  • Sealing alcohol ink with varnish and UV protection on paintings and ceramics.
    Most talked about when it comes to varnish and UV protection is Kamar and krylon.
    I’ve never tried it myself but I only hear good things about these products. Sadly many talk about them like they are the only thing you can use to protect your alcohol ink, which is sad because many can’t by them in their country and then end up spending a lot of money on shipping.
    But luckily there are MANY other brands that you can use. And like I mentioned in the video molotow is one of my favorites.
    Which ever varnish you choose to try, just make sure that it is water based and has UV protection in it.
    Varnishing alcohol ink with UV protection is an absolute must when it comes to ink.
    There where so many things about this topic I didn't know when I first started with ink, and I had a hard time finding the answer to all my questions.
    So I thought I would share some of the things I have learned over the years about sealing alcohol ink. Like I said in the video - I haven't tried every varnish out there. So this is just me showing you some of my favorite varnishing products and some tips on how I use them.
    Please feel free to share your knowledge and experiences on sealing alcohol ink on paintings, ceramics, coasters etc. so that we can all learn from each other. If you have knowledge and information on varnish or resin that you have tried ( with good or bad results) please leave a comment below

    Just a tip to reduce dust. I have 3 to 4 long flat plastic containers that I leave permenantly closed when not in use then when it comes to varnishing, I lay my tiles and/or canvas on the lid, spray , then cover with bottom of container. Works well at keeping dust to a minimum.

    Thank you so much Randi. Hreat tutorial, beautifully explained. I managed to order your spray here in Germany online. I found Amazon far too expensive this time 🤫.
    Cant wait until it arrives - I found it difficult in getting something appropiate to use like your remmington. I finally found a heat gun extra for arts and crafts. So am finally propperly set up and almost ready to go! You have been a real gem in helping me get everything together. Your valuable tips, friendlyness and expertise knowledge has been a solid mass of help for me. Thank uou do much Randi. Much love and appreciation,

    I learned so much from this video thank you so much for sharing. I have resin coated alcohol ink painted coasters and my only tip would be to remember to seal the alcohol ink before pouring on the resin. I was really new with resin and inks at the time and I figured the resin would be a sufficient enough seal but unfortunately the chemicals and the resin reacted with the inks and some of them were completely ruined and for some of them the colors completely faded away. I've used the Kmar varnish and UV protection sprays both work amazing but can be hard to find where I live. Thank you for sharing some other brands that I can look for. Good to have options!

    • @randihart5731
      @randihart5731  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Randi, you are so wonderful! I have been working on alcohol ink sealing recently, using the Krylon UV & Kamar varnish. I also bought Brite-Tone to seal mugs. The Brite-Tone peeled off the mugs at the rim of some of the mugs, I am going to assume it was due to the humidity being high when I sprayed the Krylon products that the Brite-Tone didn't adhere to the varnish. If anyone has any insight to why this happened, I would be so grateful. I won't sell an item or painting that has flaws of this kind. Thank you for always sharing your wisdom and experiences with us! ♥♥♥

    • @randihart5731
      @randihart5731  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Kris ☺️ and you’re welcome. Sorry about the mugs…. Although I haven’t tried brite tone, high humidity could definitely have had something to do with. Im just guessing here, but could it maybe have something to do with how thick your coats of brite tone was….. maybe to thick…..🤷‍♀️
