Listen Americans I’m English and I have lots of experience owning Italian cars. They maybe unpredictable but they give you so much more than A-B motoring. Japanese cars maybe reliable but they lack emotion, style, passion. Alfa’s have soul even the engine bays look amazing they make you feel alive you connect with them they put a smile on your face. It’s like having a sexy girlfriend you know she might cheat on you but damn she looks hot.

I’m buying the Stelvio this week. Alfa has come a long way in terms of reliability and comfort. It’s a totally sensible car, great value compared to its competitors and still very sexy and fresh.
I would go for the Stelvio personally, it looks so much better

I'd go with the Stelvio. I like the style more, and it performs way better on road (which both of these vehicles are really made for). Plus, I feel like Range Rovers in general are kind of overrated anymore.

Absolutely true. There's like four or five different stages of Range Rover, and you can't really tell them apart. Nothing else on the road is like the Stelvio, however.
It's just different. I definitely understand why someone wouldn't like it. I just do.
Range Rover's here in the UK are driven by a certain sort of driver....appropriately, Velar sounds like another word for Wanker. Would deffo go for the Stelvio even though it looks like a fat Guilia.
Well, it kind of is a fat Giulia. And Rovers are driven by a certain kind of driver here as well. Same kind of driver that has an Escalade.

The Stelvio is simply better, cheaper, faster, prettier and if you want to do off-roads you don't buy a velar.

If you were really going off road you’d have to choose the Velar I’d think. But then again you could get a great new Jeep for much less money too. Surprising the Stelvio did so well though. Kinda impressed actually
Chris Dooley remember that the stelvio much like the fiat 500x have jeep pedigree in them, and when it came to making good offroaders Fiat produced what is probably Europe's best small offroader, the fiat Panda 4x4

Quix true but the thing is that when you spend that much money on an SUV you want it to do at least 2 of the 3 letters fairly to very well and you can compromise on the other, think all the Range Rover Sports, Porsche Cayenne's and Volvo XC90's you see around on the street and they'll spend 95% of their times onroad when they have just as much ability off-road. This is what I like about TFL cars they test their cars in all environments and especially the ones they have been designed to challenge and the ones they're less likely to meet but equally equipped to handle

No-no, look: on one hand you have the 500X and the Renegade that share the same small FWD platform, on the other hand you have the Stelvio and the Giulia sharing a totally different RWD platform, with some Q4 versions, made from scratch and equpping the Alfas exclusively so far.

The Stelvio Ti sedan with same engine does 60 in 5.1 seconds; pretty damn quick for a 4-cylinder.
there's not stelvio sedan, the sedan is called giulia, and yes is very quick and also awesome driving
The Stelvio isn't a happy car off road, still it's surprising she passed stage 1 and 2 without too many problems. The Velar on the other hand is better equipped for off road so makes sense her result.
Stelvio drives beatifully over snow!!!! I am in Syracuse, and snow is all we got!

They stop because the stelvio can’t take that hill also remember the valar can easily go more places that alfa can never can or will go

God. They’re both beautiful, but the Velar is gorgeous. The Alpha is made with the snowy Alpine ski trips in mind, which it is absolutely perfect for.

I have the same diesel engine in my F-pace, to get tbe fastest 0-60 time you need to shift between 3000 and 3500 RPM. Since all the torque is down low you nedd to shift well before reaching redline.
Alex, do you have an US version of F-pace? Can you get 0-60 time close to manufacter numbers(8.2)?
Yes I have the US version. The best time I got was 7.6 seconds with the way I described above (shifting under 3500 RPM). If I don't do any of that and just floor the gas then I will get around 8.0 to 8.2 seconds.

It is a great car! I you want a fun to drive SUV then you will not be disappointed. The Turbo diesel is quick, has a good amount of power and gets excellent gas mileage, most of my driving is on the highway so I average between 38-40 MPG the best I ever got was 47 MPG. A full tank will get you about 600 miles before needing to refill again. If fuel economy is not very important to you then the supercharged V6 is the way to go. As far as the trim levels go I recommend the prestige, it has a good balance of features and price. If you want all the latest features and technology then get the portfolio, but it costs over $60,000. Either way it is a great fun to drive car. if you have any specific questions just let me know.

Why didn't you get the Velar V6 300hp diesel? Comparing them with 100hp difference is not fair!

Maybe it's bc the velar, with this engine, is already almost 25k pricier than the alfa.
They get what they get from the automakers.

I'm baffled at all the people saying they prefer the Stelvio over the Velar stylewise, I really don't get it, the Velar is absolutely drop dead gorgeous while the Stelvio is just another generic mid size SUV

Hi Nathan, Andre, thanks for the video, much appreciated. Just to make sure you remember how lucky you guys are with the car prices in the USA. In the Netherlands the price of the RangeRover Velar with diesel engine is Euro 135,000 (US$ 161,000) for the first edition..... The Alfa is a lot cheaper, but still with the 4 wheel drive 280 Hp engine, it starts at Euro 62,500 (US$ 74,800). All of this because of the CO2 tax....

I would never off road with these SUV's. Nothing pertaining to there performance, these vehicles are more than capable of handling whatever nature throws at you, but they are so luxurious and beautiful that I wouldn't risk scratching the paint due to debris etc or getting them constantly dirty.
An SUV that almost failed to pass stage 2, and that was not even 3, compared to Volvo C90 CC (which is a van), I wonder what the functionality of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
It's like you taking a mule to a season quinila race....no chance velar boy....that Italian machine is a beast......

You tested the shopping car engine on the Velar. Cant see anyone buying the car with this engine in it.
The V6 supercharged motor does 5.3sec to 62mph and 155mph..
I'm going to call it before watching, even though I'm never right. the Stelvio gets stuck on stage 2, and I will still love it. the land rover makes it all the way up.

How can you compare the 180hp Velar to the 280hp Alfa? That’s not fair on any level. You should have used the Range Rover’s 2.0 liter gasoline engine.
The Stelvio is soft - seems more suited for the tarmac; the Velar seems like it''s made for both tarmac and trail.
Van Hammer in this segment of cars you don't want more than the ability of Alfa Romeo in Off road because it's a Luxury SUV ...if you want an SUV for off road you can buy a jeep wrangler in half price of range rover velar

These vehicles aren't even in the same class. The Stelvio quadrifoglio gets to 60 in 3.3 seconds making it the fastest suv. I'm glad you guys didn't put the best versions against each other.

You should have used the 3.0L petrol engine on the velar. It would have had a higher chance of winning.

Have to admit the Alfa looks pretty good. The proportion from the Alfa looks like small hatchback which I like. The Velar has a traditional SUV look which I'm not a fan of. Plus the all Range Rovers look the same.
Are you sure about the power? the 280hp engine is fuel powered, the turbo-diesel has 210hp...
I've seen The Velar in person, it's Sleek and modern but not that good looking. I think the Stelvio looks much better, espically side by side
