The amazing Iwan Rheon and Lucy May Barker singing DDS/Blue Wind at the final matinee. WE DID NOT FILM. WE DO NOT OWN. Whoever filmed this, you have my eternal debt.
Moritz is definitely my favourite character in this musical, across OBC and international performances. He's just so well written and consistently well performed.
Years later, still the best acting of any Spring Awakening cast I've seen. Just the amount of expression and thought into every line of dialogue. Wish I could go back in time and see this again.
I don't think I can really compare 'favorite Moritzes' because every person portraying him take him in a different way. It's almost like comparing different characters, so I don't. Giving all Moritzes major props.
I found out about Lucy May Barker when I auditioned for a place at Lincoln College's 'BTEC Level 3 Performing Arts' course with a Spring Awakening song. When one of the tutors, mentioned HER in my interview and that she knew Lucy Barker. I was WOW! I knew singing 'All That's Known' would pay off!
I was watching Misfits and he looked so so so familiar because Spring Awakening one of my favorite shows for a long time, I remember seeing a man that looked like Iwan in a preview of SA and I was like SIMON... MORITZ.... WAIT
I see what you mean. However, I think it's best to point out that this is the actual original tempo for this song, as exemplified by the American Cast Recording with John Gallager Jr.: th-cam.com/video/mJtjgFF9l-4/w-d-xo.html But that's probably from when the show was still in previews: th-cam.com/video/oMbiwOM5rbM/w-d-xo.html (at 1:08:24) Or maybe not: th-cam.com/video/uOrQXhLZpag/w-d-xo.html (at 13:40) Maybe they just speed up the tempo during the original Broadway production, to save time spent on the other songs and scenes in this show, and it just stuck with this show, as well all the future productions of this show(Like th-cam.com/video/g8rZnSgW-OY/w-d-xo.html for instance), ever since. By the way, I just found this recording of the same guy here, singing at the current, faster, tempo: th-cam.com/video/9UUAG1bkpAo/w-d-xo.html
I'm playing moritz in a non musical version, this scene is just amazing, wish I could do it like this, I'm bitting my elbows with this character, its so amazing and complex
i think that people who haven't seen the show before don't understand that there are LITERALLY only a few "joking lines" for comedy. they can't tell them apart. i saw a video where people laughed when Melchior got hit in class by the teacher. they don't get it :[
That totally just happened at my college's production. We all laughed at the fact the audience laughed a that part because right after they all become silent and start to cry. The Adults had some funny lines in ours but aside from that, its been awkward laughs.
@OctaviaTheMusician It's called "playing the opposite." An oft-used technique, it happens sometimes in a scene where two people are having a fight, they play the love, or in a love scene, they will play it as though they hate each other. Also, the dialogue isn't meant to be a complete downer. There are moments of lightness. On top of that, the English concept of humor is different than the American.
@Lempp1 That's just the style of the show. They have handheld mics throughout. Personally, I think it adds a whole other level to the performance. It's different.
he's so good. even though it's so strange to hear his accent come out when it does in the song; i'm so used to john gallagher jr.'s voice. yeah, ilse's voice is a little... brassy? eh. not as much of a fan.
I don't get this. It seems like they slowed both parts of the song down (I'm okay with that), but it doesn't work as Blue Wind is so much slower than Sadness. Also, what is Ilse doing dancing and doing rockish movements. I swear she used to be much softer and her part was more ballady, that's what made the final part so haunting in my opinion.
He's okay. I liked John Gallagher Jr. better. Maybe it's because he was in the first performance I saw of this. But I also think he portrayed the character's desperation better. You could hear it in his voice. Iwan kind of sounds like he's just going through the lines...
Meh. I don't buy Iwan as Moritz. I feel like they slowed down the song so that he could actually hit the pitches better because that's what happens sometimes. I also feel like this is rehearsed I'm not feeling it emotionally from either. :/ Blake Bashoff to me is better.
his voice just makes me melt.. the way he portrays the character seems more tragic that others, and his voice seems so deeply sad
HOW did I, who's absolutely crazy for both musicals and Game of Thrones not know this existed????
OR THE MISS FITS
A bit hard to beleive this is the same actor who plays Ramsay Snow.
Holy shit I thought I recognized him
I know Im kinda off topic but do anyone know a good site to watch new series online ?
@Chris Jaiden i use Flixzone. You can find it by googling =)
@Beau Dwayne Yup, been watching on flixzone for months myself =)
@Beau Dwayne thanks, I went there and it seems to work :) I really appreciate it!
iwan and aneurin still make this my favourite theatre play of all time, the talent's just superb.
Moritz is definitely my favourite character in this musical, across OBC and international performances. He's just so well written and consistently well performed.
MY BOY SIMON
Barry
Years later, still the best acting of any Spring Awakening cast I've seen. Just the amount of expression and thought into every line of dialogue. Wish I could go back in time and see this again.
of all the people I've seen with it, iwan so far is the only person to actually pull off the sticking-straight-up hair
omg... I totally saw this production. I cannot believe I saw The Bastard in Spring Awakening. Hooooly shit.
Thank you gorgeous people for putting this up xxx
Iwan Rheon -- Moritz & Simon. Life just got great.
Crazy!! While watching Misfits, I was thinking that he totally reminded me of Moritz.
Wow, he's such a good Moritz! I must say though, I have never seen a Moritz with hair that high. Its awesome....as is he!
Iwan never ceases to amaze me.
I don't think I can really compare 'favorite Moritzes' because every person portraying him take him in a different way. It's almost like comparing different characters, so I don't. Giving all Moritzes major props.
dying at how perfect this is, oh my god.
Goosebumps.
This is the best performance I've seen
Omg i think i have falling even more in love, not only does he have a body to die for he can sing!
Get it BARRY!
I just fell even more in love with Iwan....
She sings this song so beautifully!!! :)
Wow! Never thought I'd find a Moritz & Ilse who are as talented as the OBC
Lucy May Barker is so brilliant. I'm sad I live in the US and didn't get to see this cast.
wow i.. i'm pleasantly surprised
I was watching Misfits and he looked so so so familiar because Spring Awakening one of my favorite shows for a long time, I remember seeing a man that looked like Iwan in a preview of SA and I was like
SIMON... MORITZ.... WAIT
I found the British John Gallagher JR!
Him being able to sing just makes him even more perfect.
I like this version, but why are the West End versions of the songs so much slower than they are on Broadway?
I see what you mean. However, I think it's best to point out that this is the actual original tempo for this song, as exemplified by the American Cast Recording with John Gallager Jr.:

Or maybe not:

I didn't know he was in Spring Awakening! Awsome :D
I was there! IT WAS AMAZING!
i think that people who haven't seen the show before don't understand that there are LITERALLY only a few "joking lines" for comedy. they can't tell them apart. i saw a video where people laughed when Melchior got hit in class by the teacher. they don't get it :[
His hair is funny =))))) Love his hair in Misfits more, it makes him so cute.
That totally just happened at my college's production. We all laughed at the fact the audience laughed a that part because right after they all become silent and start to cry. The Adults had some funny lines in ours but aside from that, its been awkward laughs.
i don't know why so many people prefer the american version, this is excellent!
@OctaviaTheMusician It's called "playing the opposite." An oft-used technique, it happens sometimes in a scene where two people are having a fight, they play the love, or in a love scene, they will play it as though they hate each other. wow they were fantastic.
love him! his hair is stupid, though.
He do be having a cure head tho
Oh good god i'm freaking out.. Barry can sing
He's like a handsome shark.
Iwan just nails this.
hes amazing
Ramsay Snow
Nerding About Simon Bellamy
Cindy Muzio YES! :D
" Whoever filmed this, you have my eternal debt."
Ramsay knows how to sing... did he do this to Theon
@Lempp1 That's just the style of the show. They have handheld mics throughout. Personally, I think it adds a whole other level to the performance. It's different.
i love him so hard
they didn't release a soundtrack? I would love to have these cast recording
this is so surprising if you watched him in misfits first! so good!
I love his accent.
estoy shockeada. Es el.mas talentoso del.mundo
simon. omg. SIMON CAN SING.
@declanser my mistake, sorry. blake ddnt do bway, he did the USA tour with lea michele
Ramsay Bolton sings😱😍
I LOVE HIM. at least hes not shy here ey? ;D
Why did people laugh when he said "Enough!"??? This scene gets me every time ;_;
Annie 93 well it's kind of abrupt when you don't know what's going on. Also, up until this point, Moritz had been more of a comic relief character.
HOLY FUCK
MARRY ME IWAN :-)
I loved John's Moritz but I think Iwan is my favorite portrayal of Moritz.
He's great but I liked Gallagher better cause he has that raspy tone when he speaks and he portrays it a lot better.
This guy wears the hair the best.
Really reminds me of The Addams Family...is it supposed to?
whens sprimng awakening trveling again to boston mass or have they discontinued the play. i saw it before i wanna see it again.
@LizzieAldrige What is your opinion on John Gallagher, Jr. and Blake Bashoff's versions?
I always wondered what Ramsay Boltons childhood was like. Now I know.
I think he can say that he has the tallest Moritz hair, that's for sure.
So who does own this? Because I'd pay good money for a copy of this in full.
@allysmusic14 my thoughts exactly
BARRY!
@SuperWhitts They probably also laughed because he said it in kind of a funny way, it didn't sound very serious haha.
I want him. In my pant. Right now!
@jmridingred Agreed.
he's great. but the song is slower here isnt it?
he's so good. even though it's so strange to hear his accent come out when it does in the song; i'm so used to john gallagher jr.'s voice.
yeah, ilse's voice is a little... brassy? eh. not as much of a fan.
Moritz/Iwan gets it fucking done. he's so enraged.
simon;3
Ramsay Bolton you are not fooling Me Man....LOL..talented villain actor
I don't get this. It seems like they slowed both parts of the song down (I'm okay with that), but it doesn't work as Blue Wind is so much slower than Sadness.
Also, what is Ilse doing dancing and doing rockish movements. I swear she used to be much softer and her part was more ballady, that's what made the final part so haunting in my opinion.
HOLD UP IS THIS YOUR MAN FROM MISFITS?
'tis
He's okay. I liked John Gallagher Jr. better. Maybe it's because he was in the first performance I saw of this. But I also think he portrayed the character's desperation better. You could hear it in his voice. Iwan kind of sounds like he's just going through the lines...
Over-diction is a serious problem that seems to be attached to Spring Awakening. US Touring Cast, anyone?
Moritz/Iwan gets it fucking done.
Ramsay damn Bolton
Wow, he's better than the Broadway Moritz!
Why do all of the members of the London cast look cracked out on stage? Their eyes are all bloodshot/red. lol
NO BARRY JUST NO
JOHN GALLAGHER JR. FTW
Quite like the guy playing Moritz, don't like the girls interpretation of Ilse at all.
i love blake bashoff who was moritz on bway but iwan did a much better job, much stronger voice too :)
So talented. But even here, I find him a little threatening. Maybe I just can't shake Ramsay Snow.
Meh. I don't buy Iwan as Moritz. I feel like they slowed down the song so that he could actually hit the pitches better because that's what happens sometimes. I also feel like this is rehearsed I'm not feeling it emotionally from either. :/ Blake Bashoff to me is better.
