  • A Song from the CD Heralds, Harpers, and Havoc, by Mercedes Lackey. About Talia getting her psionic Gifts under control with the help of Kris . I don't know who sung it, though.
    Lyrics:
    FUNDAMENTALS
    Lyrics: Mercedes Lackey Music: Kristoph Klover
    (Kris: Arrow's Flight)
    Ground and center; we begin
    Feel the shape inside your skin
    Feel the earth and feel the air-
    Ground and center; "how" and "where."
    Ground and center-don't just frown,
    Find the leaks and lock them down.
    Baby-games you never learned
    Bring you pain you never earned.
    Ground and center; do it, child
    If you'd tame that Talent wild-
    Girl, you learned it in your youth-
    Life's not fair, and that's the truth.
    Ground and center, once again;
    You're not finished-I'll say when.
    Ground and center in your sleep
    Ground and center 'till you weep.
    Ground and center; that's the way-
    You might get somewhere, someday.
    Yes, I know I'm being cruel
    And you're as stubborn as a mule!
    Ground and center, feel the flow
    Can you tell which way to go?
    Instinct's not enough, my friend-
    Make it reflex in the end.
    Ground and center; hold it tight-
    Dammit, greenie, that's not right!
    (Every tear you shed hurts me,
    But that's the way it has to be.)
    Ground and center; good, at last!
    Once again; grab hard, hold fast.
    Half asleep or half awake-
    Both of us know what's at stake.
    Ground and center; now it's sure;
    What you have now will endure,
    Forgive me what I had to do-
    Healing hurts-you know that's true.
    Ground and center; lover, friend-
    You won't break, but now you bend.
    Costly lesson, high the price-
    But you won't have to learn it twice!

    It's set when Talia is on her first Circuit with Herald Kris. Her very strong Empathic gift lets her sense and even shape the emotions of other people... however she was never correctly trained in its use: so she is inundated by other people's emotions, and also fears that she may be altering them without consciously realising this. Kris eventually realises the problem and teaches her how to properly shield her own mind and feelings.
    All *much* better told in Arrow's Flight...

    Took me years of practice to get the hang of it, but I did basically this in my meditation practice. I can ground and center in under a second in most circumstances. I don't even believe in the supernatural anymore, but it's a seriously useful skill.

      There is nothing supernatural to most magic. Everything is perfectly natural, provided you are not dealing with a charlatan.
      Grounding and centering , realigns your spine taking pressure off your hips ,(they are not for supporting your torso) You fix one small thing, dozens follow as a consequence.
      Is it magic that you can think better with the correct posture? Idiots discard hard learned tricks like that, just because some con artists use them.
      I suppose ,according to their reasoning ,we should all disarm since fire arms are used by criminals.

I started with guided meditation (qigong at first), later got into grounding & centering exercises, eventually went from needing 40 minutes to ground and center to under a second. No real secret. Just lots of practice.

    It's like being a telepath but with objects. By touching an item, if I'm not careful, I know it's name, what if anything is wrong with it, what it does, how it works, and how far I can push it's operational limits. All at once.

    Asperger syndrome is described as a fundamental lack of recognition of the social patterns inherent in society. Empathy serves as a coping mechanism for that. By Sensing the emotion put off by the person, you sometimes can pick up on the cue you missed in the body language, and cover that you don't understand what signals they are attempting to put out, or that you don't know yourself how to put forward those signals, by Sending those emotions directly with you Gift. It is VERY subtle...

    By control I mean it's easiest to listen to them. And this would be the "Named object" thing. The TV named Bob for example. To give an idea of what it's like, if I touch something unprepared, it's like a howling wind in my ears. If I'm grounded, centered, prepared for it, and I have the object's co-operation, it's like a song. I can actually make out what it wants. Or what it's trying to get across.

      Talia is aprojecting empath, (she can make you feel what she does) with low self esteem and self confidence. And she can read the emotions of others, including her partner/instructors (Kris) doubts about her. Also shehas never really learned to shield. They are isolated in a waystation by a massive blizzard, and he is bieng abrasive and triggers a killing rage in her. (which almost caused their Companions to attack each other)It took a long time to get her to calm down enough to regain some controle of herself. He is now teaching her proper and full controle. (Better late than never.)

    Well, you guys seem to be little bit nuts, so I'm going to share my nutish experience too, but I will keep it short. I tried to meditate once, I did not looked how to do it, because it's obvious in itself. You clear your mind off all thoughts first and second of all incoming sensory information. You basically are sleeping, but your presence of mind is still here. First time then I tried to meditate I felt like my body began to steam. I felt like my soul had began to boil in a pleasant way, like a water boiling is a good analogy. I was terrified and broke meditation instantly. Even though, I was curious and I tried again, same thing happening, but this time I tried to accelarate it. I tried it too brutally, I wanted to use brute force and that's why I believe I failed. Then I sensed that my concentration is slipping I simply let it go and I returned back all tense. All my muscles felt that they contracted themselves. Second thing I noticed is how quickly half a hour passed. It seemed for me like 5 mins at max, most of that time was spent into focusing yourself into damn meditation.
    In the end, I sought concentration and my mind remained focused for roughly 24 hours despite for me going to sleep and later waking up with same state of mind which I wanted to achieve.

    It works on anything inanimate. Machines, objects. It speaks. It tells me what I need to know immediately, plus if something comes up that it hasn't told me how to deal with, it'll walk me through it. For example, if I were to use it on the controls of a plane, I'd know what to use when, and which buttons to hit for what.

  • @elvnsword
    @elvnsword 13 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Speaking as an Empath, it can be a curse, but it can be a gift. Learn as Talia did to control it. Learn to Ground and Center, shield yourself, shield for those around you and for your own sanity's sake.
    Once you learn to do that it can be a great benifit to you, as most empath's I know are also at least borderline Asberger's syndrome... The empathy serves as a coping mechanism in a way.

      Depending on how sensitive you are determines how easy it it to shut others out. Good test is sit down in the grass grab but DON'T pull it out close your eyes take a deep breath if you can feel the blade of grasses energy you very strong empath if not you can learn to push it back easy. :-) just Picture something happy have that fill your mind embrace that happy moment. WOLA you will block out another's pain.. However if you can feel the energy in a blade of grass than i truly feel for you as making a shield Becomes an ordeal. An ordeal that Requires A LOT of practice and generally another Empath to take you through.

      Aren't we confusing basic human capabilities with wish to be special here? It's not hard to feel others suffering nor to see then his mind is somewhere else. More often than not, you can read people like an open book if you have very high EQ or in other words, social intellect. I always trust my instincts and first impressions since I cannot recall then they ever had failed me and having some knowledge which you could describe as ''beyond logic'' is more of hidden calculations done by your brain.
      So, what do you mean ''feeling energy''? You can always feel the beauty of a nature. I always loved to lay on the grass or put at least blanked on it (just hate random bug crawling through my skin). I can always feel energy being present then I'm in historical, meaningful places like in my link. It's normal from time to time to get overwhelming feeling of creepiness then you enter one or other building, but it's not because it's somehow magical. It's just complex sum of all pleasant parts working together, air, smells, birds which gives that feeling of mysticism or presence of something more that cannot be defined or grapsed.

      Hi Meg, you are not the only empath here. :-) Shutting it all out won't help I'm afraid, a part will always stay in the subconcious. But you can learn to deal with it. I'm afraid you'll have to take more time for yourself than others. Anything that makes you feel quiet inside helps. Just be carefull with yourself. And you can be all. Sensitive and tough. Yin and Yang. It's just on your own terms. A lot of people find it hard to understand it when the feelings of others "settle in your bones". They simply cannot relate. Everybody is sensitive or empathic to others in a certain amount, but it's hard to apreciate someone being more sensitive.

    • @leannanderson7173
      @leannanderson7173 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Okay, sweetie, since nobody else has, I'll do it.
      The character singing this is named Kris. He's a Herald of Valdemar, and he's singing it to Talia, a brand new Herald who just graduated. She has a very rare gift, the gift of empathy, and it's extremely important that she learn to control it, because she's what's known as Queen's Own Herald. In other words, she has a seat on the council and she has the queen's ear.
      The problem is that nobody at the Heralds Collegium figured out what Talia's gift was before she went on circuit for her internship, and she figured it out and heard rumors that she was misusing her gift just before setting out on the circuit ride with Kris. So she's been trying to hide it for nearly a year, and now they're stuck because of a blizzard, and he's finally figured out what's going on, so he's trying to teach her how to control it.
      This takes place in Arrow's Flight, which is the second book in the trilogy which is actually part of a much larger series, most of which are set in the kingdom of Valdemar. The one before it is Arrows of the Queen, and the one after is called Arrow's Fall. They're set after the Vows and Honor duology and before the stand-alone novel By the Sword.

      Not quite accurate. The Heralds knew what her Gift was. The problem is that Empathy is usually paired with Healing Gift, so Talia started spending time with Mind-Healers. She had instinctive control of her Gift, so the Healers and Heralds both thought the other group had trained her, when neither actually had.

      I know its very, very late but. Kris is tying to teach a badly trained Talia, (one set of instructors assumed the other set were teaching her controle) extremly powerful projecting empath to controle her power, after her instinctive (not trained) controle fails and her power goes wild. the tempo indicates the urgency, because her empathic ability is strong enough to kill.
