    Note: there were no coal fired battleships in the U.S. Navy in 1941, let alone at Pearl Harbor. Oklahoma was different from the other ships in that it had reciprocating type engines instead of steam turbines or turbo-electric drive like the other battleships present there.

    As usual the one ship that is still in the harbor other than the Arizona is the USS Utah 🇺🇸. Its always overlooked and forgotten 6 torpedoes launched two hit it . And sank . She was the Florida class battleship . It really upsets 😡 me . And yes I am a Utah native!

      Not totally overlooked and forgotten. I was stationed at Schofield Barracks and was able to see Utah on a Pearl Harbor tour in 1980.

      i was about the mention that they forgot USS Utah, it is sad that lots are semi forgotten, it gives me similar vibes to the HMS Renown who is often overlooked for her sister HMS Repulse

    USS Pennsylvania is first of the Pennsylvania Class battle ship . Her sister the Arizona was not as lucky that day . The Arizona was one of the first ships to be attacked that day . Few remember USS Pennsylvania was the last battle ship to be damaged. A few days before the end of the war

      The pearl harbor scene from the movie "midway" is way more realistic than the one from pearl harbor 2001 because you can actually see ww2 destroyers and cruisers. I saw a few new Orleans class cruisers and mahan class destroyers in the scene in midway.

    Glad to see others also remembered the USS Utah (formerly BB-31, reclassified to AG-16). She is the only other ship with sailors still aboard in Pearl Harbor. The Utah took the first two torpedoes dropped by Japan the morning of the attack. Also damaged were the USS Oglala, USS Vestal, USS Curtiss, Sotoyomo and YFD-2 in the attack.

    one of the biggest mistakes of the Japanese made and when you think about it now you wonder how they could have been so stupid, is that they attacked the fleet at anchor in a shallow harbor. Now they're thinking was they can hit all the ships at once and not the United States completely out of wartime capability in the Pacific. But what they didn't count on is two things. number one the entire fleet was not at anchor. Several ships including all the carriers brought out on maneuvers. The other issue is that American industry and ingenuity can rebuild in no time flat. All but two ships were raised and repaired and returned to service. And the story of the Helena is one of true American vengeance against the Japanese

  • @dontran391
    @dontran391 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    One disadvantage tactic the Japanese have done on Pearl Harbor is that it is a Harbor, meaning Shallow Water. Therefore when these battleship sink, they can potentially still be salvageable.
    The goal is to have ALL the Ships TOTALED. Here we see most of the ships were DAMAGED, but NOT TOTALED compared to USS Arizona & USS Oklahoma.
    The best way to have ALL the Ships TOTALED is to have at least an armada of Japanese planes keep on pounding Pearl Harbor. Heck, maybe have the Yamato doing artillery strikes on Pearl Harbor. That way, we see more TOTALED ships instead of DAMAGED ships. This also meant full invasion of Hawaii by Japan instead of sending "2 waves" of Japanese planes. Overall, for Japan, they should have done an "All In" strategy, by sending ALL their planes COMBINED with using their Battleships to completely "soften up" Pearl Harbor & therefore will see more Totaled Ships.

    • @Maxvla
      @Maxvla ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Considering the Yamato was commissioned (ready for service) Dec 16th 1941 (9 days after this attack), I'm not sure how you expect it to be part of the Japanese fleet.

    • @dontran391
      @dontran391 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Maxvla Yamato was commissioned on December 16, 1941? I thought she was commissioned earlier in 1941... My mistake... So for the paragraph above of "Yamato doing artillery strikes on Pearl Harbor", replace "Yamato" with other older known Japanese Battleships, such as Nagato, Mutsu, Fuso, and/or Yamashiro.

    • @patrickmccrann991

      The Japanese Fleet did not have the logistical force to support a continued attack on Pearl or an invasion. Much of their fleet was conducting other operations at the time, invading Malaya, Philippines, etc. Your observations are not realistic for the capability of the Japanese forces.

    • @patrickmccrann991
      @patrickmccrann991 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Easy to think that but not realistic. Radar and radio communication were still primitive by today's standards. No U.S. Air Force in 1941, still part of the Army and just becoming a force to be recognized.
