  • This workflow video covers my first ever TH-cam collaboration, with Nerdforge, Andyax, and VP Nordic. I got to 3D Scan the gorgeous castle miniature (bigature) that Martina at Nerdforge made, by hand. Then, brought it into Unreal Engine 5, and rendered out a sequence of shots for this Virtual Production Project.

    It was so impressive watching you work on set, just seeing how quickly you could adjust things on the fly - and seeing the process from start to finish here was super fascinating! Thanks for taking the time to (painstakingly 😅) scan the entire castle, seeing it in a 3D environment like that was just incredible!
    Oh, and one final appreciation for that establishing shot 🤌🤌

    So excited for the PCG Tools video! These hybrid practical-digital effects seem like a blast to work on (minus the on the fly crunch), you did an awesome job regardless of the challenges that came up. In my opinion these kinds of workflows yield some of the most magical visual results. I would love to see more of this kind of thing!

    Loved this episode. Reminded me of the excellent documentary on the history of ILM, Light & Magic and how important the use of model making and puppeteering was in their early days. In some ways technologies like photogrammetry and virtual production bring us full circle to how films were made years ago before everything became digital.

    I want to comment about your statement regarding creating a practical model or a 3d model and how satisfying that process is for an artist. Recently, I have read about how film/game studios are planning to use AI to replace as many artists as possible. There are many issues with this that I am not going to write about here. However, your statement about the satisfaction artists get from creating is a top issue. The feeling of accomplishment I get from my art is what drives me to get better and create more. This is a primary human trait that should not be taken away.

    • @WilliamFaucher
      @WilliamFaucher  ปีที่แล้ว

      I 100% agree with you. I think for production purposes, AI very well may take over and be used as much as possible, because companies want/need profits. That is inevitable.
      But, from an artist's standpoint, I don't think we make art for the sake of the final result. We love the process, we love getting our hands dirty, problem solving and being proud with what we built. Humans have always been that way and I don't think that fundamentally human aspect is going anywhere anytime soon.
      This is a huge, huge discussion topic that is impossible to get to the meat of in a youtube comment, especially that I see both sides of the coin.

    I love your videos, even though I don't use Unreal Engine at all. I watch them to get creative inspiration and you're such a talent to produce great learning videos. I especially loved your tipp about VRAM at the end. I wondered if this also relates to Software like Blender or Maya? What's the most important hardware in those applications? And is there a difference between the viewport "realtime" rendering and the final render? Asking because I have a RTX 2060 with 12 GB and I wonder if it would be a bad choice to upgrade to a RTX 4060 / 4060 TI which both will have only 8 GB of RAM. I am using Blender, DAZ Studio, Substance 3D Stager, Substance 3D Modeler.
