If we have one good takeaway from this series is that Matthew Knies is going to be a special player. The kid played the hardest of anyone on the forward group. Had a tough first game or two but played very well the last number of games.
Best player of the entire bunch.

Rielly is also elite at missing his defensive assignment. He was the only player in the arena that was a -2 in a 2-1 game. That's impressively bad. Tavares has one year left on his contract but they are stuck with Rielly for 6 more years.

45 years old. Been watching leafs for 41 years. So many chokes over the years. I honestly didn't get to hyped for game 5. I slept through game 6 till 5 minutes left in game. And honestly rewatching game 5 and 6 without 34 and 35 was probably the best defensive coverage I've seen from any Leaf team in well over 15 years. Did I hold out hope for a miracle in game 7? Yes. They had there chances and typical Leaf hockey give up a quick goal to tie the game after going up in the 3rd. I was yelling at the tv after they scored for Keene to call a timeout. Because you damn well know the leafs were gonna start scrambling in the defensive end and give up the lead. Any other team you keep momentum and carry on. But he should have a called a timeout after going up. Overtime was just par for how defensive breakdowns have constantly killed Leaf seasons of the past. Coach and Prez have to go. Unfortunately stuck with crap no trades for another year. So see yas all next spring for another ground hog day as a Leaf fan.. aghhh why do I do this to myself. Go Oilers Go I guess

Domi gave 100% every shift, and it shows. He's gotta stay. Nylander stepped up, produced in both this and last post season. Nylander, Knies, domi, Woll. Best players of post season. Marner was barely noticable. Non existent. Incredible talent, but he's gotta go

Exactly. Its easy and lazy to blame goaltending and Samsonov. The leafs inability to score has been the main issue for years. That and the pp always dries up come playoffs. 1/21 on the pp was the difference

i'm not a leafs fan by i was cheering for the leafs in this series - from an outsider - the leafs don't really seem to know how to score, they move the puck well, but they either wait too long to shoot or they just shoot just for the sake of shooting....one thing that really struck me as odd is how little they would aim for for the high corners...they had some good breaks in this series (not breakaways, but good breaks) and not once did they raise the puck
the other thing about this series - way too much monkey business going on with leafs players in and out of the lineup - schittman is a bahstin boy, kindda makes you wonder

Who even cares anymore? You'd think losing game 7 in overtime would leave you hurt or upset, but when a team does it 6 times in 8 years you just shrug it off, like its normal. That should never happen ever. When pasta scored there was no emotion, only silence and acceptance. It feels like we will never be rewarded. Hoefully sheldon, brendan and a few players leave including Marner.

There is nothing wrong with Tavares. It's the team under this coaching staff that is not utilizing him to his full potential. Under this coaching staff Tavares skates around 5 on 5, wins many faceoffs and puck battles all for nothing because none of these players are on his level accept Matthews and Nylander, and the rest of them rarely try to set Johnny up for goals especially 5 on 5 but even so on the Powerplay.

I have to say as a native Montrealer I get a somewhat sadistic kick out of watching the Hockey Night in Canada crew doing cartwheels to ceaselessly try and put a positive spin on a team that chokes year in and year out.
Trade Rielly and Marner without hesitation. Rielly on the ice for both goals he's been a leaf since 2013. Resign Eddy and Domi without hesitation.
McCabe, Knies, Tuzzi, Domi and Big Willy showed some major heart in this series. We need more grit. Marner, Samsonov dont have it. Keefe should find someplace else to go also.

Pasta was Marner's man. And yeah, I thought Rielly was bad all series. He was a far cry from the Rielly we watched last year against Tampa.
JT is making 11 million a year. If all he’s doing is winning faceoffs then he for sure needs to go. He never should have been a leaf much less the captain.
I have said it for the last 5 years, Morgan Reilly is not a #1 dman. He should be playing 2nd pairing at most and for sure not running the top power play unit. His puck moving skills are awful and he is often out of position allowing for too many high danger chances.
Leafs were 1/21 on the power play this series and scored all of 12 goals. They deserve to go home

If this was the first time this has happened, I wouldn't be upset.. but given its happened the past 9 years its time for a change...We are not "right there"...this is round 1.. Right there would be making the 2nd round constantly, closing out series in 5-6 games, and maybe a conference/Stanley final or two. The one time we actually crossed that "right there" hump we lost in 5 the next round.. Its time for real change.. it will suck to lose some guys but it will pay off...learn from history or we are doomed to repeat it. This is YOUR prime...don't waste it.. re-tool the team, win a cup, and spend the rest of your lives as living legends.

Plot Twist: Shannahan keeps his job, the whole core stays in tact only firing keefe on the premise of a "glimpse of a team that showed promise in two games after 10 years". Plus it's easier to replace a coach.
Like what the hell happened here, there's no way the entire team decided to start playing the last 10 mins of the third that way without some direction to do so. I've never seen so many pucks just tossed away like the puck was a grenade, who told them to play half the period like it was the final 10 seconds of a game they were winning. alley oop to nobody, alley oop to nobody, board pass to nobody...they handed the game to Boston.
they played shit all night they got a break when Willy scored ,how many times did they ice the puck .And how many times did Boston get the TV time out with the offensive zone face off.That was crazy I cant believe that they never capitalized on that .Sad they lost , but Florida would hand the leafs their asses ,just like they will do with Boston. In my opinion Nylander is the best player out of the core 4 in every playoff they have played. Sammy you're a good backup, but I feel you could have done something different on that last shot. That aside I can't see myself watching the Leafs next year with Keefe behind the bench with his limited coaching abilities. Once again he switched the lines up instead of playing the hot lines. We need a coach with more vision vor a win.
Next year I would like to see a coaching change, Samson not a starter in goal or not even there, and bring in some of these hot new prospects we have been hearing about all year. Nice try though guys, in the end just another game 7.

That was a terrible defensive marking gap. Pasternak is a right winger. Generally, that is a left D-man's mark. This is good for the Leafs. I am glad they are not going further. They need to make some real changes to the roster. Now the new leafs GM has seen what this team is and what pieces to change. Start with Sammy and the D-CORE. It would be nice to see them get rid of the Tavares contract and add some top notch D man and a better goalie than Sammy.
Keep Benoit McCabe and edmundson on the back end. Everyone else walks or traded

I hope Keefe has coached his last game for Toronto. Tavaras and Marner basically did nothing the entire series. Willy and Auston missed half the series injured as well as our star goal tender Joseph. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Changes need to be made for this team to ever be a champion again. I have watched this team for over 45 years now. Its tough being a Leaf fan. I would like to see them win at least once while Im still on this earth.

The defence played their hearts out and Woll made saves when called upon, but it was a collective effort. He didn’t by any means “steal” games for us.

It's a never ending cycle. Clean house. Shannahan, Keefe, Tavares and Marner. Start there. It's time for hardball. This grp can stick together all they want but they are built to fail and that is the bottom line. It's been said since day 1. You cannot win with so much money tied into one area of a team. Build a "Team".... a well balanced machine. They played very well at times for sure but again it's all for not. The amount of cap spent on offense is inexcusable especially if you're team cannot score. Very proud of the effort. For real and loved a lot about this grp. The physicality and heart was there for the most part. But you have to have all on board and when one of your best players continues to be a ghost when the going gets tough you have no chance! Tough pill to swallow.

FACTS:
1) Jeremy Swayman is an elite all star goal tender.
2) The Leafs had injuries to 4 key players: Marner, Nylander, Woll and Matthews. The Bruins were healthy.
3) Sammy played excellent in game 7. Swayman played better.
4) The Leafs lost by a fluke goal in OT of game 7. Either team could have won this game.
5) Officiating for a change was good. No complaints.
6) The Leafs power play is horrific.
7) Jake McCabe, Simon Benoit & Matthew Knies were rock stars this series.
8) Year in year out William Nylander is one player who excels in the playoffs.
9) The Leafs palyed excellent defense in the last 3 games.
10) I hope Boston beats the Panthers.
Both Boston & Toronto are great teams in this 32 league. Had the Leafs been healthy and Woll played each game I feel Toronto would have won the series. I do not want the core blown up. Leafs coaching staff should be fired. My jury is out on Keefe. I'd support firing or keeping him, but the others should go. I do NOT support trading away all our draft picks for rentals. We have hardly any in the 2025 draft.

I never actually played the sport so I don't know a lot about coverage responsibilities. But when I see a guy like Pastrnak come over the boards, right in front of me, to chase a dumped in puck, if I'm Marner I get on my horse and get after him instead of coasting. To me that's the difference between the two teams. They seem to play like Keefe's personality.
If Joseph Woll played this game I think we win. Sammy’s teammates won’t say it but they feel it.

Im proud of the way the guys battled for the last 3 games in this series but its the same old issues. Scoring more than 2 goals once in the last 14 or 15 playoff games and 1/21 on the pp isn't nearly good enough. The coach, president and core of the team needs changes. Enough is enough.
