@Big World that's a really good point! I'm going to pin this comment as I think a lot of people could benefit from knowing about this extra feature. Thank you!
I just bought this card a few days ago as of this comment for $1,475 USD after taxes.. Hands down, it's definitely the hardest hitting 4080 out there, top performance. It runs quiet for me, I don't have the coil whine that folks have mentioned with this card (perhaps I just got lucky idk), it runs cool of course because of the massive heatsink lol... In 1440p, this card is practically on the heels of most of the 4090s, it's a monster. For me, and all the titles I've played so far with my setup, the only time I'm noticing a big difference with the 4090 over the 4080 is when you want to push 4K max settings, max RT, with a super high refresh rate monitor... That being said, I can still play pretty much anything on 4K max settings with this card, and still get over 60fps at the least. Some games I even get around 80fps in 4K. So it's a decent 4K card as well. Obviously the big drawback to this particular card, is that it's just really expensive, and it does in fact put you into that situation where you might as well save up a couple hundred more and get an entry level 4090, or even the TUF 4090... Because a 4090 is still a 4090 lol. But I'm a loyal ASUS customer ever since EVGA dropped out of the GPU game. I had to have the Strix 4080, so for me personally, worth the money, especially since the Strix 4090 is a considerable jump in price, over $2,000 USD after taxes at the cheapest for a brand new one that I've seen, and over $2300 USD more commonly.
That's so great to hear that you're enjoying your Strix 4080. It's an excellent card. I agree. It's definitely enough horsepower for almost everything you need. Every time I review a 4090, they are great.. but overkill for what I need. I've scaled back to a 4070 Ti for everyday casual gaming myself.
The size is starting to be ridiculous. They need to just box these in their own case and create a new interface to plug in. The motherboards are smaller than these monsters.
Hi. First off, amazing video. High quality video. Well put together. bought the white version of this card about a month or so ago in the UK it cost £1,500. I bought it for the quality and for the looks as i built an all white system in the Corsair 5000T white case. The card is amazing in every way as you already know. With the white version you also get the ring inside the box. Only in the white strix versions. I am running 3 screens off it. 55 in in the middle and a 27in either side. It looks amazing and is amazing and that's simply the reason for me buying it. I am not no big gamer but mainly got it for the sheer sick quality look it has and how it contributes to the sick looking system i have. Good luck with your videos.

Depending on application, the 4080 can make a lot more sense than a 4090, due to thermals, also the 40s cards are better at transient spikes , VRs the 30s series. This was a problem for me with both the strix 3070ti and 3080. Only a 1000 platinum psu would stop the constant crash. All my temps were fine, it was a transient issue, only could see the issue with a fast o scope…thankfully I have one…. I am upgrading the strix 3080 to 4080, mainly due to thermals, I will get around 40% better performance, slightly higher tdp, yet the card runs cooler to about the same in benchmarks I have seen. For the 4080 VRs 3080, and And I run all air. No water. A 4090 would just throttle in my application. And would make no sense. Like a Smaller air cooled case. Sometimes less is more. Agree with rgb on the 40s strix. Kinda bla….. And prices on the 4080 are stupid. Just flat out stupid. And the price killed this card, a great card, an insane price.
Yeah, I agree. The 4080 is a solid card. I'm waiting for the new Asus ProArt 4080 to come out for my personal computer. In the 4000 series, the price vs performance is very linear. Each bump up costs a similar percentage to the performance boost you receive. That's why you can't really go wrong with the 4000 series. It just comes down to your budget.
Great video, although you forgot to mention 1 thing. The 2 pwm connectors on the side of the card to help with cooling, other then that great video ill subscribe. 👌🏽
Aha! Good catch Josh. I can't say I've ever used the PWM connectors on a GPU before, but you're right.. they are there at the end of the card. Have you made us of them before? Thank you so much for the sub!
@@JohnLCharette honestly, i just purchased the 4070ti strix oc. Haven’t installed it yet, but to answer your question i haven’t. Im coming from a evga 3070 so all this stuff is still kinda new to me. I don’t think ill ever use the pwm connectors either since the 40 series has great cooling but nice to have if one tends to go that route. Lol
Yeah, I feel the same way. I'd love to hear how you like the Strix 4070 Ti. I just published a Zotac 4070 Ti video here: th-cam.com/video/Sgt_DNdAtfA/w-d-xo.html. I thought it was a great card, so I'm expecting you'll have a similar experience with the Strix.
@@JohnLCharette i really like the rgb on the zotac amp, i think it’s probably the best 40series card that has rgb in my opinion. I not a fan of the strix, i feel like they could of had a better approach to the design and colors of that card. The backplate is nice though. Lol ….. I’ll definitely give you my feedback on that card, just waiting on a few part’s before I install. 🤙🏾
Hey Carl! I think it would look alright if you mounted in vertically so you could see the big X lights.. the side isn't anything to write home about though. Are you thinking about getting one?
I've been very tempted to try out a 4000 series Aorus Master or Extreme. I absolutely love the LCD screen. Let me see what I can find. Are you leaning more towards the Master or Extreme? If so, why?
Good day. I don't know what 'positioned coil whine' is vs normal coil whine. I Googled it, but couldn't find anything. Can you please explain the difference?
@@JohnLCharette thanks! I just got this card and will be testing against a 7900 XTX in my rig. I actually owned a 4090, but sold it for a profit (seemed like a good time) and got this 4080 for a steal. For the games I play it made more sense to sell the 4090
Yeah, I've been using a 4070 Ti as my main GPU for a while and it working well for all of my 1440p gaming needs. I'd love to hear how your 4080 compares to the 7900 XTX though.
Oh yeah, it's plenty! A Strix 4080 pulls 350w max + 133w for your 13700k = 488w. Add in a few accessories, fans bring you near or just over 500w. You're well within the 80% usage range of a 1000w power supply. In my opinion, as long as you're 750w or higher, you're good.
I got a 4090 Aorus master and very happy with it. It replaced my Strix 3090, which disappointed me compared to a 3080 gaming X trio. A 4090 is beyond anything a and it overclocks at 3030 mhz with a 200 mhz bump in afterburner. Super solid card, I love it. I plan to get a 4080 strix too. Originally I had a 5900X now a 5800X3D.
Ohhh, I haven't reviewed any Aorus 4000 series card yet. I have considered picking up a 4070 Ti to review it. Does the master come with a screen? And I just downgraded to a Gigabyte 3090 and it's okay, but I'd much rather use a 4070 Ti.
You will take a worst step. MSI suprim X is far far better then Strix 4080 and saves money too. Even i will take gaming x trio over Asus strix expensive cards. Asus warranty is riot as well. Asus products come with expired warranty even if you buy from distributors. You have to email Asus to correct the warranty expiry date. During this process they take normally 1 to 2 months. If you send a product to Asus for warranty claim during last two months they will call it technical error and consider your product as non warranty due to late receiving.
5900x is a better processor for both creation and games combined t. The temp are higher with 5800x3d . 5900x cones with 6 cores per chiplet so it dissipates better the heat. 5900x is very close in games fps than 5800x3d and beat it hard in blender and pro application like davinci resolve, adobe apps and video conversion and editing. Personally i will buy the 5900x. It is a better overall processor at the same price today.
@JohnLCharette had to special order it I'll find out in a few weeks just trying get the use out of my new monitor wanted to see if it's as good as ppl tell me for 4k gaming
Yeah, I never got the opportunity to test out a Suprim 4080. I review their air and liquid cooled 4090 and they were amazing. Right now I'm benchmarking the Strix 4090 and looking at the scores, the Suprim wins almost every time.. not by much, but still a clear winner.
Been looking at the strix 4080 for a build I want to connect to my 60hz sony bravia. Looking at 60 fps minimum with full rtx on. Undecided if i go the 4080 or 4090 for when I eventually get a new tv...
I'm assuming you want to run games at 4K on your TV? As for the framerate, it will really depend what games you are playing. Cyberpunk 2077 and the new Dead Space are super high end games with RTX on. If that's the type of game you want to play, I'd definitely recommend going 4090. Know that you can enable DLSS 3.0 with either card and it will really help get your framerates up with a small decrease in image quality. Let me know what games you are thinking.
@@JohnLCharette Thanks for the info. The games you mentioned are pretty much what I was looking at playing. CP 2077, hogwarts legacy and a few older things. Looks like I'll have to shell out for the 4090 if I want to run full rtx with those games on my tv at 4k.
Ahh, too bad. I hear the Zotac 4090 Trinity is also very good and similar priced to the 4090 FE. Not sure if Zotac is a brand you can get in the Neitherlands though.
I experienced a little bit of coil whine on this card, but not like some other cards like the TUF or Gaming X Trio 4090s. Most 4080/4090s have a little bit of coil whine. I was very comfortable with the amount on this card.
The prices in europe are insane, and Nvidia doesn't even sell FE cards to Sweden where I live. Here a 4090 goes for like 2500 - 2800 EUR while a 4080 goes for 1600 - 1850 EUR. That's a bigger price difference. I am not sure it still would make the Strix 4080 more interesting since it goes for 1950 EUR haha
i'd get the 4090 FE... If it were available here (Philippines). If i order it elsewhere, shipping+Customs tax makes it not worth it anymore. So i'm getting the 4080 strix instead w/c is available at SRP here. Moving up fom a 2080 strix, so yep, personally happy with this 'statement' card, even with the premium price.
Thank you for your candid reply. I appreciate hearing from others, especially in other countries. When I tested the 4080 Strix, I was very happy with it and I hope you will be too. Upgrading from a 2080 Strix to a 4080 is a huge jump! Congrats on getting one.
Yup, 100% agree. I'd much rather have a 4090 FE myself, but that being said. Last night I watched an unboxing of the new white Strix. It looked very sexy. That I might be interested in!
4090 is the better deal BUT the increased power draw means I’d have to replace my 1000W psu I just bought which brings my total $ spent higher. 4080 Strix it is 😂
Recommended PSU for a Strix 4090 is 1000w ;) Just saying... MSI has a minimum recommendation of 850w for their 4090s. If you've already bought it, all good, but if it's the PSU holding you back, I would still go 4090.
@@JohnLCharette a stock 4090? And I’m also running an i9-12900k. I’m worried about thermals on the 4090. The Strix 4080 is appealing because of the fans + temps but if the 90 is comparable I’ll just get that.
Thankfully the performance boost + cost is very similar from the 4080 to the 4090. It really comes down to your budget. You won't go wrong with either model. 16gb of VRAM is plenty for any game. Don't stress too much ;)
I absolutely love what Zotac did with their 4000 series cards. I've only heard good things. And yes, the prices on the MSI cards have dropped quite a bit since I recorded this video 4 months ago. Asus Strix has always been the most expensive card on the block. I would highly recommend Zotac's GPUs.
I got this Asus rog strix geforce rtx 4080 oc and i wil never ever get a founders edition. Its running 2 months and its great . I will never OC it because i am extreme happy like it is right now.
That's amazing! I love how pleased you are with the card. I'm the same way with both my cars and GPUs. I buy the card that's always been overclocked or is ready to perform without needing to tweak it or modify it. Thanks for sharing!
17:50 Um, just because you can't find 4090s, doesn't mean you can't compare them. XD Whoever uses that as an argument, should really seek help. lmao Coincidentally, I also grabbed a Gaming X Trio 4090 from BestBuy on backorder. Guessing MSI has some shipments going out. Curious what the estimated shipping date is for you? I got mine in Canada, and claims to ship before Jan 9th. The ASUS cards just didn't make sense to me this generation, in price or size. Been a while since I've tried an MSI, but, it should be just fine from what I've seen. Upgrading from a Strix 2080 OC actually. Looking forward to it.
Aha! Yes, I'm in Canada as well. Appreciate the local love. My Gaming X Trio has no delivery date yet, but my Suprim X just shipped at it's arriving Dec 28th. Let me know what you think of your card when you receive it. I'll post a review once I've tested it out.
@@JohnLCharette Hey, nice. Wasn't aware you were in Canada as well. Ya, for sure, I'll be looking out for your reviews on those cards, and will let ya know how I make out with mine. I've researched these cards as meticulously as I can, and even though the Gaming X Trio wasn't my top choice, it was still one of my considerations, and does look to be rather competent. With a little tweaking of my own, maybe can improve the thermals just a touch too. Will see when I get it.
There was 17 Asus Strix 4090s that were available on BestBuy.ca about an hour ago but I missed them! There are still Suprim X’s available if you wanted to upgrade to one of those.
@@JohnLCharette Appreciate the heads up on the Suprim X, bud. I will be sticking with the Gaming X Trio though, as I have already started prepping for that one in particular. The Suprim X is even thicker, and to be honest, I am cutting it close with the Trio already. :D I was really hoping to get a Suprim liquid cooled model, as I have perfect spacing for a 240mm rad, but, I can't find any of those anywhere even close to MSRP. So, work with what ya got, I say. XD
@@JohnLCharette Well, John, maybe I should have gone for the Suprim X after all. I'm guessing they overshot their estimated stock or something, I don't know. In any case, back to the hunt I go. This is getting tiresome though. XD Curious if you've gotten any word on your order at all? Did you receive your Suprim X? :o
I have loved the Strix cards over the years, but this generation, they are too big in size, and in price. It's still a nicely designed card aesthetically, but way too big. I have a Meshify 2 XL, and this thing would be a chore to fit in even that thing. Mind you, I do use the HDD mounting trays, but, that should be non-factor in a case that size. This card, is obese, in every sense of the word, and I didn't even give either the 4080 or 4090 ASUS cards, even the slightest consideration because of it.

Another great video. Thanks John.
Thank you! Appreciate the love.
The downside of this setup is GPU sag because of the casefans at the bottom, no place to mount the GPU anti sag thingy.
Agreed. Ive seen sag brackets that connect to the motherboard stand offs. That would work well.
I meaaaan found the video actually typing in looking for this exact model lol .. watching…
Ha! TH-cam search actually works. Hope you enjoyed the video :)
@@JohnLCharette i have! Ty
if this thing really dont have coil wine issue I would really call it a king too
I'm curious. When did you buy yours? Recently or when they first came out? I feel like they've resolved the issue with new releases.
Hi John! Curious on your thoughts on PNY XLR8 GPU as far as RGB. I personally really like what they have done with the RGB for the 40 series.
Hey Carl! I think it would look alright if you mounted in vertically so you could see the big X lights.. the side isn't anything to write home about though. Are you thinking about getting one?
Can you compare it with Aorus Master or the Extreme version?
I've been very tempted to try out a 4000 series Aorus Master or Extreme. I absolutely love the LCD screen. Let me see what I can find. Are you leaning more towards the Master or Extreme? If so, why?
Can you tell if it is positioned coil whine? If Asus solves this on new boards manufactured?
Good day. I don't know what 'positioned coil whine' is vs normal coil whine. I Googled it, but couldn't find anything. Can you please explain the difference?
Any coil whine?
None at all. I really lucked out with that card. Do you have any on yours or are you considering buying one?
@@JohnLCharette I'm going to buy a brand new exact one today! Just a little nervous of the whine
How'd you make out? Does it have any coil whine?
@@JohnLCharette hooking it up as we speak. I'll let you know in a short bit
@@JohnLCharette well sadly it's got the coil whine lol. I'll do some fiddling and see what I can do. Dang itA
What software are you using to overclock?
MSI Afterburner - have you used it?
@@JohnLCharette thanks! I just got this card and will be testing against a 7900 XTX in my rig. I actually owned a 4090, but sold it for a profit (seemed like a good time) and got this 4080 for a steal. For the games I play it made more sense to sell the 4090
Yeah, I've been using a 4070 Ti as my main GPU for a while and it working well for all of my 1440p gaming needs. I'd love to hear how your 4080 compares to the 7900 XTX though.
Great info, would an evga 1000w p2 psu be ok for this strix 4080 and a 13700k??
Oh yeah, it's plenty! A Strix 4080 pulls 350w max + 133w for your 13700k = 488w. Add in a few accessories, fans bring you near or just over 500w. You're well within the 80% usage range of a 1000w power supply. In my opinion, as long as you're 750w or higher, you're good.
Team strix 😏🔱
@Net Freak, it sounds like you've had horrible experiences with Asus.
@@JohnLCharette exactly. Now Asus is no go area for me.
Nice I just upgraded from my 3060 ti to this card for a whopping 1600.00
Very nice! That's an impressive upgrade. What are your thoughts so far?
@JohnLCharette had to special order it I'll find out in a few weeks just trying get the use out of my new monitor wanted to see if it's as good as ppl tell me for 4k gaming
The Real King is the MSI RTX 4080 Suprim X .
Great video ,
Thank you so much. Are you considering buy a 4080 Strix?
4090 FI is out of stock here in the Netherlands bummer
Ahh, too bad. I hear the Zotac 4090 Trinity is also very good and similar priced to the 4090 FE. Not sure if Zotac is a brand you can get in the Neitherlands though.
It has coil noise, if I may ask? Thanks.
I experienced a little bit of coil whine on this card, but not like some other cards like the TUF or Gaming X Trio 4090s. Most 4080/4090s have a little bit of coil whine. I was very comfortable with the amount on this card.
@@JohnLCharette Thank you sir, I just bought mine it's just amazing .
Yikes, that's crazy expensive. I'm sorry to hear that :(
i'd get the 4090 FE...
No sag screw!!!??😢😢😢
You mean sag bracket?
agora eu quero que alguém crie uma barra de luz rgb igual das rog 30xx pra eu colocar em um rog 40xx 🥲
Agreed! I preferred the 3000 series ROG lighting much more ;)
King lol, bro forgot that the aero exists
You work for Gigabyte?! ;) I actually haven't used the Aero before, but I've seen it. What do you like so much about it, other than it's white?
For that price the 4090 is a better value. Or just wait for the 4080 ti.
Yup, 100% agree. I'd much rather have a 4090 FE myself, but that being said. Last night I watched an unboxing of the new white Strix. It looked very sexy. That I might be interested in!
Is nobody concerned that FE cards are only 1 year warranty?
@@JohnLCharettesorry but most of real gamers don’t pay for sexy hardwares only 1% streamers spend for sexy hardware.
@Net Freak.. dude, your comments are so toxic.
@@JohnLCharette comments or just this comment? 😅 btw its reality nothing toxic there. Just a fact. Well good luck
Yup, I have used 4 or 5 4090s with my Corsair RM1000w power supply with a 12900KS (150w TDP). No issues at all.
@@JohnLCharette the struggle is real 😂 I’m so torn.
Thankfully the performance boost + cost is very similar from the 4080 to the 4090. It really comes down to your budget. You won't go wrong with either model. 16gb of VRAM is plenty for any game. Don't stress too much ;)
Asus Rog Strix 4080 is not king of 4080s. Its just brainlessly expensive. MSI Suprime X performs better then Rog Strix 4080 and a lot cheaper as well.
Dios te bendiga
Zotac 4090 < MSI Gaming X trio 4090 < Asus Strix 4080 in price 😂😂 no thanks
MSI or Zotac 4090 is better for the price.
@@JohnLCharette 100% agreed on all of your points. Infact, Zotac have best warranty & after sale service as compare to Asus.

I got this Asus rog strix geforce rtx 4080 oc and i wil never
ever get a founders edition.
XD Whoever uses that as an argument, should really seek help. lmao
Coincidentally, I also grabbed a Gaming X Trio 4090 from BestBuy on backorder.
I was really hoping to get a Suprim liquid cooled model, as I have perfect spacing for a 240mm rad, but, I can't find any of those anywhere even close to MSRP. So, work with what ya got, I say. XD
@@JohnLCharette Well, John, maybe I should have gone for the Suprim X after all. BestBuy just emailed me yesterday informing me order was cancelled. :| Tried calling them, they said they could do nothing.
I'm guessing they overshot their estimated stock or something, I don't know. In any case, back to the hunt I go. This is getting tiresome though. XD
Curious if you've gotten any word on your order at all? Did you receive your Suprim X? :o
I have loved the Strix cards over the years, but this generation, they are too big in size, and in price. It's still a nicely designed card aesthetically, but way too big.
I have a Meshify 2 XL, and this thing would be a chore to fit in even that thing. Mind you, I do use the HDD mounting trays, but, that should be non-factor in a case that size.
This card, is obese, in every sense of the word, and I didn't even give either the 4080 or 4090 ASUS cards, even the slightest consideration because of it.
Yup, I agree. They certainly are getting MASSIVE. The Zotac was no different. I look at the new AMD cards and they feel tiny though.
