    What is absolutely astounding is the depth of her technical understanding, but it all of her focus is on the feel and meaning of the music.....not only can she explain the technical details, but also the INTENT......

    Thank you for this! Got to see her 3 times last year in The Bay Area. It was a revelation as these were the first experiences I had where there was a real sense of humanness in a solo modular performance, and I got to tell her that afterwards! When she says she hears those snippetts, she hears herself thinking, the real time dialog between her and the instrument...that says a lot. Aside from the technical stuff, there's a real lesson in that.

    For me my first exposure to quadraphonic audio was Elton John’s “Goodbye to yellow brick road”, and later live shows by Pink Floyd who did their live shows for “The Wall” in quadraphonic, which was a complete mind ‘wrench’, being gentle about it.

    Another great video Loopop! I learned modular on a Buchla 200 series in a studio with quad capability (1997, Evergreen State College) and i used to rig up evolving quad patches and listen to them swim around the studio for hours. • @mirkat1684
    @mirkat1684 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is so rad to discover, I've been using a quad design for ambient jazz/prog experiences in the past using multiple stereo delay effects to split the signals and delay them for a rotary time effect. Since I mostly play stringed instruments, I'm working on a 6 channel system using the outputs of a hex pickup through a delay system to stagger strummed chords by string temporally and geographically with PA placement (even the Boss GP-10 can do this natively, though there's no way to output 6 signals). My issue is running into the physical limitations of venues, you can really only calibrate the ideal experience to one spot, the rest is unknown or less than ideal. Alas, that's part of the fun! I'll have to explore some of the tips here more!

    With 2 H9's I think it would be interesting to have one of the reverbs dry/wet or distance inverted from the other one so when you tilt from front to back or side to side the reverb goes down or gets shorter on one side while it gets longer or goes up on the other side.

    With all the talk on synthesis going on today, there is very little talk on quad systems from the "popular" big names today like Novation, Sequential, Arp, Korg, etc., but it seems quad, especially in performance, would be looked for. In this interview, new quad systems are mentioned. Now, over 3 years later are there any systems (affordable & available) today? P.S. love listening to Suzanne. She has a spritely spirit that mixes the technical with the human in a delightful way that wants me to hear more (Buchla & her)

Maybe if she gets to participate in the process of getting that virtualization on point, but seems her stuff would only live in the realm of art and is a bummer becasue it should be more available.

    So how exactly is true Quadraphonic related to the current supposed change of Apple 🍎 Music to upgrade their selections to “Spacial Audio”? And the next question is… Has Quadraphonic selections for the 1970s (or whenever) been converted to ‘Spacial ‘whatever’ which brings true Quadraphonic back to the masses? (Or is it more complicated than this?)

    • @andrewjmark100

      Great! I got my own jerry-rigged version going with 4 speakers and a DJ mixer (1 set comes through headphone cue) and I kinda faked a quad pan with a surround sound block in Reaktor. I am really hoping that someone emulates that Buchla rig that she has in Reaktor though because that would be sweet. Also, I have been looking for a flac file of Suzanne Ciani's album to listen on my system, does it exist!?

    • @loopop
      @loopop  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well it's kind of a spoiler for my upcoming Part 2 (which I promise is coming soon! but this is what you're looking for: www.native-instruments.com/en/reaktor-community/reaktor-user-library/entry/show/10201/
      Not aware of a quad flac that's available

    • @andrewjmark100
      @andrewjmark100 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am pretty sure Quad FLAC is a thing I read it mentioned on forum (and nobody on forums ever lies) (dont quote me on that). Yep thats the block I used it works great but lacks the kinda detailed control that Suzanne has through her Buchla. The XY screen is really nice though to see how your audio is moving around the 4 channels. I also worried that since it was surround and not quad that it might be removing certain frequencies that were sent because I was missing channels designated in 5.1 (I think it was the sub and the middle chanel). Maybe not though? it seemed to work without much of an issue when I ran it through my mixer.

      loopop I’ve heard some great sounds coming out of the 4 speakers in the iPad Pro... maybe there is a way???
      Would be great if AUM could send 4 tracks to 4 speakers...

    Hi - I'm trying to locate the accelerator controller IOS app which Suzanne refers to as "Tilt". Do you have any idea where I can find it?

      @loopop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think she was referring to the Animoog app, which can respond to tilt as a mod source

      @@loopop Yes - she does use the iPad to control the Animoog app, but in the video interview she seemed to be referring to the control of H9 reverb effects (or did I image it?).

      @@mickglossop oh yes If I remember correctly the h9 app also has tilt control - if not you might be able to send it midi from an app that does
