Really find your videos interesting! The last explanation about finishing down the target line, combined with watching you use just arm muscles (no loose arm and minimal torso rotation) seems a little contradictory to other explanations with the arm as a whip and finishing in your left pocket (for example TorqVB). What am I missing?
@felixlennartsson6234 on the beach, raw power is not really the goal for me so i dont like a "whipping" motion. I prefer controlled power with max over spin. This is why i teach it different. Plus on the beach you jump much lower so your arm swing needs to be faster to be able to hit at the top. That's another factor for me. I want my students to focus more of the big muscle groups to hit the ball. Lmk if this makes sense. 🤙🏽
Thanks for a really explanatory answer! Then it makes more sense! Trying to re-learn my armswing because of pain around biceps when I turn forearm up, and learned from TorqVB that a whippy arm (instead of tense arm muscles) is more gentle to the shoulder. Do you agree? Or should I just do "your" armswing and get it closer to my body?
@@felixlennartsson6234 so in general, I try to stay away from any "whippiness" on the beach because it's harder to hit with max overspin (in my opinion). I try to help my students develop a smoother arm swing with continuous motion and no fast changes in direction (more like a freestyle swimming motion). To me, the tighter your drawback, the less you will have shoulder and elbow problems. But honestly, everyone is different, so you need to try it to see if it works for you and reduces your pain.
As a newish volleyball player who’s been playing for 3 years do you have any advice on how to switch to this new arm swing? I’m 5 ‘10 with a decent vertical but was taught the high bow and arrow. I’m constantly practicing this new arm swing /motion on the ground (mostly without a ball), but when I go to practice on the sand and start jumping I feel out of sorts. So I guess what I’m asking is, any drills to help when in the air? Thank you!
Yes they are coming. Sounds like you are not jumping to the right position. If you watch my video on mastering a low drawback, that might be helpful. I have another video coming soon that will probably help you too
Yeah I learned that I am not jumping into the right position the hard way ha. I’ll keep watching that video you said and keep working at it! Looking forward to all of your future videos Really appreciate it! This is the only page for “smaller” beach volleyball athletes, so your work is really appreciated!
Excellent exercise. Been trying to incorporate circular swing into my jump serve as well. Seems to be not as powerful, but more accurate.
Solid advice. Very similar to expert freestyle swimming pullback
Yes. Exactly. 👍🏼
Hey Coach,Check some Videos from André Stein - Blocker Form Brasil. His arm swimg looks familiar to this
Yes i noticed that. His partner too. They both have similar motions.

@felixlennartsson6234 i do like torso rotation, but find that over rotation through the ball takes away from accuracy and over spin

If you cant jump to the right position, everything falls apart.
Yeah I learned that I am not jumping into the right position the hard way ha.
