Substitute jazz in place of black and I agree 100%. There are tons of jazz guys out all backgrounds that fucking geniuses that almost nobody knows about.
Has there ever been a better Trumpet player then Freddie Hubbard, even when he as high as a freaking kite? The world is a better place for him having been in it, there is always such fire to his playing that once it sparks it is fierce, greatly missed but left such a legacy .
In 80's he did the show in São Paulo, Brazil, for about 20 people - yes, the auditorium was empity. But even that he did his best. And between a song and another, he put his hand on his forehead and said "Brazil, where are you?". My father was in the audience and always tells me this story.
I wouldn't say hes underrated so much as underappreciated. Everyone I know who knows who he is recognizes how good he is. This was an insane performance.
Obviously this was before the mysterious lip injury. Freddie was such a creative and amazing trumpet player. Each chorus just keeps building intensity. Amazing! I put Red Clay on CD intending to listen to the first track only and of course it became a mandatory full album listening session.
This made my day i heard this performed by my jazz program at Saint Augustine's University and it just warms my heart to know that there are other people in the world who appreciate good music
This is the Best interpretive version of Red Clay Ive ever heard yet....does Freddie proud! I just wish the bass was an upright... th-cam.com/video/XGZ4p5iAPtE/w-d-xo.html
Ira Coleman! Fresh from the Berklee College practice rooms and ensembles. Great player among many great jazz players at Berklee from 1980-86: Branford Marsalis, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Marvin Smitty Smith, Gene Jackson, Makoto Ozone, Panamanian pianist Danilo Perez, Billy Kilson, Donald Harrison, Cyrus Chestnut, Dave Kikowski, some great saxophonists whose names I forget, and on and on.
A mi parecer dos de los mejores solos que he escuchado en la historia, sobre todo el de Kenny, uno de los mejores videos de TH-cam, sin duda. Tremenda energía esa noche, la banda: Sólida. Muchas gracias Freddie, Kenny, Mark, Ira y Carl, tremendos!
This song always reminds me of the dirt in San Augustine, TX....nothing but red clay...:) Interesting story about the bass drum that White played on this session.
Here's the band besides FH-Kenny Garrett alto/Mark Templeton piano /Ira Coleman bass /Carl Allen drums. BTW there are some other tunes from this performance here on YT-Thermo/Little Sunflower/Dolphin Dance
One of the greatest jazz song ever! Everyone killed it, that saxophone solo was out of this world. Freddie was groovin hard TH-cam has taken down some other great performances of this song, what the hell?!!
WOW !!! Kenny garret talking so smoothly ! It's criminal. His solo is absolutely amazing and so WOW!!! The accompagment is so incredible, the way thez follow, they put up the pression and this is the Exstase of the song!! I LOVE it! Freddie, we know he's underrated, but no more nowadays! It's the principal. Every one know and quote him on the "conservatoire" (jazz music academy in France). Thanks to this musicians, I think if i was there, I would absolutely not forget this day... Cheers from France ! God bless this music of souls
Golleee. Those fellas were playing some of that jazzlike music that evening, you bet ya. And it's just swell that this recording ends right at Mr. Coleman's bass solo, because who wants to listen to all that gobbedlegook anyhoo.
Freddie Hubbard was the best .Black musicians Never get the credit due .This man put it out there .
If waiting on ALBIONS to give CREDENCE on ANYTHING Created by Others than Them, WELL....
Substitute jazz in place of black and I agree 100%. There are tons of jazz guys out all backgrounds that fucking geniuses that almost nobody knows about.

Red Clay..., a jewel of jazz albums, perfect grooves, savage performances..., thanks for all that energy Freddy!!

They are all enjoying themselves. This is jazz.
Everytime I listen to this... Im convinced (like Ed Norton & Swanee River) thee intro is their warm up exercise! & I love it!
cosmic jazz with a funk beat, like a rocket to the moon
Master horn players at work here. 2 of the greatest at their instruments ever.
The album is perfect absolutely perfect. Not a bad song on the entire album.
Freddie is, as I just started to realize, criminally underrated...

yes, it is a crime that Freddie is not more well known to the general public. But the same can be said for Kenny Garrett and a host of others.
@@rillloudmother Nat Adderley :(

Quizás no ha sido tan revolucionario como Davis, pero como instrumentista, nadie le ha superado.😊

Who cares who the drummer looks like..appreciate the genius of these players.
