I always loved this movie, not because it was good, but because it always felt like it was a lot deeper than what we got to see. I would've loved for the movie to go in depth about the ghosts.
I would recomend taking Mirtazapin. Only medication that acctualy made me drowsy without any major side effects. I have been taking it for two years now and can definitely say it brought my life in order again.
Something I noticed while watching this video is that the Hammer didn’t act aggressive towards the nanny even when she got up close to the glass, he just looked at her, but when Matthew Lillards character does this the hammer reacted violently. I think this is because the nanny, like him, is black so he didn’t see her as an enemy.
Could even be that she might've reminded him of his wife. Even as an enraged ghost, I'd be pretty chill too if someone came along who even partially resembled a person I used to care for.
I think he was a gentleman through and through before his family was stolen from him, and wouldn't have harmed someone he didn't have a soul-burning grudge against. He's happy to beat the tar out of Dennis and throw Cyrus into the spinning blades at the end. He was also fine with going after Arthur. What I wanted to see was how he would react if he came upon Kalina or Arthur's kids. Violence is supposed to be all he and the other ghosts know, so how would he react to them? So many interesting what ifs to explore.
This is why being up at 2:30 in the morning is a good thing, you get a GG movie review to accompany work projects. I always thought the ghosts needed more screen time, they were all so different and scary
Cabin in the woods was like a spiritual succession to this movie for me..... Explaining a bit more about the backstory of monster characters in the film. Both super fun films
What do you think about the "theory" that Silas didn't even need Arthur as a failsafe anymore - since Dennis ultimately sacrificed himself while in the house? I didn't even realize that until I was rewatching the film last year, lol. First video I've seen of yours and already a fan!
@@scottball2796I mean a sacrifice for love is selfish as well. Its not like you're sacrificing yourself for someone you hate after all you're doing it because you're ranking your kids being happy above you being alive in your priorities but they are still YOUR priorities and wants. Its possible learning to love yourself might somehow qualify although yeah I doubt it. But either choice still has an element of selfishness either way they're just good productive kinds of selfish lol
I think the idea that Matthews character knew he was going to die, but went through with it anyway to help him. It was also a way of redeeming himself for helping a millionaire capture a bunch of souls for a evil purpose all just for money. He could've used his pshycic powers for good but instead used them to make a quick buck. The decision to go against everything he helped create to put a wrench in the evil dude's plan and save a family while he was at it was the ultimate redemption. Was also kinda symbolic he died by the ghosts he helped capture.
I see what you mean, but isn’t capturing the ghosts, even if for a selfish reason, an overall positive outcome? Now they’re stuck in the house and can’t hurt anyone.
This movie still has a special place in my heart, I first saw it when I was like 13 and at the beginning of my "edgy" phase. I remember googling the Black Tarot afterwards and being absolutely gutted it wasn't a real thing. I mean, admittedly I was 13 and dumb, but it says something that the lore was so intricate and cool that it just made sense to me that this must be based on a "real" legend or something. So much missed potential it still makes me sad. Imagine how awesome this would have been as a series centered around Cyrus or even Dennis with an episode dedicated to catching each ghost.
For a time if you looked it up, it would lead to the website promoting the movie and you could find the stories behind each ghost. This movie scared me so much as a child I had to see if it was real. All for the movie... But very interesting writing. Could use a second (or third rather) swing at it!
God the art of the ghosts and the makeup is so cool. The way they incorporate the backstory into the design is so clever and it may be awful but goooood. I’m a sucker.
As a kid when my parents brought this DVD home in a box from a garage sale the cover scared me. Watching it the premise terrified me. Then when I got to the end I literally lost all my fear of ghosts irl. This movie was truly perspective altering for me.
This, Ghost Ship, House on Haunted Hill, and the Haunting all had that weird 90s flashing light editing, plus the fact that they're remakes of classic 50s horror movies and iconic novels. There's something so appealing to me about these movies, and I think it's how much work the creative teams put into them that we as the audience barely see. It's fascinating stuff, and I'd love to see you keep watching this vein of movie.
13 ghost is my guilty pleasure, The ghost and lore behind them is amazing writing and work. The plot is also pretty good so sad it’s directed and executed so poorly 😂 this is one of those movies that can possibly get a remake ONLY if they do the ghost justice and ditch the high tech glasses shit.
Funnily enough, it WAS a remake. I adore this movie, though I love the special features explaining the ghosts even more. I agree with GG on the flaws, but it just gives me a feeling no other movie does.
Like a lot of other people, 13 Ghosts is a guilty pleasure and reminds me of my childhood. I know it’s not great but it brings me back to simpler times. So glad you’re still making videos on it, high quality and in depth videos at that.
This movie scared me more than any other movie in my life. I was 12 or 13 when I watched it and seeing short shots of it still gives me immense anxiety. Love this movie
Such a great video! I’m glad you gave the backstory of each ghost. I remember reading about them on Wikipedia or IMDb after watching the movie as an adult and thinking how interesting they were. It’s so disappointing to think of all the potential this movie had if they had included all the ghosts’ backstories in it. You should do a video about another one of these types of remakes at the time House on Haunted Hill. It was actually a pretty fun movie. Also Matthew Lillard is a treasure.
I watched all their back stories on TH-cam years back and it made the film so much more effective. They really should have had an explanation for each ghost incorporated in the main story.
@@msfs19941 the whole movie is a shell of what it was intended, the original script explained Soo much stuff though dialogue and actions of both characters and the ghosts
2:38 Wait, the writings are on a mirror and the text on MistaGG's shirt during the shots where he's "behind" the writings are mirrored. Were those segments shot through the mirror's reflection for that illusion? That's actually genius.
You’d think a movie named thirteen ghosts would spend most of the time on the ghosts. I love movies that have interesting character designs that tie into the lore. I would have been cool for it to be the focus.
I'm dying of laughter with the parts playing the dad. Is it wrong I went back and watched just those parts over again. And over again. I'm crying from laughing so hard.
The vision was to show he knew he was going to die, but he knew it would be protecting someone. He also felt he deserved it because catching those spirits was moraly wrong. It was him repenting for helping sylis. His spirit was smiling at the end was him being freed along with the spirits he helped capture. I thought it was beautiful lol.
was mid watch into your cube video and it just got taken down lol, a minute before i was thinking to myself how crazy it was that you had so much audio from the movie in the video lmao
It honestly still is one of my favorites for a combination of the nostalgia, the character designs of the ghosts, and, most crucially, the contrasting combination of the gruesomely cool scene of the front half of the lawyer sliding down the glass cutting him in half and the ridiculously silly "did the lawyer split?" line.
I resonate with you on this. When I first saw 13 Ghosts, I was enthralled by the ghosts and went down a rabbit hole of reading about them. I really wish we got material just about them, their lives and their capture. Make it some dark DC comic or something. Gimme the ghosts!
This movie completely terrified me as a kid. This and Ghost Ship haunted me for years, and I love seeing just how goofy both of those movies really are now.
This is the earliest movie i can think of that gave me nightmares. Even now, today, it's still unnerving to me Btw while i fully agree we need more ghosts, in this ghost movie. the editing of the ghosts movement is what makes the ghosts scary. The jittery jumps with the flashes builds anxiety and looks unnatural. You can see they slow down the cuts when you need to see the action but it speeds up when theres unnecessary movements. Its actually genius, the director is the idiot who decided not to show the ghosts
You probably get this all the time, but I absolutely love the direction you've taken your channel since I've started watching you (i.e Predator chronicles). Cabin in the Woods did the exact same thing with having a ton of curses or whatever and what do they choose to focus on hillbilly cannibals. There were so many other cool monsters that just didn't get a lime light in that movie. I was very much disappointed in the lack of lore.
wha...? But all the monsters in that film were direct references to monsters in other films/media, that was the whole point. You don't need lore, the films they reference exist!
@@paultapping9510okay and how did they get them? If it’s film and media and that film and media exists how did they catch them? What others do they have. @mellysomething6296 can you imagine the licencing nightmare that using anything other than snippets of (definitely not) other franchises would create? But legal stuff aside, what your asking for would result in either a bloated unsatisfying mess of a movie due to not being able to give each monster the screentime it deserves, or effectively a cinematic universe which for the above legal reasons could never happen. Look how hard Freddy Vs. Jason was to make for evidence of that. While it also left me wanting more, imagining scenarios in this universe and so forth, I don't think it's particularly fair to call the film lazy.
@@paultapping9510they could have gotten around licensing with mock ups of them. Instead of typical zombie family. And a bloated mess? I’d rather a bloated mess than a run of the mill play by play horror disguising itself as high brow because it’s “aware” I would’ve fathered the focus be in the facility as opposed to the cabin. If you think the only way to not have a bloated film is to basically make it exactly like every other film regardless of “satire” means you like run of the mill garbage and that’s fine. I however would like a little more. Could’ve easily cut out Jules making out with the wolf, the weird sexy dance after the basement, the stupid double mirror peeping Tom scene. Etc to actually I don’t know WORLD BUILD. 😂 Jesus you’re not hard to please huh?
@@mellysomethingcleverThe world was already built. We already knew the stories for the different monsters. We watched the movies they were in and tell their stories around the campfire. Besides putting anymore focus on any other monster would have also meant it had to be given a bigger role in the movie. That would have detracted from the point of the movie. It's not like Thirteen Ghost where all of the ghosts are already an important part, most of the monsters in the movie don't matter, the only exceptions being the zombie family and the mermen. The ballerina and the stand in for Pinhead kind of do too, but not so much they can't be easily switched with a different monster.

I always loved this movie, not because it was good, but because it always felt like it was a lot deeper than what we got to see. I would've loved for the movie to go in depth about the ghosts.

What I thought 2 wanted 2 really know his back story
Or……hear me out.. maybe it’s because Matthew put him in the cage
Could even be that she might've reminded him of his wife. Even as an enraged ghost, I'd be pretty chill too if someone came along who even partially resembled a person I used to care for.
@@WhoIsKe😂😂

Saaame, that’s what made me upset the first time I saw it
Cabin in the woods was like a spiritual succession to this movie for me.....
Wasnt it meant to be a sacrifice for love? Dennis was a sacrifice for redemption which is selfish in a small way
@@scottball2796I mean a sacrifice for love is selfish as well.
I got that, too
He also told the lawyer he was checking the breakers, and was killed, namely his back broken, by the guy known as The Breaker.
I see what you mean, but isn’t capturing the ghosts, even if for a selfish reason, an overall positive outcome? Now they’re stuck in the house and can’t hurt anyone.
@@GLORIOUSCHONK That is actually awesome, I can't believe it hadn't clicked in my head until reading your comment.
Matthew Lillard is literally the best. He chews the god damned scenery in this movie, making it a guilty pleasure movie for me. I love him ❤
As a kid when my parents brought this DVD home in a box from a garage sale the cover scared me.
I agree with GG on the flaws, but it just gives me a feeling no other movie does.
if it was made now with an amazing horror director imagine the masterpiece we could’ve gotten? but also i love the actors in the original so much 🤪
"High tech" lol the glasses were part of the 1960s film!!! They gave you red 3d glasses at the theater and without them you couldn't see the ghosts.
@@16driver16 you could see them, just not very well. you could remove them with the blue lense though

As a sister QueenB, I agree! 😄👍
I saw the same video. It was so thorough and well made. Definitely game me chills and added to the movie.

I figured that out too! We're all so clever.
We need a series about the backstory of each ghost

@@Goblintommaybe how they were captured ? That’s a good thought

The backstories of each ghost is scarier than the entire movie.
You’d think a movie named thirteen ghosts would spend most of the time on the ghosts. I love movies that have interesting character designs that tie into the lore. I would have been cool for it to be the focus.
The way you trash talk Bobby had me laughing so hard this morning. Thank you so much for this 😂
Omg I replayed that at least 5 times, I laughed so hard at that my goodness he is so funny
I'm dying of laughter with the parts playing the dad. Is it wrong I went back and watched just those parts over again. And over again. I'm crying from laughing so hard.
Been a fan for too long for me to not donate a little bit. Love your content, MistaGG, you deserve a million subs and more!

The jokes towards Bobby are hilarious. Especially the subtle stares you do when he’s talking as if you were the dad kills me 😂💀
The absolutely lethal roast of Bobby at the end would have been enough to have the kid change places with his Mom's un-aliving 💀💀💀
I also thought he was the “13th” ghost because of that sacrifice

This used to be one of my favorites when I was younger
Omg same!
Yes! I instantly clicked when I saw it was new upload from GG haha Tony Shalhoub for the win xD
DC? the garbage facility? nah I dont need this movie ruined
I did the same thing!
I also like the detail of the jackal being afraid of fire thus why he was afraid of the flares
I’m so glad Matthew Lillard is coming back to horror this year, I can’t wait to see him in the FNAF movie
This movie completely terrified me as a kid. This and Ghost Ship haunted me for years, and I love seeing just how goofy both of those movies really are now.
Mathew Lillard is a king man, honestly he is probably the reason i love the scooby doo live action 2000 movies
this clearly took a ton of work. and it shows. great video, great jokes, good edits, 36 mins and no spots to skip through.
This is the earliest movie i can think of that gave me nightmares.
Even now, today, it's still unnerving to me
Btw while i fully agree we need more ghosts, in this ghost movie. the editing of the ghosts movement is what makes the ghosts scary. The jittery jumps with the flashes builds anxiety and looks unnatural.
You can see they slow down the cuts when you need to see the action but it speeds up when theres unnecessary movements. Its actually genius, the director is the idiot who decided not to show the ghosts
i've never agreed with someone so aggressively lmao this is perfect
this movie is delicious garbage😂
I loved this movie as a teen, I love it even more as an adult. It has a special place in my heart

he will always be Stu from Scream to me, i only learned he played Shaggy like,,, 2 years ago, idk why i never made that connection. which was weird bc Stu was one of my biggest teen crushes lol
You explained all my feelings of this movie perfectly. I think a mini series with each ep focusing on each ghost would be phenomenal 😭
They again left a lot to be craved because it’s mostly left to a cgi blob fight with the elevators and an Easter egg of a white board.
They went the easiest route possible with it.
Jesus you’re not hard to please huh?
Seriously, can we get a mini-series with these ghost stories?!# These backstories are fantastic

The guy who played the jackal was a coworker of mine at a restaurant in a smallish town in Ontario years ago, around the time that movie came out.
