I dont remember which game it was, but it was not possible to turn it off in the options so I had to alter the files and do some research beforehand. Worst feature in games
I like this effect because it showed me that I was playing a next gen console when I bought my 360. Before that point the only thing in motion was the tears in my eyes while playing every game at 10 FPS in my pre historical notebook.
I think I meant natural in the sense of camera movement when you’re looking around-like turning your head fast in real life. My example probably isn’t the best at explaining what I meant
I like motion blur because unless I'm playing at 144fps+ I get flickering. Its not my monitor cause I have consistently been able to notice flicker on different panels.
I agree with most of the video, but what I learned while wanting to add motion blur to my games is that, the motion blur is supposed to be very slight so the natural motion blur your eyes do are on top of the artificial one. This can be interesting because you don't see actual motion but pixel changing colors. Another issue I see in this video is that for all the good uses of motion blur (like in the hellblade part) it's not actually motion blur (at least its not the most visible blur effect). Also I would congrats Doom Eternal for letting us chose if its activated or not, but also the amount, since very low motion blur meets my first point and is one of the best in-between, in the end YOU get to choose, and I'd go with no MB or if available, only a slight bit. Idk for VR tho.
Dying light 1... The music makes me happy and i completed it with a Friend that likes to Play Coop games with me... sadly he doesnt want to replay it :(
i was playing The Last of Us on PC when i noticed that the entire world is so crispy and detailed, just when i move it all ends in a blurry mess where i can read nothing Thanks for the Video, you and your Buddy did great xD
I always turn off motion blur why would I want less sharper pictures while turning? And not only that it makes me dizzy and gives me motion sickness right away.
7:15 I think that completely defeats the purpose because why would MB even be a thing Not everyone has fast hardware. Not everyone has a bazillion FPS. But since our eyes don't "generate" MB in "still frames" (aka 30/24 FPS (aka the FPS used in movies)), there is no natural MB. MB is used for low frame rates (30/24, sometimes 60) For higher frame rates (60+) MB is not needed and makes everything an unnecessary blurry vomit enducing mess. I think MB is a brilliant effect necessary for consoles. And although I have a high end PC, I still prefer MB to sometimes be on in *racing* games. Surprisingly good at making the car feel fast! I assume you haven't played on low FPS so try it for yourself, play on 24FPS with MB on/off and see the difference. The best game where MB is expertly implemented is definitely drive club. Checks all the boxes! 30FPS, Hyper realistic, intensifies feeling of speed, etc.
That’s very true! I’ve noticed it much more after getting a faster computer than I’ve had in the past, so that’s probably an issue because of how smooth it runs now.
need for speed most wanted 2005 did motion blur well haha, it was an effect around the car instead of your whole screen. made it faster without making your actual vision a blurry mess everytime you steer
@@TheJollyWampa i think the first games that did that that i played were doom 4 and hat in time, both of which had separate camera, object and radial blur options, and hat in time being a cartoon game really benefits from the motion blur for objects and radial blur from explosions
@@Elektrokardiogramm What's wrong with a higher frame rate? you you get newer frames every refresh + screen tearing doesn't happen in most games so it's pretty useless.
@@TheSockeye I haven't looked into it very much. My (un-researched) thought process is that there is no point in using more computing power to run games at a higher refresh rate than my monitor allows, as there would be no discernable difference.
while keeping your head still, look from the left of your monitor to your right. you will notice your eyes snap across rather than move smoothly now while keeping your head still track a moving dot on the monitor. you will notice your eyes track it smoothly. if for whatever reason you do not experience this, your biology needs to be studied... motion blur works as if you are daydreaming and your eyes are constantly out of focus. its garbage. and disturbs visibility in games that arent racing games.
Yooo, thought it was only me that despises motion blur with a passion lol. To me it never looked good and most games I played it only tanked performance.
I haven't even started watching yet but I need to say. NONE OF MY FRIENDS NOTICE MOTION BLUR AND THEY SAY IT DOESN'T BOTHER THEM??!! HOW? I can't tell if I am jealous or disgusted they can live with it.
@@cartoonhead9222 ffs YOU used to play at 30fps for a large portion of your life on ps4 and prior. stop acting like it is ridiculous for people to be playing 30 fps with motion blur when that used to be the only option for most games right up into the ps4 generation itself
Yes we are a minority lol, everywhere on internet I see people hating on it, but me personally, I like to use motion blur whenever I have a lower frame rate, usually 60fps and lower, it just makes the games look more smooth, especially on higher hz monitors.
Does motion blur even save any processing power or memory? I was under impression that it is a post process effect that actually adds computation. Temporal anti-aliasing (another "great" feature that most games have today) can save resources by sampling effects across different frames.
Everybody gangsta until they make you cannot turn off motion blur without turning other thing off
Gammer does your not sense make

Worst feature in games
ima gammer
Motion Blur, Chromatic Aberration, Depth of Field = All disabled, all games.
The 3 commandments
What's awesome is that TAA also causes minor motion blur effect and in some games you can't even turn it off :)

camera motion blur sucks but slight object motion blur can look good
the natural motion blur doesn't work on screens as screens are stationary objects

motion blur; depth of field: no, non,não, 아니,

I turn it off everywhere too, except arcade racers.

Hard agree, needs disabling every time.
in fairness when they apply motion blur only to objects that are moving fast it can look decent, it's camera blur that looks horrible
Very true! I didn’t dive into that as much but the blur I dislike the most is when the camera’s turning and blurs my vision

motion blur and vsync is always turned off
Why vsync? Doesn't it just make sure your framerate doesn't run above your monitor's refresh rate?
