I mostly agree but I think the fact that you can pacify the Armored Mawdad with ONE Rock Pikmin immediately drops it to C tier at best
That's totally fair, maybe my brain was still being influenced by True Spice which is why I didn't think it was that big of a deal.
The worst part is that it's only the case in deluxe. In Wii U pikmin 3, the mandibles take a LOT of rocks to break. I have no idea why they even made that change.
Yeah there was nothing wrong with him in the first fight but the fact you can completely shut down his only attack with a single pikmin is kinda upsetting even from a casual players standpoint. he’s basically a more time consuming scuttle chuck.

I demand some respect on emperor bulblax's name. I must have been ten years old when he genocided my entire squad. The brutality was literally amplified through 100 Pikmin souls crying at once. The game even slowed down and skipped frames while i ran away in horror.

I tried to beat the water orb boss from Pokémon 1 (the secret one you need blues to fight) and they killed like half my Pokémon (I had no blues unlocked I think)

The fact is with most bosses it takes you like a couple min to figure out how to fight them. With this guy I tried to treat him like a stronger bulbax. mans gobbled up my entire squad like it was an appetizer

The Submerged Castle, Titan Dweevil, and the Mireclops are the absolute best moments in Pikmin
They perfectly encapsulate the feeling of taking on a massive being with a tiny army. Especially the Mireclops. Also his arena is so cool, especially since he killed the ship from 2.

The real problem with bosses being carried from Pikmin 1 to Pikmin 2 is this. 1) Since those bosses are at the bottom of dungeons, I think the devs modified their stats a little in anticipation of players having less Pikmin since they have to traverse many challenges to get to them. and 2) (more importantly) Purple Pikmin turned the game's challenge/combat into a joke. They destroy EVERYTHING.
I recently replayed Pikmin 2 and basically never took purple pikmin into dungeons out of anticipation for the doomsday apparatus and Yeah not having them makes things a lot more challenging.
I definitely remember having like 1/3 of my squad left by the time I got to many of the bosses on harder difficulties and dungeons taking me multiple attempts as a kid, but at the same time I didn't reset floors or know about any cheese strategies lolol
I would like to mention that in the Wii U version of the Armored Mawdad fight, to break his mandibles, you need to throw more than twice and it goes by stages too

I was going to say, I don't remember it being that quick and easy of a fight. But I played on the Wii U, so it makes sense now!
I recently watched my brother play through pikmin 1 for the first time, and that was honestly one of the best pikmin experiences. Watching him lose half his squad to the armored cannon beetle, and then watching him take on the emperor bulblax and losing all his pikmin to the jump slam attack 😂 he was so mad
You forgot that the scornet meistro is extremely easy if you bring two captains. He can only attack the captain you are currently controlling. If you have one with 0 and one with 100 you can let it attack the 0 captain and charge it while it's locked onto the 0
Weird gripe I have about Pikmin 3 bosses is that a lot of them have faces that I don't like. That and the fact that their boss arenas are too segregated from the main areas for my liking, it feels like they're their own thing and not an extension of the area they're a part of.
My first fight with the Titan Dweevil had me with only 20 or so Pikmin going into it. So it took ages to knock off one of the parts, but it was so, so thrilling the entire time because of it's varied attacks. One of the best moments of Pikmin 2 for me. I slogged through the entire Dream Den again only to find out that the Titan Dweevil didn't magically regain it's armaments because I wanted to fight it again. Such a cool boss fight.
Oh yeah! That kind of happened to me too, when I got to him for the first time I barely had any pikmin left, and by the time I beat him, I didn't even have enough left to carry his parts. It took me a couple of runs through the dream den to finally kill him while protecting enough purples to get his stuff. And after that, I ran through it again just to do the fight over. Him being permanently pacified was a damn shame.
Wish you gave puffstool more credit. On my first playthrough, I was thoroughly unprepared and he took all of my Pikmin and the most terrifying thing was Pikmin jumping on my head and killing me. And then to find out in my horror that the puffstool kept the army the next day.... I had to avoid him entirely that playthrough.
Also, the puffstool is the only enemy to appear outside of the pikmin series! It appears in The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap. I believe it's confirmed in a statuette.
I wish they'd bring Puffstool back!
Facts. I think a better implemented puffstool would be waterwraith 2.0 in that you would be absolutely terrified. Say he’s underground and you can barely see him, but then he immediately releases the gas if you get too close and comes out of the ground. Or he slowly moves towards the largest Pikmin populations on the map to eat/convert them. Just two ideas off the top of my head and this thing is already a nightmare.

I haven't played a Pikmin game since the original on launch, but TH-cam recommended this for some reason, and I'm glad I clicked. Was chill to listen to, neat to reminisce about the original, and fun to see where the series went.
The smoky Progg in particular I have a lot of "good" memories of, and the long legs scared the crap out of me the first time I fought it.
TH-cam's been recommending a lot of things I actually enjoyed watching lately; I guess it must be broken.

I actually really like the mamuta, simply because of how weird it is. It feels out of place, both in design and in what it takes to fight it. Thats why i love it

I'll be completely honest and say that I agree with basically every ranking in this tier list except for the fact that the Man-at-legs is only in C tier. Maybe its just me, but I almost always lost at least 10 pikmin to it because of how much it moved around the arena. Maybe I'm just not that good. Either way, excellent tier list! ❤❤❤
I kinda feel bad for the Smoky Progg, being a developing Mamuta, means that it is not intending on killing you, probably just wants to play but is poisonous due to not being ready to hatch.

The music for each of the Titan Dweevil’s attacks are so well done too. The fire attack feels so intense because of the orchestra. The music for the entire fight is just so well done!

Emperor Bulblax's challenge isn't defeating him, it's defeating him in time. I thinks he's a solid A if you first encounter him on like day 28, and then he slowly falls down the rankings as a boss the more time you have to face him.

The big plant spider thing from Pikmin 3 is a really good boss, as you said, there's no way to stunlock it, it gains new attacks so it isn't too repetitive, and when he's low on health, he will lick around him twice instead of once, which is pretty good. The only problem I have with him is the cap of how many Pikmin he can grab. I wish bosses didn't have those Pikmin eating limits.
I semi agree with the pileated snagret, as he's just a normal snagret but tougher, can walk and that's about it, but I do like how he isn't as easy as the other bosses, you can't really stunlock him and you either have to be really careful or just lose 3 pikmins but at least you'll one-cycle him.
Man At Legs is too low imo, great boss, just wish it gained new attacks when lower on health, such as being able to move (although much slower) while shooting, and maybe trying to impale your Pikmin as a new attack with its legs.
It's unfortunate to me that my favorite Pikmin game (2) has so many easy bosses, the game has a lot of flaws but it'll be my favorite forever.
I'd say you have a really good tierlist.
The Bug-Eyed Crawmad ended many of my deathless days for a bit.... I'd agree that it's a pushover once you have knowledge of the cycle but if you're still struggling with the aiming mechnic and fail to bust its eyes fast enough, it will easily snack on your Pikmin.
Why do people hate Pikmin dying(even a yellow the most useless)
@@DARKMK-lj4bx - Because I find them incredibly adorable and the sound they make when they die actually makes me cry. I know that sounds cringey as heck, but whatever, that’s what happens. So I do no-death runs.

I remember fighting the water wraith for the first time as a kid an it horrified me. On my first encounter He 1 hitted my entire Squad and i had to leave that dungeon. I think i needed about 4 attempts and 300 dead Pikmins to finally beat that guy 😂
Same, I just left the dungeon and actually never fought him. He just scared the hell out of me every time he appeared in the dungeon 😂

The man at arms, submerged water wraith and titan dweevil are my most memorable boss fights. Nothing traumatized me more than a mechanical spider pulling out a minigun and mowing all my pikmin down while I lay on the ground helpless

Pretty neat list! But... damn, the Plasm Wraith that close to the top? I don't think I've ever seen anyone fight him with anything other than Rock Pikmin, unless they have no issues with losing dozens of them, that is. I mean, I end up not liking him for the same reason you're not fond of the Shaggy Long Legs: Rock Pikmin can't die with him. Though, I guess it takes much longer with them.
With the Titan Dweevil, I think the multiple weaknesses thing was done amazingly, yet I can't help but wonder if electricity being an insta-kill is kinda... too much. I mean, yeah, that makes Yellows more useful and reliable, but with how dungeons work, you still need to work with all Pikmin you have, so you have the ones you can just waltz with, and then everyone else that you'll probably kill by accident. And while the Water Pump covers most of the arena, with the captains being separated, the switching back and forth mechanic makes using only yellows to actually hurt him a bit more foolproof. Still, I'd take the Titan any day over the Plasm Wraith.
I think I just like the Plasm Wraith because he's so original. Shaggy is just a beady clone + Rock pikmin existing makes him really boring to me. I've always found that using non-rocks against the Wraith leads to a very fairly balanced and fun fight, whilst using non-rocks against Shaggy just leads to frustration.
@@CrispySalsa yeah, that's a pretty fair point... what's your strategy for fighting him? Move around quickly and always try to stick behind him, and always go for the big elemental goop's that he drops?
I bring equal amounts of all pikmin and run around in circles, occasionally throwing rocks at him to get him to drop goop. When he starts chucking elemental stuff out I always get the associated pikmin type to deal with it, and leave them to clean up the gold on the floor. When I circle back around I whistle any stragglers so they don't get eaten once they're done with the floor goop. I usually don't lose that many to him as most of the fight is him chasing me down and missing with his impaling attack.

Good list, my only complaint with it is the Segmented Crawbster not being at least low S tier. I adore the Segmented Crawbster, it has such a unique design. Otherwise, I have no qualms with the list, great stuff!

To be fair to the emperor in pikmin 2, it's not like your first thought when encountering a new boss is to just be stupidly aggressive hoping to instakill it
That's more of a second playthrough type thing, on your first blind run the emperor can be quite scary. I remember struggling quite a lot against him as a kid

I first played pikmin 1 when I was 5 or 6 and I figured out how to attack the cannon beetle. It just took me a bit.

Tier lists are like ambrosia for the algorithm, and I usually just do Let's Play's and other random gameplay so you probably shouldn't expect much more of this type of content.
playing through the games now as an adult its insane how many bosses you can kill in less than 3 seconds if you spam purples/spicy spray. I feel like the controls in pikmin 3 (and 4) make the boss fights so much easier, too. Auto lock on and being able to instantly charge your entire squad with X make it so easy to jump on windows of opportunity

I really liked this tier list and agree with most of them but if you are considering exploits then in the case of the Quaggled Mireclops (in Pikmin 3 idk if this is fixed in the deluxe version) you can just stand right in the entrance and it cannot stomp you whatsoever. I personally don't consider it a big issue since you still have to get near its head to damage it but it does make the fight a lot easier since you can attack its feet with minimal losses. Overall I actually really like the boss and I don't think it should be removed from the S tier, I just thought you should know.
Funny how the Pikmin 3 bosses are great with one glaring issue

Fun Fact: the quaggled mireclops is the largest pikmin enemy, he has a carapace size of 66cm and has a legspan of an impressive 94cm!

I think the rock pikmin shutting down Plasma Wraith’s main attack isn’t that bad. Taking other pikmin types is always faster than just using rocks since you’ll be able to destroy more of those cubes and the goop they drop which is the fastest way to kill it. I don’t really like the titan dweevil fight that much, it’s a lot of waiting and slowly taking it down with yellows. The monster pump is cool since it affects all the floor so the optimal or at least safest strategy of only taking yellows adds a new threat of having to switch between captains to prevent your pikmin from dying, otherwise it’s just move out of the arena when it uses the flare cannon or comedy bomb which just makes the fight unnecessarily lengthy especially since it stuns captains even with the suit upgrades. It would’ve been better if it didn’t stun you if you had the upgrades so you would be able to have the second captain with reds or whites come in whenever it’s using one of those attacks for some extra damage
The problem is that if you didn't get stunned from the Titan's attacks it would be impossible to lose if you just constantly whistled when he used a weapon, as long as you had yellows to counter the electric weapon. I agree that the fight can take a while though and would prefer if the weapons had less health, but I just think it's a fun fight and don't mind if it goes a little long.

Also the puff stool’s attack turns your pikmin into puffmin, that attack YOU!
Man, kid me never getting too far in Pikmin 1 a few of these bosses I never knew existed until I played Pikmin 2.
I guess "if you know what you're doing" sums up a lot of these bosses and the Pikmin experience in general.
I think the list is fine. The only thing I disagree with is the man at legs placement. His design is amazing, one of the best. And I'll admit his fight could've been better. But the fact that he can massacre your army quick, and the fact that in his second fight you HAVE to use blues. I just think he could've been higher.

I like the peril snagret but that might just be because I love “upgrade” bosses where you can see where they were and where they are at now come together with new attacks or features that make them more of a threat (though every single pikmin 2 boss can be cheesed with 30 purples 1 sour spray and 1 spicy spray except titan dwevil so I guess he’s the strongest.

For the sandbelching Meerslug I thought the only way to make it go on its side is to get a bomb and throw it when it tries to suck you in. it worked but it was probably slower
I respect your list, but I feel as if you’re ranking them with a Pikmin expert’s viewpoint. At lot of these bosses you can fight normally or figure out strategies to kill them faster, which is rewarding and part of the fun.
I have a special hatred for the Smokey Progg, but not due to his difficulty (which is something I respect).
My problem with him stems from Pikmin Randomizer Playthroughs.
Small info about the randomizer I used. Rather than create a randomized seed that has specific paths and items and enemies to consider, it only randomized enemies. It would also generate a different set of enemies at the start of each day. If it’s a lower enemy, it could give you any lower tier enemy type, flora like glowing mushrooms, or fire hazards. All of this was on the same list. Medium size enemies like Bulborbs could become…almost anything. Puffy Blowhogs, Fiery Blowhogs, Bulbears…etc.
Keep this in mind.
Bosses were in their own list. Beedy Long Legs, Goolix, Mamuta…and of course, the Emperor Bulblax were in their own shuffle. The area with 3 Snagrets becomes a nightmare zone thanks to this rule as each one would get shuffled separately. Also worth noting is once a boss was locked in, it would REMAIN the area’s boss until dealt with, not shuffling with the day. Having a Bulblax in the Snagret zone was…awful, to say the least. Especially since he held the part. -.-;;
But see, the Progg wasn’t treated as a Boss Enemy by the randomizer’s list. I would sometimes see regular enemies get replaced by Proggs fresh out of their eggs. This could happen many days in a row. And there would go the day because nothing could be done until the Prog was dealt with. If I was lucky, sometimes I would get JUST the egg. Turns out the Egg counts as a separate entity, and ALSO gets shuffled. It wouldn’t spawn a Prog, ironically. But day after day, I’d get Progg’d, commit to infanticide against the super boss (baby Mamuta), then go about salvaging the rest of the day.
All that was when there was *ONE* Progg.
Imagine opening a day in the Forest of Hope, and when you look out over the barriers between your base and the rest of creation…instead of Bulborbs you see a *handful* of Smokey Proggs in their places, farting about menacingly with their glowing devil eyes.
That’s when I would brown my pants and restart the whole DAY, hoping the randomizer cycles in different enemies to fight.
You also don’t realize just how surprisingly fair the OG Progg fight is until you’re dealing with his nonsense in uneven terrain. On flat ground, his head is always technically reachable. Once elevation comes into play, throw that shit out a window because the Progg commeth and his head don’t bow. Over ledges like in the Forest Navel, his nonsense makes him extra spicy. Because while HE can go up ledges by walking over them, YOU can’t. So you could get him stuck on a ledge, or his head buried inside a wall, and your own face stuck in a tissue after drying off your numerous tears of rage.
Absolute nonsense.
And yet, I call it a testament to Pikmin’s game design that even with my hair shriveling off my skull due to stress and rage fighting Proggs…I still had fun with it. By necessity I’d gotten good at fighting Proggs, and the numerous wonderful enemies I got to fight never stopped being fun.
Despite getting Progg’d.
You can’t lie, plasm wraith was such a stressful boss, it’s probably harder to even get their

all i remember was whenever the light gets turned on and its near use the red spray (sorry i forgot the name its been a while since i played pikmin) then use all the pikmin you have and spam charge when i did that the first time it took down like 35% or something
