Tackling The First Problem With My Golf R

  • Looks we have encountered our first real problem with the Golf R. Not surprised but not too worried either, to be honest. In this video, I tried a few different ways to diagnose the issue and find the root of the problem. For anyone getting codes 2006 and/or 2015, I hope this video is helpful in some way, there's a handful of possibilities so make sure to check each one and narrow down what's really wrong. Overall, this was still a fun experience getting my hands slightly dirty with this car and learning a lot more about how the intake system works!

The issue isn't always vacuum related. I just fixed 2 golfs with the same error. If you don't want to pull off the manifold, since you have an OBD11 unit, run the flapper calibration. Could be that something messed up and the sensor is miscalculated with the position of your runner.
If you do the flapper calibration, and you get the code again, you 100% need to replace the manifold or the sensor.
Happy to answer watever else you need

Hey, sorry to interrupt this, but i've been trying to figure out how to do the flapper calibration with the OBD11. Can you by any chance explain how to do it on the OBD11 ? Thx

@@Skibs-t2f Go to Engine, Basic Settings, and scroll down until you find the flapper adaptation. Car must me on and idling for this to work.
Once you are in there though, even before the car is running, it will tell you straight away what position it is in, same principle as the throttle position sensor. It will give you a percentage. Mine was noting it was 11% open at idle, which confirmed my problem straight away

Before you spend hours and money…. Delete faultcodes and se if they return.

Really glad I found the channel. Great personality and love the way you talk to the camera. Hope to see you and the car at some of the local meets.

Every single car I have modded has had issues most with blown turbos it doesn’t matter what make they are all were tuned by reputable so called tuners, I now keep my cars std no issues 😁

With the engine not running, manually move the manifold flap to open side by hand or manual vacuum pump, then put the ignition in ON but do not crank the car. Then turn the ignition off, let go of the flaps, and put it back ON, and proceed to move the flaps. The point is to make the ECM relearn its end points. I had a similar issue on my GTi.
Also check the PCV lines, and probably the PCV itself as it works out of vacuum, mine was creating havoc on manifold codes, when the PCV was going bad.

My '11 CC had this issue. Its a gen 2 ea888. I replaced the whole intake manifold entirely and it saved me the headache
