hadn't come before it, because OUYA singlehandedly convinced tons of developers to include gamepad support in their Android titles. Sadly, the OUYA controller didn't map its face buttons in the same order as other controllers, so picking up gamepad-compatible Android games that weren't specifically designed for OUYA can occasionally be awkward and OUYA-designed games released on Google Play sometimes have strange button mappings. (This is much less common in my experience, though, because the bright side of the OUYA controller being so terrible is that people used third-party controllers with it so games just stuck with the more common button mappings.) I got an OUYA for free from a coworker. I enjoyed it for a while, but I discovered a design flaw with the power supply... It's got an identical barrel connector to the NES's, but the NES outputs 9V AC while the OUYA needs 12V DC. Plugged it into the wrong cord one... fried the poor thing. Alternating current kills, folks.
As an owner of ouya for 5 plus years, I just have to say good luck with yours! Mine bricked itself about 2 years ago and I got so fed up with it I trashed it. They are very cheaply made and yours will break overtime guaranteed, and there are no places that repair these things. Not sure if it’s even possible to play an ouya at this point cus it’s an online based system. Before you can even play it it’s mandatory that one you have an online connection and two you have a credit card, you must enter credit card info as well it won’t let you on without it. If the ouya network/store is no longer functioning then yer not playing ouya. It’s really to bad, cuts in the time I had my ouya I really nioyed it, it’s excellent for emulation and very easy to navigate, they also had some pretty cool exclusives like double dragon trilogy remastered and ff3!reworked to 3d etc etc. I think with a little more care the ouya could’ve really been something, but all of it’s flaws just really make it a shit system. Your best bet is going with a nvidia shield, fuck this thing trust me
I got an Ouya when it released. I absolutely loved it. The thing about the controllers is that it wasn't actually a design problem, it was just that many of the first run controllers had problems because they were cheaply made. People don't usually realize it, but getting quality products from China is really hard; you need really good connections from people who know how to work with the companies there. Otherwise the manufacturers WILL cut corners any way they can to save/make more money. Manufacturing is a business just like any other. If you got one of the controllers that were made later, they are a MUCH better quality. The only design I really wanted from the controllers was to have start and select buttons. The ergonomics weren't as good as the xbox 360 or xbox one, but they were still better than the Playstation controller that Sony used for twenty years.

So fun fact. The coders of the Ouyaverse got together and modded the server file of Ouya to connect to a community server with almost all the games Ouya offered in the same store layout and interfaces. It is legit a 128 byte file you put on the main folder of the internal storage. Amazing.

@@Bro-cx2jc i think so, its a super simple text file you can use and make yourself. its just a url, then drop it into your Ouya main folder. But ya, havent used my ouya in a bit but a little while ago i tested it and it still worked. Fast and free.
Fun little fact but before the file I still used Ouya normally for a long time, then I got the dreaded popup, that I cant remember but googled to find out it had trouble connecting to the servers, cause they turned off and my ouya was assuming wifi was off or something, that took years to happen, and the fix was simple and made tge games free too so extended the Ouya life too.
I dont think much is left for my method in current day. I google some and there was a vid in 2014 that talk about SuperUser installing. But idk, i just found a we site blog, that told me to make a text, with a url pointer and resnart the system, but honestly dont recall then maybe me finding the tvt i made and copy that. Idk. I hoped ouya world wouls still have the solution.
I was an early backer of the kickstarter for the ouya. At the time I was in school for computer science and one of my emphasis was in game development. The ouya gave me the opportunity to develop and deploy games to a console like device and it was a great learning experience. This was probably the consoles biggest positive that I feel gets overlooked. As a new developer there was a great lack of tools to learn on and break into the field. The ouya sought to fill that need and I feel that it did.
I had a great time playing games like tower fall as well as trying out many of the game demos. It reminded me of the early days of magazine game demo discs.
I never experienced any of the issue people talk about and still to this day use it for game streaming to my tv via moonlight and emulators. Which cant be said about much of my other early release tech. (Looking at you Oculus Rift DK1 sitting next to my CV1 and Pimax 5k+)
Overall the ouya was a good experience and was a good prototype for an android based tv experience.
There is much hate/debate but for many the console was a great success because it fit their needs.
I have one too and I enjoy some of the games, even Ouyacraft, which is just a cheap version of Minecraft.
The cool thing about all the games is that they can be played on almost any android device if you pull their files from Discover.
And the Ouya can play other android games too (although when you try things like Baldi's Basics it kinda suffers a bit lol)

I made a few games for it, which for me was what set it apart from other consoles; it was relatively easy to make a game for it as a hobbyist and see your game in the 'store' being played by people. Sadly after a while the negative sounds became louder and you could feel that the system was not really supported by the company behind it anymore, even though fans still held on for a while.

@@weasoneofficial2899 The scary part is, the quality of their controllers actually improved a lot between the PS2 and 360 generations. Some of the MC controllers I had for the PS2 and earlier generation machines started having stick drifting within a week.

I loved my Ouya! It was the perfect couch-multiplayer console, even though they could have made it a bit more powerful (I wouldn't have minded paying more), before the Switch took that crown nearly 2 years ago.
Also, when the Ouya first released, every game on the store was required to have a free demo available, but since many devs didn't want to code a demo for this console and it limited the amount of games available on the console, they lifted the requirement after a while.
Looking at your controller, it seems to still have the original right faceplate. They released a free faceplate replacement that you could request on their website with larger holes for the 4 face buttons. So don't be surprised if they sometimes get stuck under the faceplate when you press them.
Maybe they could have released an upgrade version that did all the same stuff but had better specs. So that on the original, while it could access all the content, it wasn't powerful enough to run the higher powered games and apps, and the upgraded one could. So budget users could still stick to the cheaper one if they didn't mind sticking to the simpler games.
GPD did this, and while their console didn't exactly take off like mad, it worked out okay for a while.
However, GPD doesn't have a native storefront, so there are probably better things to compare with.

She said they could because the PS4 wasn't released at the time of the interview. The Ouya released in June 2013 and PS4 released in November 2013. Julie wasn't a great executive, but her phrasing was purposefully highlighting that she was holding a production piece with the touchpad at a time that the press hadn't touched a PS4 production controller.
Even then though, the Wii U GamePad was a thing.
@@EvilLucario The Wii U gamepad had a resistive touch screen. The Ouya controller has a capacitive touch pad. It is actually a pretty expensive and unnecessary addition to the controller. You can get an aftermarket upgrade for the Wii U gamepad to make it a capacitive touch screen. Either way the touchpad was expensive and pointless. It was meant to facilitate easy ports for mobile teams, but they never used it and it doesn't work for most sideload titles.

The OUYA was not as bad as people say. Okay the store was crap an most games were shit but a rooted OUYA with CyanogenMod was an awesome Kodi and emulator box.

Todays' tech media loves to troll past tech failures. It wasn't nearly as bad as they make it out to be. Who hasn't played a mobile game and wished you could play it with a controller? The Ouya was suppose to be that solution. It failed from a CEO who was not familiar with gaming and a lack of focus.
I had an Ouya since just after it's retail launch. The Dual Triggers work differently. The TOP Triggers are Digital, and the BOTTOM Triggers are variable input like an old Analog input. It allows you to apply (for example) partial throttle or brake in a racing game for example. The particular one I got was one that had the updated controller that had it's fit and finish improved over the original Kickstarter ones. It works perfectly fine, with no issues. I use 2,600 mAH NiMH AA's in my controller instead of Alkaline Batteries (I don't want to have a Alkaline Battery leak and ruin my only controller). I didn't pay for it on Kickstarter. Instead I bought mine at Best Buy a couple of months after it released (when I knew that the controller issue had been corrected).

I love the idea of putting the batteries in the handles. One of the big causes of wrist strain from gaming is the weight on your wrists. Moving the batteries down to the handles moves the center of mass to a more comfortable position.
Yeah I don't know what the issue with that is at all, but people complain about it for some reason. Who cares where the batteries go? Do they power the controller on properly? Are they tightly held in place? Good, move on.
Why in the world do companies still make controllers that require disposable batteries? We have had rechargeable controllers for nearly two decades! Yes Microsoft, I am talking to you!

I recently replaced my dualshock4 because the left joystick wasn't working correctly after 4 years of use but I never had problems with the batteries.

I bought the Ouya controllers without the console, someone sold them cheap and I needed a bluetooth gamepad for my android box at the time so went for them. I think I still have one upstairs. Actually like the Ouya controller for use with android games. I didn't get an Ouya console as I'm quite happy to build up my android google library of games knowing I can use them on future android hardware but don't want to buy any games where the company could disappear. My xbox and playstation library is mainly physical games and my digital games are mainly google and steam. I do have a gamestick but the stick has been converted to normal android not playjam.

Mateus Elias, yesterday, they had a short update on the indiegogo page. The last thing they have been working on was the linux based operating system. I believe that the next thing would be releasing tools to prepare x86 Linux distros to run as an “other OS” on the atari VCS, and publishing preview versions of their OS for developers. They still seem to be believing it in 2019. They already shipped some T-Shirt to backers who ordered them. As far as I read, pre-orders are still possible.

I backed this on Kickstarter within the first few days, but I dropped out before the campaign ended. After watching some interviews with Julie, and seeing nothing really tangible, I felt like this was DOA or vaporware. So glad I did.
I honestly thought it was a great idea. I liked the idea of a micro console that was cheap for the Casual Gamer. I got one and I thought the controller felt pretty good and played pretty well for a good while but then a lot of games started dropping from it and there wasn't as much fun stuff to play.

The OUYA wasn't a bad console...for a short while. There were a few issues. Half the players only wanted it for emulation and didn't care for it as a viable platform. Secondly, there was a lack of direction when it came to the console's features and it's future. Lastly, the hardware came out during a time of fast transition. Sure the tech was fine when it first arrived but it was quickly surpassed by other rivals in the same space. Personally, the OUYA was my TellTale console. I had the Walking Dead seasons one and two, Game of Thrones, Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands all playing on the system. Additionally, I had Asphalt 8 and Modern Combat 5 running for my shooting and racing needs. Everything was great until Android games got to a point where they simply needed beefier hardware, quickly making the OUYA useless. In the end, I'll pay my respects to a console that could have been so much better. "F"

The best thing about the Ouya, was the game "Amazing Frog" It started on Ouya and my daughter and I played that for hours. They've since re-programmed it for Windows and it's developed for steam. A lot of indie game developers cut their teeth on the Ouya store in it's short period. You can still use the console to check and play your games you develop using free software.
Thank you for talking about this console. The Ouya is the reason why I skipped the Wii U entirely. Like you said it's a predecessor to the Shield TV and therefore the Switch (same hardware) but it's much more than that. A game like Celeste wouldn't exist without the success of Towerfall which was funded by Ouya Inc. Matt Thorson should have at least mentioned Ouya Inc when he won that award.

Yes. It failed, but it was a cheap console, and a good idea. I wish youtubers would have their own original ideas instead of just repeating reddit comments from five years ago.
Despite popular opinion, I actually enjoyed my ouya. Never had any connection issues with the controller but did have issues with the buttons sticking. The user interface was simple to understand and it was incredibly easy to sideload apk's. Only stopped using it because it was no longer supported.
What part is not supported? I just used the OUYA store last week.

I found the OUYA with no controller or power cord at Goodwill for $12. Luckily I had an extra 12V adapter that got a power supply to it. I don't have a controller that I can use with it yet, however I have seen a PS3 controller that will work I just need to find one for cheap. What I'd like is to jailbreak it, put KODI/XMBC on it or at least put something like RetroPie and play 8 bit games on it. I'm not a huge gamer, so if I can do that every once in a while, it will be worth it.
Used mine for years ! Almost every days running xbmc. I spent so many time on bombsquad. I've fried my first and bought 2 other ouya. I recently put stock Android on one of them, but I might reinstall the stock ouya rom soon.
You're joking, right? You could've been on a PS, having a much better time, without even frying the controller.

I own all the Ouya variants. I love the Ouya it is my first full collection. I wish we had something like the Ouya I would buy games all the time their just to find the game on steam with less reviews sometimes not even enough to have a positive or negative rating. It was a good games platform if you looked but I can tell not many people put in the effort most Ouya I bought still have the plastic on them😂
The Ouya was pretty cool. As much as people gripe about the controller (I was original backer and never had controller issues), the biggest reason it failed was people wanted Ouya to use the next generation Tegra for more powerful 3D games, but they would not.
One thing that's often overlooked about OUYA is the impact it had on Android gaming going forward. The Shield TV would have had a lot harder of a time if the OUYA hadn't come before it, because OUYA singlehandedly convinced tons of developers to include gamepad support in their Android titles. Sadly, the OUYA controller didn't map its face buttons in the same order as other controllers, so picking up gamepad-compatible Android games that weren't specifically designed for OUYA can occasionally be awkward and OUYA-designed games released on Google Play sometimes have strange button mappings. (This is much less common in my experience, though, because the bright side of the OUYA controller being so terrible is that people used third-party controllers with it so games just stuck with the more common button mappings.)
I got an OUYA for free from a coworker. I enjoyed it for a while, but I discovered a design flaw with the power supply... It's got an identical barrel connector to the NES's, but the NES outputs 9V AC while the OUYA needs 12V DC. Plugged it into the wrong cord one... fried the poor thing. Alternating current kills, folks.
The ouya may suck but bombsquad on the ouya does not.

As an owner of ouya for 5 plus years, I just have to say good luck with yours! Mine bricked itself about 2 years ago and I got so fed up with it I trashed it. They are very cheaply made and yours will break overtime guaranteed, and there are no places that repair these things. Not sure if it’s even possible to play an ouya at this point cus it’s an online based system. Before you can even play it it’s mandatory that one you have an online connection and two you have a credit card, you must enter credit card info as well it won’t let you on without it. If the ouya network/store is no longer functioning then yer not playing ouya. It’s really to bad, cuts in the time I had my ouya I really nioyed it, it’s excellent for emulation and very easy to navigate, they also had some pretty cool exclusives like double dragon trilogy remastered and ff3!reworked to 3d etc etc. I think with a little more care the ouya could’ve really been something, but all of it’s flaws just really make it a shit system. Your best bet is going with a nvidia shield, fuck this thing trust me
I got an Ouya when it released. I absolutely loved it.
The thing about the controllers is that it wasn't actually a design problem, it was just that many of the first run controllers had problems because they were cheaply made. People don't usually realize it, but getting quality products from China is really hard; you need really good connections from people who know how to work with the companies there. Otherwise the manufacturers WILL cut corners any way they can to save/make more money. Manufacturing is a business just like any other.
If you got one of the controllers that were made later, they are a MUCH better quality.
The only design I really wanted from the controllers was to have start and select buttons. The ergonomics weren't as good as the xbox 360 or xbox one, but they were still better than the Playstation controller that Sony used for twenty years.
I bought one of these for £20 from Game (incl. delivery) in June 2018 and still haven't got round to taking it out of the box :)

Looking forward to your take on the Nvidia Shield. It's quickly becoming the secret weapon to me and my friends. It's everything we thought the Ouya was going to be and way more.
