- This video was made to remember all the brave soldiers who sacrificed themselves for our country, and to all 429 sailors who lost their lives on the U.S.S. Oklahoma on December 7, 1941.
IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ:
Well, it’s finally here, after almost a year of researching just what happened to the U.S.S. Oklahoma at Pearl Harbor. I want to address a few issues with the video. For one, the lack of torpedo geysers. I didn’t add any because green screen can’t be resized and positioned on iMovie IOS. I could’ve used another video editing software on my computer, but it was just far too close to Memorial Day to even begin to hope learning it on time. You’ll also notice how there’s a complete lack of sounds of the attack, like plane engines zooming and bombs exploding. The reason for this is because I couldn’t find any realistic air raid attack sounds that would sound just like Pearl Harbor, so I reluctantly left it as is. I thoroughly searched dozens upon dozens of videos, but I unfortunately just couldn’t make it work out, and I apologize for this. Lastly, I want to talk about the timing I have certain events at. Despite researching for several months, I just couldn’t really tell the exact time certain things occurred. The torpedo impact sequences for example, are based off of a report about the Oklahoma I found by the Navy, but that’s it. Other events are just educated guesses. No mention of the time they occurred at all. As a result, I just had to resort to winging it. Fortunately, there are events that I feel are pretty accurate in the times that they occurred, like the U.S.S. Arizona exploding or people abandoning ship. The animation is far from accurate because the Oklahoma is not a well-researched ship like the Titanic or Lusitania. Despite all of these flaws, I’m proud at my attempt to bring this mighty battleship’s story to life like never before.
