The cast recording was recorded before the Broadway run. During the Broadway preview, Steven Stater (book and lyricist) changed some of the lyrics, including The Song of Purple Summer, and removing all Ships and Pirates references since they replaced There Once was a Pirate with The Guilty Ones
@@rbishop95 I love the entire score, but this song, for me is a complete standout. The harmonies and beautiful blend of the voices, the lyrics, the arrangement. Everything.
@@rbishop95 in your opinion, but in the view of many others (myself included) this is a beautiful and powerful song, and was perfect for the Oliviers. Sorry you need lots of swearing and an up-beat tempo to be able to enjoy music, but I’m afraid you’re on your own there

Often times I feel like west end casts kill it better than us here in that states...
And whenever that appears to be the case, often times it's at least partially due to their Shakespearean training and traditions.
