In a low light situation I use 2500 ISO and shoot HLG for less noise than V-LogL. It always comes out very nice. In high lit videos I shoot 400 ISO while shooting HLG.

One thing no one is noticing. I've been using the GH5S in various temperatures over a few years now. This does seem to affect it greatly. I shoot quite a bit of festival work so summer introduces all kinds of noise i dont see in winter.

I’ve had some ideas about this when it comes to the GH6 as well. Interesting…

Oh man! I've always thought it was funny that in ProRes RAW you don't get ANY benefits in 5000 iso. Luckily I pretty much shot exclusively in 400 and 800 so I never saw the benefits of the dual native ISO. Great video man!

Panasonic's official comments on release said
    for all profiles except V-log:
    Low native ISO is 400
    High Native ISO is 2500
    For V-log:
    Low native ISO is 800
    High native ISO is 5000
This takes into account the dual native ISO.
    So Panasonic was wrong?

Very nice Video, interesting it has almost the same native iso like BMPCC4K

Just looking into getting started with mirrorless after 10 years on a poor old EOS 1100D.
At this point, your talking points make about as much sense as you'd probably make from my channel's videos.
    But it's slowly sinking in.

The native ISO of the GH5s is 400iso in low sensitivity and 2500iso in high sensitivity, however V-Log-L is the camera's neutral profile so it's doubled, in all the other profiles on the GH5S use noise reduction on the image so you can go up to 6400iso but the image will be soft because the noise reduction is more aggressive.
I shoot Braw on the GH5S and I will say it's better to over expose than underexpose on this camera because of how the sensor works.
This test isn't accurate but thanks for sharing your thoughts and thanks for the video.

    • @RhettThompsonFilm

Can you point out where it wasn’t accurate because you didn’t in your original comment.

    • @clarke.inverary

@@RhettThompsonFilm ok sure the problem with these cameras and sensor ls if you record internally their will be noise reduction applied to the image, because of the limitations of the data processing system of the camera through conversation which leads to quality loss, the only format that can transcode the GH5s sensor is pro-res raw as it's an true raw video codec however the GH5 doesn't have anyway to output any kind of raw video so doing a compression is pointless as the GH5 and s5 are single gain and the GH5s is dual gain and so it's apples to oranges.
I know there is essentially no way for you to test it accurately I merely said it as a disclaimer, keep in mind the GH5S uses a different sensor than all the other Panasonic Lumix DMC as it wasn't made by the Panasonic Lumix division, hench why it's call the GH5S.
Finally TH-cam compression doesn't help either in determining whether an image is noisy or not due to it being a low bandwidth broadcast signal so it's impossible to tell from watching on here.
I hope I was able to explain it clearly, thanks for the video.

    • @clarke.inverary
      @clarke.inverary 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@cuttysark7034 to put it simply it's impossible to tell by watching this TH-cam video.
Sensor noise is generally due to the lighting, sensor preamplifier, converters, processing and noise reduction.
