i served in 2002 - 2004 in the German Army in a Panzergrenadier Company so that was my main weapon the HK G36....had some flaws in rainy weather and cold temperatures because it caused problems with the visor....it was a good weather weapon.....worked ecxelent on sunny days....but when the weather got bad you could only use it as a club
I just bought an HK SL8-6. I love the G36 & XM8, but have no desire to convert my SL8. It's a great gun as is. And, miracle upon miracle, it's LEGAL in The People's Republik of Massachusetts! (Although, spare 10-round factory magazines cost between $54 and $80 EACH!!!)
Wow, I didn't realize those mags were so expensive. Sometimes people list the ones they have left after the conversions for cheaper, but it has been a while since I looked. I have an older gray/blue SL8-1 I'm keeping in stock condition. I've never fired it, I bought it to convert it but it was so nice so I bought another one with a scratch in to convert it. The dingbat shipped it loose in the box! My dealer and I were in awe. One of them came with a real 3X Hensoldt optic, which today is worth close to what I paid for the whole gun! Made up for the airsoft G36C optic rail it also included. I gave that away to a friend who likes airsoft.
Oh I see. I can get with the retro look. But, I prefer the ergonomic of the upgrades when firing it. I havent done anything too crazy. if you are interested I can send you a pic of mine.
Man thats is awesome, do you know anywhere that sells sl8's? I'm trying to convert my HK USC45 to a UMP45 with Tommy but this is definitely next on the list!
Nice rifle! I just picked up an SL8 myself, however I'm not going the G36 route. Instead I'm going the XM8 route. I'll probably pick up a G36......if my wallet ever recovers from this XM8 build.
Thank you! I bought the weapon in this video, but in time have replaced most of the parts one by one to get what you see now. So it was really more piece by piece rather than one kit at a time. I have acquired a G36K complete kit for spare parts.

If you live in my state, preban AR mags are the only way to go if you want 30 rounds down range unless you're ok with sorry excuse 10 rnd compliant HK mags.

so for the accuracy of markings sake, what would a g36 conversion with the barrel chopped to 14" then pinned & welded to 16" be closer to? a g36k or a g36c?

I have one, but I run rails and the AR mag well. AR mag well seems to work just fine.
Sounds awesome! I consider myself a "purist" to a fault at times so I try to keep my rifle as it would have looked coming out of the factory in 1999.
