I have a question. If I know I need to re-proof my jacket, is it not better to just put the waterproofer into the fabric softener compartment and tech wash in the detergent compartment? I'm quite confused by this process because the washing machine will rinse my clothes after washing them, so if I put the waterproofer into the laundry detergent compartment, it should just get rinsed from my clothes rather than staying in the fabric

I just put damp garment on a hanger in garage, spray the bejesus outa them, and walk away. I would like to know the reasons behind,,,,why the laying out tea towels, spreading jacket out, dabbing etc.

It's just best practice, so you don't ruin your worktop etc.

Water-soluble reproofing is never as effective as doing it from a compressed spray can, where the hydrocarbons are dissolved in propellant (eg. Toko textile proof).

      That doesn't sound very eco-friendly...

@@wildgingerruns That's true and it's bad to breathe.
Only recommended for soft shells when the DWR is completely gone.

true, but as nikwax and grangers is all thats available in this neck of the woods (GOV more or less banned pfc's or whatever they called) so if i was you id stock up on them cans. As a lot of people still have a bottle of MEK in the garage and that was banned 35 years ago.
