Super happy to stumple upon this episode airing on Quest this evening. Great to see the old talent with current content! Honestly, the section on changing the ignition systems seemed a bit pointless beyond entertainment. Perhaps it would be better if it went in a more topical direction showing how modern systems work. It could go a bit nerdier and still fit the fifth gear ethos. Overall the show was great and I'm happy the formula's not been messed with. Looking forward to more.
Just see how "pace full" he drives the Stelvio with one hand and how he struggles to keep the i-pace on track. The body and head motion cannot lie and patching front rear unbalance with electronic garbage is an Audi type front heavy failure..Stelvio has biggest rear overhang and short cutted front of all SUV's, by far and the Nordschleife winner...only 20sec. slower than a Guilia Quadrifoglio better top speed but harder on tyres with higher CG height. Who said dogs???
Both amazing cars, although I strongly prefer the Alfa. I wonder why would they ever put the 2.2L Diesel engine in a shootout? The 2.0L Turbo is far superior and much more powerful. That's just a shame.
Diesel engines are much more common and cheaper to run in the UK. They would not feature the 2.0 petrol engine in a review over here because hardly anyone would buy it.

Jaguars with left steering wheel have massive issue. Driver legroom is limited meaning pedals are towards centre so operate acclerator your right leg is in weird angle as centre tunnel gets wider clpser to the floor. Literally any drive over 15 minutes is very uncomfortable. As pedals are offset it also means breaking is compromised as steering column is in the way of knee. Massive dissapointment and engineering failure, seems to be issue with other models sharing same interior. Even with Alfas quality issues, Jag loses out no matter what you do.
Not necessarily a brilliant comparison, not between the cars in general, but the particular models tested. Stelvio was in sportiest trim with the more powerful diesel, F Pace was in the softest, most luxurious trim with the run of the mill diesel. If it was like for like, it would have been a lot closer.
Most people would still go for the Jag, it's much prettier and more practical. Easier to live with, service etc. and probably a bit more reliable. If speed were more the priority; go for a nearly new Macan... Alfa does some very beautiful cars like the Giulietta, but the Stelvio looks too short and dumpy.
Fun and all, but being realistic, you didn't cover anything related to what would a family need in a diesel SUV like these two. what are you even doing?
Wondering which would be better at driving up and down a quarry cause these two have to have a little offroad capability even though for the most part they're going to see tarmac or city streets.
