So awesome, what a great rifle. I’ve always loved the look of the XM8. How much did it cost you in total?

Wish I had the money to get one of these done. Though I think I'd lean towards getting a G36 instead.

I like my G36 more. But both are very cool.

Hey dude awesome xm8, I just recently acquired an hk sl8-4 after 16 years of searching .. do you know a good place for parts? Btw great job on the case and the work done to your hk. Beautiful.

Thanks! If you're in the US you can find good stuff on the HKPro forum marketplace or GunBroker, if in Europe Zib Militaria is great.

@@LexCinnabon ah I'm Canada lol ive searched hkpro for parts but apparently they've stopped making some parts so I'm stuck looking on gun broker which is still cool..but man parts are hard to come by lol I actually was able to order some extra magazines from a supplier in the us I think it was wolf sports, but I've been looking for a bipod for ages lol my hk has an m lock system and and I find anything available to accommodate the sl8-4 I have. But man great to meet a fellow hk lover! Shoot me an email dude with any insight you may have, jsmeskal@gmail.com if it's cool I got a few questions on some modifications I'd like to do and just want to hear advice from someone who knows what they're doing :) . Again man awesome xm8 and that case is kick ass too.

Can you comment a list of what I'd need?

      Absolutely!
      1. HK SL8 (Host rifle)
      2. Tommy Built Tactical XM8 furniture hit
      3. Barrel (You can use the long and heavy barrel included with the XM8, or have it shortened. I opted for a 12.5" G36K barrel for my build)
      4. G36 magazine (Same as XM8, or very similar depending on the kind, they are cross compatible)
      5. G36 bolt head to feed from double stack magaxine. There are US made options available
      6. G36 extended bolt release and extended magazine release (XM8 style, not required, but closer to what a real XM8 has)
      7. G36 magazine well
      8. Insight ISM-V optic. These are rare and really expensive. Many people opt for a different optic due to this. Holosun has a few options that are similar to the ISM-V
      9. G36K flash hider
I believe that covers everything on the rifle. If you go the SBR route like I did that also adds a $200 tax stamp to the project so Uncle Sam and his friends at the ATF are happy. Of course the case and accessories adds more to the cost. When I had it built, and collected the parts over a few years, I had s little more than $5,000 into the whole thing. The most expensive and biggest parts are the SL8 host rifle, which today run around $2,000 or a little less, the furniture kit for around $1,200, and the ISM-V optic goes for crazy prices now. I see them anywhere between $1,000 if you're lucky and as high as $2,750. G36 bolts are expensive and harder to find now too, but there are cheaper US options out there. I went with a very nice US HDPS bolt, but I'm not sure if they are available now. You can also get a US G36 magazine well, and US G36K style flash hider. Most of the parts you need for the actual rifle are included with the SL8. You can sell a few parts that are left over from the SL8, but relatively speaking you don't get much out of them since most people who buy SL8s are converting them to G36s or XM8s. There's a market for everything though. Good luck!

how much did it cost you?? how long did it take for them to make it?

    • @LexCinnabon

About $5,000-$6,000. I collected most of the parts over a few years, then after having all of those, the ATF SBR tax stamp took 3 months for approval, so after that I sent it all to Tommy Built Tactical and he only took a few weeks to put it all together and finish it.
