The fuckin priest going "Oh, Jesus Christ!" when being shot always kills me 😂
Great line. He played Belloq in Raiders Of The Lost Arc.
👍✌️
Or the priest saying “Fuck off grasshopper”
@@UnlicensedOkieyeay most miss that and don't realise grasshopper is slang for copper.
@@Mean-bj8wp I mean
I didn’t know
Still funny 🤷🏼♂️🤣
It's the 'oh fuck off grasshopper!' that gets me.
“He’s not Jugde Judy and Executioner!” 😂😂😂
"I'm not jumping into anyone's grave!"
"Everybody and their mums is packing around here!"
"I was just about to pop off, actually!"
Practically every other line in this movie is foreshadowing, and I'm living for it!
"Take out all the little people, and you get to waltz off with the cuddly monkey!"
“Wanna be a big copper in a small town? Fuck off up the model village.”
"Decaffeinated?"
And every action trope Danny asked Angel if he’d done on the job, Danny got to do in the end.
Also regarding the swan, "apparently, they can break a man's arm", and you see Inspector Frank with his arm in a sling at the end.
'By the power of Grayskull' is a He-Man reference
"I have the power!"❤❤❤
I was shocked he didn't know, I thought every mostly English speaking country was plagued by He-Man references 😂
@@StaubZuStaubif you didnt grow up in the 80s... you might have missed the reference.
Shaun of the Dead is simultaneously a hilarious send up of the Zombie genre while following the tropes of the genre so skillfully that it becomes a genuinely good zombie movie. The same goes for Hot Fuzz and buddy cop movies. World's End is a send up of another genre but its kind of spoilers to say which.
Paul is absolutely hilarious, too. All such fun movies with not stop comedy and action. It's such great storytelling with every single movie.
You might have caught this while editing, but they foreshadowed the whole movie twist at 2:48: "You can't just make people disappear." "Yes I can, I'm the Chief Inspector." Also I love the editing in this movie. It's so fast and snappy on the cuts.
Nice! Meanwhile, I saw the movie around 2 dozen times and I didn't realize that!
Two things I loved in this one the riot room was not used for so long a hedgehog took up residence in it and Two the first survive you see after the explosion was the hedgehog.
26:42 I think the joke here is they didn't kill the living statue. They just tossed him down there and he's so dedicated to his craft that he hasn't left.
I always thought the joke was they gold plated him like in Goldmember to make him a real statue.
I always thought the joke was that he died still in his statue position. 😂
All of the above options are funny
😂😂
@@chickginger That's clearly what is the joke. Even in this universe, a man wouldn't just sit there and die to show dedication to his craft.
I've watched this film a million times and seen a bunch of reactions to it as well, thought I knew all the jokes and full-circle moments.
Just realised on this watch-through, the model-village spire that goes through Skinner's mouth is the replica of the one he pushed on top of the reporter! Like a mini-revenge
Love this film! Works as both a parody of an action film and a straight up action film.
Personally I find Sandford’s Neighborhood Watch Alliance to be one of the most horrifying villainous organizations in film due to graphically killing anyone that threatens the village’s idyllic image and chances of winning an annual award, even over the smallest of nuisances . So trivial which makes it all the more sinister
Same
It’s also a parody of the Wickaman it even has Edward Woodward, who was in the original film in it.
And Woodward's last line in Hot Fuzz is almost a word for word callback to one of his last lines when he first sees the Wickerman and realises what is about to happen...
This is one of my favorite movies, right up there with "Clue." Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright write phenomenal screenplays together, while Pegg and Nick Frost have such excellent chemistry (likely on account of being actual IRL best friends). And Wright's direction is always a delight. Glad to see you guys enjoyed this one so much!
Fun fact, in earlier versions of the script, there was a love interest for Nicholas. They decided against it in favour of the pacing of the movie, but a lot of her lines were given to Danny. This is why their relationship feels like a romance a lot of times. Because it sort of is.
The play wasn't the traditional "Romeo and Juliet" but based on the Baz Luhrmann film "Romeo + Juliet"
"THE GREATER GOOD." One of my favorites. The flying kick into the old lady had me absolutely dying from laughter when I saw this in theaters. Also, "yarp" and "narp" are permanent additions to my vocabulary.
And she had a gun because everyone in the countryside has guns.
"Farmers" "Who else?" "Farmers Mum's"
"By the power of grey skull" He-Man
I must be getting old every kid knows that
youtube.com/@Rah84eem If they're too young to recognise Baz Lurhmann's Romeo & Juliet, they're too young for He-Man - and *_WAY_* too young for the Chinatown reference 🙂
An absolutely perfect movie in every single way possible!
13:46 "By the power of Grey Skull..... what is that?" - My 42 year old heart broke.
Same here. I saw this film at the cinema when it was first released. About half the audience laughed at this joke, those of us of a certain age! 😅
@@elvishdanUs 40-year olds know it, but I think even 35-year olds might be too young for that now.
@@Yora21I am 31 and 100% get the reference lol
And the fact that this movie is already 17 years old... Man, time flies!!
I love how everyone in the station has a counterpart in the grocery store
i love how the following people are in this film as cameo's
Peter Jackson - father christmas who stabs Nicolas
Kate Blanchett - the girlfriend behind the CSI mask
Martin Freeman - London Policeman trying to get rid of Nicolas - he is in the other 2 Cornetto movies
😁
I'll just add my voice to the many who will tell you this is movie #2 of the Cornetto trilogy Starting with Shaun of the Dead and ending with The World's End. Please watch them all in whatever order is left, Pref Shaun then World's End!
Edgar Wright the writer/director grew up in Wells where the film was shot. One of his first jobs as a teenager was stacking shelves in the supermarket used in the film
"Grey Skull? What is that?" ... Oh, I am SO old.
"By the power of Grayskull" What is that? Damn, that just hurt my soul. lol
Yep, we’re old kid
The reason there are so many quasi-romantic lines between Danny and Nicholas is because the original idea was to have Danny be a female love interest for Nicholas’ straight-laced city cop (the usual cliche for these kinds of films). When they decided to cast Nick Frost as Danny instead they left the dialogue as-is and it makes it even funnier 😂
What a load of BS. Nick Frost is in ALL the Cornetto Trilogy films and never has there been any idea that he should "have been a female". They also flirt in "Shaun of the Dead", is that also because Nick Frost should have been a women? In this they just do it more because they make fun of the American semi homo erotic male bonding in "Bad boys I and II" and similar movies.
@@madselmvig1457 they got the story wrong. There was originally a love interest for Angel in an early draft. She got cut and a lot of her lines went to Frost.
Ha ha ha ha
The Irony of the old lady calling Nic a Fascist then shooting at him with an old German Sten Gun from WW2.
Kinda true. Actually the history of the Swiss/Austrian Steyr-Solothurn S1-100 is a bit more complicated than that. Based on a WW1 German design idea, actually developed beween the wars by a Swiss front company (to get around the post WW1 Treaty of Versailles). Manufactured in Austria, used by Austrian Army & Police plus several European Police/Gendarmerie forces. It also sold to a number of countries in the Far East and South America. Obviously after the Germans annexed Austria, they inherited a bunch of them. I'd also point out that comparing it to a Sten is rather harsh😎 The Sten was as cheap as chips to make (between 2 and 3 GBP each) and maybe 4 million were made. The S1-100 was very expensive to make, some call it the Rolls-Royce of sub-machine guns. Hence its low sales numbers - thousands rather than millions were made. Real pretty gun though. I can only assume the armourers for Hot Fuzz decided to go wild, have fun and bring everything they had 🤠
One of my favorites, best Simon Pegg movie.
This is one of those movies that's better and better each time you watch it, because you notice more things. Case in point: even though I've seen Hot Fuzz probably at least a dozen times, just now I noticed for the first time that the Andys are named Andy Cartwright and Andy Wainwright, and a cartwright is the same thing as a wainwright: they're both people who make carts! So the Andys don't just share a first name, they also kind of share a last name...
Fun fact, the Trolly boy is The Hound from Game of Thrones.
If you haven’t yet, you should watch Shaun of the Dead, it’s a comedy zombie/horror genre, with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost again.
There are so many faces I recognize from british entertainment, (me being swedish). Ive seen no one writing about him, Bu t Jim Broadbent that played the police boss does a great job in Moulin Rouge and Harry Potter as well. I think you can see this as a satire over british cozy crime, such as Midsomer Murders. Small villages, violent death yet everything is nice, cozy and idyllic. The police that gets to know the truth, truth that are really bizarre at times.
I hope Nick realises the number of British comedy and acting legends in this! 😎
You should definitely watch Point Break. Classic action movie.
I'm glad that you watched it and liked it. Honestly it gets better with many re-watchings.
Also - there is over the top violence, but in the last shootout no-one dies (you can see their mugshots etc.)
Did something happen to Avatar: Last Airbender?
Such a fun movie and just the most British thing you're likely to see 😅
definitely the best of the cornetto trilogy. yall need to check out the other 2
Incase you missed it, the guy that played Michael Armstrong (The store employee who says "Yarp" all the time) was Rory McCann. Who also played Sandor "The Hound" Clegane in Game Of Thrones.
That whole movie is a roster of veteran British actors. My favorite is the minister, played by Paul Freeman, who was the handsome, villainous Belloq in RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.
"By the Power of Grayskull" is a reference to the He-Man cartoon, which was massively popular with children in the 1980s.
th-cam.com/video/-aulef0EthE/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared
Haha I love this movie! Glad you reacted to it. Highly recommend watching Shaun of the Dead as well if you haven't already.
"By the power of Greyskull" is the catchphrase of He-Man from the cartoon show "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe".
The start of the movie is not him narrating himself, its actually Martin Freemans character listing off his file/achievements to him before promoting and transferring him
In the original draft Nicholas Angel had a love interest who was later written out. But several of her lines were given to Danny.
"By the power of Grey Skull" comes from He-Man. "By the power of Grey Skull, I HAVE THE POWER!!!!" lol
Well, you *could* find guns and such laying around Britain. Lots of equipment was lost during WWII, as much as they tried to keep track of it.
There’s some nods to other movies in this movie like when the journalist gets killed that’s a nod to The Omen
and, strangely the Hotel owner ("Facist") is the Actor that played the evil Nanny in The Omen
@@grabtharshammer wow you’re so right! I’ve never even picked up on that before 👏
Cornetto trilogy". First Shaun of the dead, then Hot fuzz, then The worlds end". All theee having something for everyone..Xx
2:20 - He wasn't Billy Bob Torton, but it was Peter Jackson!
*@NickReacts* PLEASE, yall have to watch/react to the movie "Paul" with these same two guys in it!!! It is hilarious!!!
Edgar Wright is a genius of visual comedy.
I watched this in a cinema when i was 15/16 and a friend of mine couldn't stop laughing! Even if the comedy style was not that easy to get along with
Another funny british movie is "Death at a funeral" from Frank Oz. Idk if it is worth a reaction, but still recommend it 🙂
Movie #2 of the Cornetto Trilogy
The way ‘our girl’ stayed with, and recognized each-and-every double-intendre, only to reach the near end and exclaim “…oh, 💩!!” when she feared that Danny had a …a’hem… ‘terrible accident!’ Kept me going throughout the entire reaction. Subscribing in 3…2…😲🤘🏻💪🏻
Anyway, my perfect Sunday-...
The play of Romeo and Juliet, is actually a spoof of a movie Romeo and Juliet that had Leonardo DiCaprio that came out in ‘96 You guys should react to it
One of my favorite comedy flim ever!😂
Edgar Wright is brilliant, I enjoy all his work.
This is the second of the Cornetto trilogy, all written by Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright, directed by Wright and starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. You need to watch the other two: Shaun of the Dead and The World's End!
Yes, I love the whole trilogy so much!
Olivia Colman is an Oscar winner.
The bit where Danny takes a shotgun blast to protect Nicholas is a bit of an in-joke. Anyone who watched the tv series, Spaced, which starred Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, would probably remember the paintball episode.
Nick Frost and Simon Pegg is just one of the biggest Bromances in Movie history.
This movie is inspired by a 1970's film called the wickerman. It stars Edward Woodward, he plays a policeman investigating the strange disapearance of someone in a close knit community. In Hot Fuzz he plays the neighbourhood watch cctv guy, he also starred in the original Equaliser 1980's TV show! Before Denzel Washington came along.
I love showing this movie to people who have never seen it. The joy and excitement on their faces is fun to watch 😊
This movie is my favorite of the Cornetto trilogy.
There are so many layers and call backs throughout this entire movie - it's fantastic!
I love how whenever British cops have to save an injured swan or catch one that's wandering on a main road, they reference this movie.
Absolute credit to Edgar Wright, the fictional town used in scenarios in UK Police training is called Sandford!
A Fish Called Wanda is a great british heist comedy.
I also recommend Kung Fu Hustle. I wonder how your asian (chinese?) gf would react to it.
13:48 'By the power of Grayskull' - that is reference to the show, He-Man and The Masters of the Universe.
Super fun reaction. Thanks!
I recommend watching a video breaking down the details to fully appreciate the efforts put into this movie.
One of my favourites is the 'farmers mums ' joke, since the second person he fights in the finale is an armed farmer's mum 😂
Also you are right, there was meant to be a romantic interest for Angel, but they gave the lines to Danny. I think it works really well to have a platonic relationship so important to the plot.
The Santa stabber was actually Peter Jackson 😂
-2:17 No, it was director and writer Peter Jackson, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, King Kong, etc...
-You cut out the Hostage taker, which was Garth Jennings, the director of The Hitchhiker's Guide to to the Galaxy
-3:24 Bob is played by Joe Cornish, director of "Attack the Block"
-3:28 Janine is played by Cate Blanchett
Most random facts about the cast. Peter Jackson played Father Christmas, and the priest played Ivan Ooze from The Power Rangers Movie
Hi Nick! I highly recommend that you also watch “Paul” as soon as you have finished the other two parts of the “Cornetto Triology”. This time it not only plays in the USA, but also has a great cast. Someone once wrote about this... "Paul is what Seth Rogen would be like as an extraterrestrial..." That should be enough incentive for you...!
British humour will often add in genuine sentiment, dark themes and extreme violence into the mix.
A lot of, if not all of Sargent Angels' partner was written as a romantic female character in mind. When they decided to cast Nick in the role, they just kept the dialogue the same. Makes for a great bromance
This is my second favorite comedy of all times (Second only to Airplaine!). This is a masterpiece
Fun Fact : Father Christmas was the director of Lord of The Rings
You need to know who the actors in the NWA have played in their careers to appreciate the casting. Stars of the Wicker Man, the Omen, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Lethal Weapon, etc.
James Bond and the Equaliser too.
Maybe you didn't hear about it but the UK had sea mines surrounding it during WW2 and the country gave out weapons during that period to several people and communities (near the sea) in case an invasion party came inland.
And after the war, much of the excess weaponry were not eliminated but rather came into the possession of the civilian population.
If you notice, the good guys didn't kill anyone.lol
Definitely a specific style. Simon, Nick and Edgar are a dream team.
Spaced (tv show!!)
Shaun of the Dead
The World's End
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Please watch Man up ♥️ genuinely one of my favourite films of all time. Simon Pegg is in it too. It genuinely changed me haha ♥️
Hot shots 1&2, airplane, young Frankenstein, blazing saddles, animal house
Timothy dalton according to Edgar wright and Simon pegg: “he’s a stone cold fox! He causes ladyquakes wherever he goes. Like when he’s walking around wales high street he can have his pick of the bunch.” And Simon is like: “I watched this with my wife, my mother and my sister and they would go crazy whenever he’s on screen.”
Mirror mask would be amazing to see you guys reactions to that film
Awesome reaction of my favorite movie!!!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
If you have not reacted to the Mummy series of movies, you should. So good.
Awww, you spoiled it! 😀
Shoulda watched them in order.
Btw- WOW! What a good quality picture!
(So disappointed you didn't know what "Grey Skull" was/is though... 😢 )
The Santa who stabbed Nicholas at the beginning was Peter Jackson, the director of The Lord of the Rings.
You definately have to watch some He-Man so for the future you know what the Power of Greyskull means.
comedies are my favorite reactions. sprinkle in some serious stuff , but I love comedy so much. Also, I think this might be a perfect film. Not a wasted minute of screen time; everything is either set up or pay off.
This is one of my all-time favorite comedies! The writing is awesome. You guys are soooo cute!!! 🥰
I can't think of a single other movie where, no matter how many times you watch, you can spot something new that you totally missed. I actually consider this a perfect movie, certainly near as you can get, anyway.
Nick Frosts character was originally written as female, they switched the sex of the character, but didn't change the dialogue, that's why it seems they're a little too friendly.
Love this movie 🎉❤Great job you two !!
33:59 Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, ladies and gentlemen.
The Cornetto Trilogy
Shawn of the dead
Hot Fuzz
Worlds End
"Last Night In Soho" just came out in 2021, it's relatively recent.
"By the power of Greyskull" is a quote from the cartoon Heman, used to watch it a lot growing up
there was going to be a femail character but they gave her lines to Nick's character
