Assistant manager at a different game store here, can confirm that being a woman in this kind of job can be quite aggravating at times since people either assume you don’t know anything just because of your gender, or they think they can get away with saying some really creepy things to you. But being able to work with stuff that you love makes it all worth it :D

I am not young anymore, but I remember that when I was young, gaming was not that common and you always could not talk about gaming when you got your new work. There was some kind of odd thinking that person who loves gaming is not hard working. Fortunately, times have changed and nowadays it is simply fine to talk with gaming as hobby. Somehow, I feel that in older age group gaming was not that common and it tool time to find like minded people. I remember when I found Nintendo Academy club and the moment when I did to not need to explain that I really like games...

She had to fight tooth & nail in a male dominated industry to prove she is legit when in fact, she knew more than all of the men she was surrounded by. The video game industry is loaded with misogyny. It's good to see that more women are involved & taking leadership roles. We need diversity because video games are for everyone.
I'm sure she had to fight tooth and nail to get hired as a writer on God Of War Ragnorak... Especially considering she had no prior experience writing for games as well!.... Hmm..

the stereotype from what ive seen more or less is girls are not usually the one to be gamers like in middle school and high school girls seemed to be too mature or too whatever to play games but im glad girls are becoming gamers too and even owning stores its all about the love for games not the gender or age kelsey so nice ive seen her she knows her stuff breaking down facts about ds and other handhelds

Absolutely Iove this! It is amazing to hear both of your experiences being female gamestore owners in a previously mostly male dominant industry. More and more there is new representation in the nerd culture as well as other businesses and industries, whether it be female or LGBTQIA2S and it’s just amazing to see. I tell my daughter every single day that there isn’t anything that I can do that she or other girls can’t do. You are both truly an inspiration. I’m definitely going to show my daughter this video.
