Those pics were at the Springfield, mo fairgrounds. Those were my teenage days. Throw in the legend Larry Phillips, who rusty traveled with in the mid late 70s, and it was a great time to watch racing.
It's really to bad their isn't to many old school racers like Rusty, Mark Martin & Dale Sr., That know how to set up a car and work on them! I think this is why their is so much disconnect between fans and drivers! Now its all about who has the lost money an sponsors! It used to be about talent!
@Mike North yeah I thought it was odd when he said he led alot. I was 11 years old at the time and I don't remember him leading but thought eh, maybe my memory is wrong. Looked it up on racing references and he didn't lead not one damn lap.

After Rusty retired I stopped watching NASCAR.

I really liked Rusty and I'm so glad he retired when he said he was going to and didn't change his mind.
