The 302 was marketed at a 5.0 liter, not 4.9 liter as incorrectly stated in this video. It was a 4.95 liter if you wish to split hairs. It was commonly referred to as a 5.0 in street language. The 4V refers to the four venturis in the carb, not 4 valve heads.

Thanks for the clarification! It’s always great to get those details right, especially when it comes to iconic engines like the 302.

My favorite is the 289 HiPo. I just happen to own one.

The K-Code 289 first made its bones in the Shelby Cobra. It was pretty thoroughly developed by the time the GT350 was introduced. The Boss 302 street motors were under rated and actually producing closer to 345 horse power. The Boss 302 race motors made more than 460 hp. Incidentally, I’ve never seen or heard of a “hydraulic” four speed manual. There was nothing hydraulic about the BW T-10s and the Toploaders Ford used, or any of the other manual transmissions other manufacturers’ applications. The iconic Shelby 427 Cobra would cover the quarter a lot faster than the 13 second time quotes. Incidentally, never thought of a Cadillac from the 60s and 70s as muscle cars.
