Youre right Chris, its not about speed. It’s about drive, it’s about power, we stay hungry, we devour Put in the work, put in the hours and take what’s ours
Super impressive that you even attempted to replace a motor during the race, and that other teams helped. You got some great memories even if not great results!
This is what cars and racing is all about, the journey it takes you on whether that be winning or losing a race, blowing an engine up, helping other people out when they're having a catastrophe etc. This video makes me proud to be part of this scene!
We tried our best, certainly. We figured if we just had to button things up in the morning, we could race the afternoon.... but it didn’t work out. We had a great time delirious with sleep, it’s all about time with friends at the end of the day!
Every race has a minimum of 5-6 teams that swap engines (we have done it before). We would know, our engine hoist is normally loaned out from 9 PM Friday (after test and tune) to about 9 AM Sunday and not just to one team. It is a rite of passage in this series. We have gotten to the point we normally have "basic" repairs but have done more trans swaps than engine.
I've only been in desperate slugfests with events a few times, but I know just how hard it is to slog on when everything is in ruins. Excitement, dashed hopes and fatigue are a very heavy burden. We all look from face to face hoping to see some spark. In my experience different people hit their limit at different times and the ones who are still on their feet inspire the ones who are lying on the rocks to get back up.
you have no idea how much you inspire me Chris. Thank you so much for making quality videos instead of posting lousy quality videos several times a week.😎

Lots of internet searches, phone calls, hard work and more money usually gets it done. 2 steps forward, one step back. The persistent and the will to be undefeatable, usually take the prize.

Super excited for this video! My first lemons race resulted in a blown up engine in a BMW as well, we had a spare motor with us and got it swapped out. This actually led to quite a few changes to the car including converting the front clip to a quick disconnect where we can remove it and pull the engine faster. We also converted our exhaust to just a few rubber hangers and straight steel. We can drop the exhaust with power tools within about 30 seconds of getting the car in the air. These don't sound like much but laying on the asphalt in the pits they're a huge quality of life improvement. Glad to welcome some new folks to the Lemons experience!
It was sad that you had to replace the engine, but it just shows that other people are willing to help you with almost anything, like the garage spot you got, and the engine from the junkyard. Looks like you had a great time! Enjoyed the video too :)

I’ve been subscribed to this channel now for almost 7 years since I was a kid , because of you Chris I stated loving cars more than ever and learn about fixing them with your simple DIY videos videos. All I wanted to say is thank you Chris and I wish you a good luck in the next year race you and your great team. You guys are great !!!
Dam you basically went thru what everybody goes thru when they're new at the track. Most of the time spending time with the crew figuring shit out of the fly and sometimes unexpected things happen. That's car life, we're garage educated, we can handle it. Good content Chris!
If this video has taught me anything it's that the car / motorsport community definitely has some incredibly kind, good-hearted people that are rare to find usually.
As soon as I heard engine swap, I knew it wasn't going to be quick, I've done the same thing with my e39 going from an m52tu to an m54, and yes it might've taken only 15 hours of work, but it was constant work figuring out everything with these engines. The worst part from my own experience was putting the engine in, and completely forgetting to swap over the old oil pan (D'oh!)! My donor engine was from a z4 and obviously, the pans were different, but I, just as your team, was very tired, and just wanted to finish the project. Good luck next year, hope to see you all in the parade! Don't forget to swap out VANOS seals and the DISA valve!
Just letting you know Chris i just bought my first car! I used your videos to help me look for issues , and ill be using your videos to maintain it. Thank you for spending the time to make these videos thats easy to understand for everyone!
That's awesome that so many people were willing to help you guys out after your misfortunes. Despite the disappointment you all must have felt, I think seeing others offer their help is an awesome silver lining. I'm excited to see how things go for ya'll in the next one!
This good info for new racers and to start with older car without a ECU, AWD, etc. But the best part is you guys had fun and came together as a team. Our team is only 3 races into LeMons and have made great friends and had a good time helping others out.
This looked as fun as it was exhausting! Congratulations on showing up, and not quitting! And immense thanks for letting us join you on your adventures.
I was at NJMP for the race on another team (blue and orange grand marquis at 9:40). Just wanted to say thanks for being very open and friendly with fans like myself that came up to you and your team. You were one of the big reasons I started working on cars and it was cool to get the chance to say hi! Best of luck at future races!
Hey guys, we are starting our first lemons race in 3 weeks. Your race woahs have been our worst fears. We are running a 1983 Mustang GT. No electronics. No sensors. Simple motor. Simple everything. Let's see if we have any better luck. Great video!
Great job! Just next year take a spare 'tested' engine with transmission with you(full kit). Swapping it in and driving few hundred km so you know it runs perfect then swapping the 'main' engine back in as a team. So in a race day if it goes like it went, you already have the specific engine knowledge, where everything goes and you will be ready for quick swap...maybe of course not F1 speed swap, but... a reasonable swap so you could enjoy the event for what you where prepping and waiting. Of course you cannot bring every spare part as it ia a old car and everything can brake when you push it, but you should take some crucial parts like cv axles, joints, brake pads and discs etc. So if something breaks you are ready to replace and not to rush to a scrap where you take a part that can fit theoretically, but as it was in your case it cannot be done - at least in the given race timeline. To bad that it went like this in just lap 12, but i hope to see better results next year! Great video! High five from Latvia! Stay safe.
Even thought the m54 engine is one of the most reliable bmw engines, I’m still surprised it still ran, but the big issue with it is cooling, but you didn’t let that stop you, only ChrisFix can even do an engine swap during a race
I race too, and realize that you learn the track before the race. If you don’t have time for practice, watch videos. You are driving, you can feel everything the car has to offer. Push it
Love the not quitting attitude. Success is not earned overnight. Gud luck next year guys!!! Hopefully you can sort the oil pump and get a stronger one.
This reminded me strongly of the Top Gear 24 Hour challenge with a crappy old BMW, and theirs too went catastrophically wrong, very resilient guys and well done for trying!!
I swapped an m54 from an e46 to a e60. As you saw it's easiest to take all of the electronics off of the original motor. If you take off the intake manifold with everything still mostly attached it can swap fairly fast.
This video gave me major nostalgia the one time I did Lemons years back. It was the first time I ever did wheel to wheel and it was amazing. I wish I could do it again but it really wasn't cheap. We did manage to beat the roadkill team in a Humber super snipe though Your video definitely encompasses some of the trouble you run into often dealing with these cars. A good taste of racing by spending a ton of money only to spend all the time trying to repair.
Your team did great Chris! It was a rough situation and many problems came up but you handled it like a champ 💪🏼 goes to show how life is kinda like too! Great job to you and your team!

As a longtime ChrisFix subscriber I can only say - this video was awesome! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. You guys were fantastic in the face of adversity. Even the hotel stuffed you around - what a cluster! But your team did their best and showed grit, character and never-say-die attitude - loved it!
If i were you Chris i would (and actually am) quite impressed that the M54 in your 330XI held for so long and withstood a LITTLE bit of track time, Yes its quite ridiculous that the oil pump is a common issue with these engines but the fact it stood out punishment for about 20 years and nearly a quarter of a million miles of hard driving is nothing short of a miracle. And the fact that te engine still runs on 5 cylinders and a hole in the block is astonishing

This gotta be one of my fav vids you've uploaded
Your determination and the way you accepted that things went wrong and the motivation to try again is truly inspiring!
Thanks! And you have to at least try to overcome when bad things happen
I've been waiting for this
same
Yep 😁 Chris is the best at everything to do with cars
Me too yay
Мее то
Same man
From mastering your drifting to starting on a track race. I'm gonna like this series
This is amazing! Sorry it didn’t go as planned guys but you’ll definitely kick some ass next year!
Also I’m super stoked for that tear down video! Can’t wait to see ChrisFix go all NTSB on the Beamer!
110% agree. Nobody breaks it down as well as ChrisFix!
Maybe it was a failure for you guys but this video is just the price for everyone else . Thanks you Chris fix for the best content❤️
Thanks a lot
Wow, what an awesome video man! Looks like a really fun event and something I'd like to try one day! Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks a lot!
That is awesome!
Thank you Chris for bringing us on your adventures. Learning from mistakes...can't wait for next year !
This looked as fun as it was exhausting! Congratulations on showing up, and not quitting!
And immense thanks for letting us join you on your adventures.
i’m honestly really happy to be part of this journey :) i’ll always be here supporting your every step and learning from the best!
Happy to see you all working together man, kept a positive mental even when things didn’t go your way. That’s the ChrisFix
Well, sh*t happen. Glad to see everybody enjoying the race. It’s great to see people together again
I was on the pit crew at the 25 hours of Thunder Hill 2 years in a row. Anything can and will happen! Still fun and a great learning experience. 🏁
Hey guys, we are starting our first lemons race in 3 weeks. Your race woahs have been our worst fears. We are running a 1983 Mustang GT. No electronics. No sensors. Simple motor. Simple everything. Let's see if we have any better luck. Great video!
I love that you didn't quit when the engine blew. Good job, looks like a really great experience!
Push it
Worked until the last second so I had no time but lesson learned for next time!
Love the not quitting attitude.
Success is not earned overnight.
Gud luck next year guys!!! Hopefully you can sort the oil pump and get a stronger one.
Oh and also bring a spare engine just in case
This reminded me strongly of the Top Gear 24 Hour challenge with a crappy old BMW, and theirs too went catastrophically wrong, very resilient guys and well done for trying!!
I swapped an m54 from an e46 to a e60. As you saw it's easiest to take all of the electronics off of the original motor. If you take off the intake manifold with everything still mostly attached it can swap fairly fast.
NOW you tell him!
Bruh the clock in the dudes car killed me 😂
This video gave me major nostalgia the one time I did Lemons years back. It was the first time I ever did wheel to wheel and it was amazing. I wish I could do it again but it really wasn't cheap. We did manage to beat the roadkill team in a Humber super snipe though
Your video definitely encompasses some of the trouble you run into often dealing with these cars. A good taste of racing by spending a ton of money only to spend all the time trying to repair.
That’s pretty awesome! But yea it’s expensive even for “cheap”’racing
Смотрю на это все с восхищением! Класс.
I love how determined you guys are , very inspiring, I would’ve done the same if my engine blew
Sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. Great job guys!
Your team did great Chris! It was a rough situation and many problems came up but you handled it like a champ 💪🏼 goes to show how life is kinda like too! Great job to you and your team!
Chris you really need to upload more times a month bc I can't get enough of ur videos I have been a fan since 2017 and I have learned so much from you keep it up buddy
I wish I could dude! I'm glad you have learned a lot!
Dude Chris is all about quality over quantity. I mean he literally spent two years making a video on head gasket sealer to make sure it actually worked.
@@chrisfix you know what is best for you just stick to what you think is right.
@@chrisfix Hire an editor!
Jay Lamm is such a cool dude. Saw him on Roadkill years ago when they raced the Datsun. Glad to see he still wears the lovely hat!
very nice realistic view for those who have yet to try. Thank you for the honesty! Hard to find these days :)
I remember when i went with my dad for his first drag race, he was super nervous and a lot of bad stuff happend. Even thou was frustrating it was fun, i feel you chris 🤝
Those are the good memories! It sucks while you live it but it's great looking back!
this vid is so enjoyable to watch, even though things are escalating rapidly in not the best manner, loved the vid and good luck on your next race, chris!
Carry on chris, just carry on !! What a great experience man, thanks for sharing.
I cant wait to see your team back to the track, and i believe you guys gonna do better on the next race series. God bless
Im so glad you got Jay and Eric they are the face of Lemons
Back at it again with the amazing videos!!!!! Love what you do man!
Thanks!
Damnn your team is awesome Chris.......i m really excited for the all new videos and new strategies for the next lemon race.......this series is damn addictive
Thank you for this video. It shows me that there are still fun things left in these bad times. It keeps myself from thinking to much. Stay safe!! Greetings from The Netherlands
We all need heroes because they show us what can be done.
Wow what an experience to live through. Seeing the amazing team effort from your team and other teams as well by lending their working space and equipment, It’s definitely a lifetime memorable experience. A great way of showing that even in the times we are leaving with chaos in our nation and around the world, Good people at heart does still exist demonstrated not by words but rather with true actions. kudos to all👏👏🙌🙌❤️
It was something I will remember forever! Amazing environment at races like this, everyone is always willing to lend a hand
It warms my heart to see the race community come together to help out a fellow competitor. Great job guys!!
Chris! Been waiting for this video for a long time! Thank you for showing the real life situation as always!
Can't wait to see your next attempt!! A first lemons race rarely goes without a hitch!
this is the way to succes, you must try and try and try, no matter how many times. So, GO!! Chris, GO!!
You guys need to record these more often.
This was very interesting and fun to watch.
I would love to see you guys try other types of racing, maybe like amateur rally.
The next race in June will be recorded as well!
Thank you for all your hard work.
Thanks a lot Peter!
11:20 he knew exactly what he was filming. 🧐
Even tho you didn't finished the race your experience is much more important.
I bet you've learned a lot from this.
We learned a TON! Can’t wait for the next race.
Hey Chris, I just wanna thank you for this channel, I started watching you when I was 13, and it’s what got me into cars. in one week I start my job as a general service technician at a local shop. If it weren’t for you I wouldn’t have this job. You have helped so many people and me and my friend just have your videos on loop when we work on his truck.
Great video, as always! Love your team's can-do attitude and recognizing when it's OK to accept defeat. The icing on the cake was how good of sports you all were by showing up to the ceremony with the same enthusiasm as the winner! Looking forward to your next video.
Hey Chris, thanks to TH-camrs like you, I have bought a Jeep, and a Honda for a race car, all on my own. I will admit, they are both complete crap, but I have two cars, that are my own. I can’t thank you enough for teaching me how to fix my, and other peoples cars.
That’s so awesome Thomas! Glad to hear I helped with the car addiction haha
I was not expecting you to reply, thank you, and you certainly are lol
> I will admit, they are both complete crap, but I have two cars, that are my own.
And that's what's important! They're yours, and I'm sure you love them, even if they might not exactly love you back.
It may look and feel like a defeat, but you don't just invent yourself a team, this is what makes you a team. Well done guys if I were the owner I'd be proud of each and everyone of you.
enjoyed to watch like last time
Thanks!
As a longtime ChrisFix subscriber I can only say - this video was awesome! Thanks for taking us along for the ride. You guys were fantastic in the face of adversity. Even the hotel stuffed you around - what a cluster! But your team did their best and showed grit, character and never-say-die attitude - loved it!
this is crazy, I would honestly LOVE to go see an event like this
If i were you Chris i would (and actually am) quite impressed that the M54 in your 330XI held for so long and withstood a LITTLE bit of track time, Yes its quite ridiculous that the oil pump is a common issue with these engines but the fact it stood out punishment for about 20 years and nearly a quarter of a million miles of hard driving is nothing short of a miracle. And the fact that te engine still runs on 5 cylinders and a hole in the block is astonishing
I was honestly pretty impressed it did that! And it accelerated up a hill!
