There are more the one clans of Malla dynasties in Nepal, the one you're referring to are of Mithila origin from southern Nepal who migrated to Nepal due to their kingdom's destruction by the Delhi sultanate, they are now part of the Newar ethnic group of Nepal. Khasa Malla's have a different origin and were already present in far western part of Nepal around the same time and now belong to the thakuri ethnic groups. There is a hestorical mention of an even older group of Malla's from western hills of Nepal during the period of king Manadeva along side the Kirats of the Eastern Hills. The word Malla means a Wrestler in Pali and Sanskrit this word was adopted as a title or to describe an attribute of a group of people during ancient times which in time developed into a rulers Moniker.

Nepalese already had prosperous civilizations when Tibetans were living nomadic and barbaric lives. Nepalese Himalayan foothills were far more suitable for settlements than dry tibetan plateau so most of the current Mongoloid race Nepalese ethnic groups bypassed Tibet and settled in Nepal after travelling from East or central Asia. Current Tibetan civilization is very new and just formed around 7th century after Buddhism and civilizational elements like scripts were introduced there
Gurungs are no Tibetian. Gurungs are Nakhi ethnic group from Yunan China. They were traders who traded with Tibet and India. There are nakhi people in Tibet too. But they are not ethnic tibetians.
I see that lot of people are debating whether the khas are tibetans or indo-europeans.
