Yes it's a Haute Couture documentary!
Filmed in June and July 2020, after the lockdown in France, but with strict health protocols.
The house of CHANEL commissioned me three short black and white videos for their social platforms. This gave us exclusive and unlimited access to the making of its new Haute Couture collection. This is my self-funded director's cut of this experience.
The ateliers, Virginie Viard, the seamstresses, the heads of atelier, the stustustudio, Amanda and Cris the fit models, the embroidery magicians, Rianne and Adut, Mikael Jannson the photographer, they all let us film their process and steal coffee and cakes.
And, emotion, for the first time, the successors of MADAME POUZIEUX show how they continue to master the iconic CHANEL braids!

Un reportage extraordinaire au cœur de la maison Chanel, une des plus belle maison de couture qui nous rend fière de notre patrimoine français. Enfin un reportage qui nous montre la rigueur de ces métiers qui sont tout sauf superficiels. Des métiers difficiles, remplis d’exigences et de passions. Je pense que tu vas donner l’envie à plus d’une personne de faire ces métiers ! ❤️ Merci encore Loïc pour ce magnifique partage ✨💋

Thank you for filming this. I sometimes feel like the gp is way too obsessed with the end product and the models but this is what truly makes me appreciate the fashion industry (especially chanel) that show how hardworking the designers are who bring Viard's artistic vision to life. Prendre la peine de nommer chaque couturière. Raconter avec émotion l'histoire des galons de Madame Pouzieux. S'enquérir du sens d'un biais découpé. Dévoiler les petites sucreries de Barbara. Parler avec poésie du tulle et du velours. Causer georgette, et "se comprendre". Ne pas réduire les mannequins cabine à des mannequins cabine.
Merci Loïc pour ce moment tout doux, si doux qu'on en oublie la froideur des magazines et l'air hautain qu'il est de rigueur d'arborer lors de la Fashion Week.

Merci du fond du coeur Loic. Nous permettre de découvrir ces coulisses me fait admirer encore plus le travail derrière chaque pièce. La Haute Couture ce n'est pas seulement de la mode, c'est un héritage et une tradition qui fait partie de notre beau patrimoine. Tout ce travail, toutes ces années d'apprentissage, toute cette belle chorégraphie d'épingles qui permettent à des dessins de devenir réalité, comme dans un rêve, c'est ça le vrai luxe. Encore une fois, MERCI ! j'ai déjà hâte de la prochaine vidéo !!

You & your team's passion towards fashion and unique sense of showing 'full picture' about the collection are truly gems, one of a kind. Thank you for giving a haute coverage to haute couture, as it deserves!
I personally love that rawness shown about the whole process of making haute couture collection: from how fabrics are made, white forms, alterations, embroidery, details, construction, assembling all together...It kind of shows that there's a ton of hard work, craftmanship, dedication, vision, instinct and discipline behind the effortless effect we see on runway. I think that your videos add to the spirit of clothes and creators.
I LOVE sweets part xD! And that the whole thing was not entirely serious, but showed humor and human characters of all these talented people behind Chanel haute couture.

Another thing that I want to add (and thank you and the equipe for) is that this format of video fully in French with subs available really motivates me to learn the language (I took classes for 2 years long time ago and self-learned on and off). And these Paris videos are my ultimate motivator to get my behind there once all craziness is somehow managed - I put off Paris trip so many times, time to make it happen :)

Ce documentaire devrait être diffusé dans les collèges et dans les lycées. Tous ces métiers incroyables sont souvent méconnus. Difficile d'imaginer qu'on peut de ses blanches mains créer de telles merveilles... Ça pourrait encourager des vocations.

Oh these are couture fabric, nothing is waisted. In 2004, while filming Signé Chanel I got some little snaps of Couture tweeds, my mother got creative with them, still have a cushion made of them!
