I was living in Wells, Somerset when Hot Fuzz was filmed, fun fact it is technically a city due to the presence of the cathedral, despite being the size of a small town. it was so amazing yet hilariously bizarre to see a massive gunfight take place in the market square, it'll always be one of my favourite movies for that (and the excellent production of course!)
@@harrymcmahon6876 It's not the only way to be a city in the 21st century of course. But unlike Lisburn, which was only made a city in 2002, Wells has been a city since the late medieval period, when city status was specifically due to the presence of a diocesan cathedral (at least in England).
Edward Woodward saying: Oh god No was a call back to The Wicker Man. Same each month, while Quarantined, I'll pick up an order and watch all three. Flawless from my precious perspectives, (exept world's end, but a 9/10 is still brilliant in a trilogy so strong).
I have done all three back to back a few times as part of my Christmas Day drunken binge. (relax, my parents leave town to go and stay with my sister and her kids so I have no immediate family within 100+ km. Christmas Day is MY Day). World's End I feel is very underrated. Took me a few viewings to get fully into it and appreciate what was happening and how the story is been told. If I had to pick I might even say it is my favourite. In My Opinion :D

After watching this I had to rewatch "the world's end". Because I've seen shaun of the dead, and hot fuzz a hundred times each and love all 3, but I've seen worlds end only once before. After rewatching it, it really a hell of a good flick. Simon pegg's acting during the climax is actually amazing and heart breaking. "they told me when to go bed! Me!" The gun used by the Woman who calls Angel a Fascist is actually a British Weapon called the Lanchester SMG, Built by Sterling and based on the German MP28. Used by the Royal Navy and RAF. looked a lot like the STEN and became the basis of the Post War British Sterling SMG.
Bill Nighy's nearly imperceptible snarl after saying he can make people dissapear because he's chief inspector is my favorite non-verbal acting of all time.
Loves how he allowed/decided to have the blade go through, rather than slash/gouge his ligaments. Interpretation, I know, but he didn't grab it and I don't know how "bad Santa" could've gone purposefully for the officer's limb instead of his neck, center mass/upper body, or just for his face and/or neck area. Looks more like a "let it pierce and deal with it", rather than "how lucky this is, maniac went to stab the hand of his own accord". Just saying. Head-cannon is "smart lad decided to have the hand be stabbed, rather than grabbing the blade when the knife went towards his torso/face/neck". With all the details in this gem, I'm allowed to believe things went that route.
My headcannon for the yarp/narp moment was on the other end of the line is skinner going "oh, shit, asked the wrong question... oh hey! Nice! He did it!"
I’m from the West Midlands and I know it’s rich coming from someone who lives there since we’re known for thick accents. But I could not tell what the farmer was saying just like Angel. But I have a mate who comes from Plymouth way and he said he didn’t need a translator for the Farmer. He understood every word which makes me find that scene even more amusing.
I’m an American and I absolutely love Hot Fuzz!! I saw it in theaters when it came out and have watched it dozens of times! I also use it to fall asleep to since I need background noise and it only really works with something I’ve seen a bunch of times. I’m glad two of my favorite movie reviewers love the movie too!!
I was kind of amused that Mauler twice said "Every Frame a Pause" when he actually meant "Every Frame a Painting". His show has truly invaded his mind :D
I didn't realise this movie was made with the budget of 12-16 mills USD (according to WIKI). Impressive. Meanwhile Disney spent about 25 mils USD per episode on She-Hulk, and Amazon spent about 65 mils USD per episode on Rings of Power, and those were complete waste of money.
I started watching this video withiut having watched Hot Fuzz, then I thought hey lets whats Hot Fuzz first. Then I did. And I am thankful I did! Fuck what a movie!!!!!!! Amazing! Absolutely amazing!! I laughed out LOUDLY at the two layers of interpretation scene 😂😂😂😂 just amazing.
When I saw this in the theater I could not stop laughing. Every moment had a gag in it no matter how subtle, like Angel moving to the new town with just a plant.
The reason the dialogue between the two cops comes off as romantic is because originally the part of Danny was written to be a woman, and when they changed it to a male they saw the hilarity in the dialogue and left it
Woodford Reserve is a damn proper bourbon. Good call, mate! Also, I've enjoyed Hot Fuzz since I first watched in college, but I've really begun to appreciate it even more over the past couple years for the fight story, outstanding whit and incredible editing.
@@blisterfingers8169 The point being that one doesn’t have to be British to be capable of appreciating how quintessentially British this film is. The vast majority of Americans will not have the lived experience necessary to appreciate that aspect of this film; I feel very blessed to be in a position to do so.
2:32 YES! My thoughts as well, MauLer! Out of all the films I've watched within the span of more than 2 decades, this film is so excruciatingly quotable that much of my family still recall more than a handful of lines from the film even if they haven't re-watched it in years. The writing caliber of this film is also top-notch. Hot Fuzz remains my favorite film of all time. Thank you for including it on these streams.
Hot Fuzz is my all-time favorite film. Having watched this move for well over a decade at LEAST once a year, I can tell you with near certainty there is only a single joke that doesn't get used twice (introduction, pay off). And it's the first joke of the movie. "Improved skill base with courses in advanced driving and... advanced cycling!" And Simon Pegg is never once on a bicycle in the rest of the film. I imagine that they had a scene where he uses the lady's bike near the end of the movie (the one that Danny hits with the car door) and does some kind of "catch-up" or chase, but as indulgent and extended as the final act is, I'm sure it was either cut from the film or cut from the entire production to streamline the ending for a joke that no one was prepared to remember (being the first of the movie, after all).
@@michaelharvey1197 Oh, I'm not saying it should have been done again. But I find it fascinating that there's a "call and response" to just about every gag. Even when Nicholas Angel talks about having a little cop car as a kid, they have a photo of it in his locker when he is moving stations earlier in the film.
Glad to see you gents discussion a full on comedy for a change. It’s always a good time for some belly-laughs, and what a great, clever set of movies to go to for them!
This movie is just so damn cozy to me. Idk why. Love watching it when I am feeling unwell or with some cold windy weather outside. Just a wonderful movie with so much that you can notice something new each viewing and appreciate it more, just like the other two Cornetto movies.
These movies are absolutely brilliant, but they hold a very special place in my heart because Nick Frost acts IDENTICALLY to the European version of my brother who passed away suddenly years ago. I discovered Shaun of the Dead very shortly after my brother passed away. Seeing Nick Frost and his character Ed in Shaun of the Dead and the ways his character spoke, acted, facial expressions, quick-witted quips, the physical humour, everything really made me feel like my brother and his out of this world personality was still around. Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz truly helped in healing a gaping hole in my heart and soul when I thought it would never begin to heal. These movies are comedic masterpieces (and even the dramatic and emotional moments are superbly done!) and they have been a fond blessing to me. 🤗🙏
I've always viewed the trilogy as a warning against communism and I do seem to remember a handful of references to communism throughout spaced like Bilbo's dog Gramsci. Great movies, all three and Peggs performance at the end of world's end is Oscar worthy!

A Cathedral does not a city make. It's by Royal charter. For example, Lisburn in NI is a city but doesn't have a Cathedral.
@@harrymcmahon6876 It's not the only way to be a city in the 21st century of course.
But unlike Lisburn, which was only made a city in 2002, Wells has been a city since the late medieval period, when city status was specifically due to the presence of a diocesan cathedral (at least in England).
I learned a thing today, thanks from across the pond.
The Andys staring shot is the best comedy shot in cinema.
don‘t get up!
Edward Woodward saying: Oh god No was a call back to The Wicker Man.
Jim Broadbent went up to Simon Pegg after Shaun of The Dead and asked if there might be a small part in the next film...to which Pegg thought F**k yeah and then they get the best of British acting talent in one room. Billie Whitelaw - muse of playwright Samuel Beckett..Hag!!!! During the NWA cake scene he said it felt like they had the royalty of British acting and they did. Plus the film respected their input and wasn't a dud.
Jim Broadbent is an actor's actor, and his role in this film was just incredible.
Sends horse away.
Chews toothpick.
"Mornin'."
"Check out his 'orse!"
And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him.
The ending gunfight is amazing. I think the fountain scene is also referencing Way of the Gun, which has a character jump into a dry fountain at one point during the shootout
Full of broken bottles and glass shards
Hot Fuzz is my favourite comedy of all time.
I Love those classic *Simon Pegg* movies
I gotta watch "Shaun of The Dead" / "The Worlds End" etc... every so often
Same each month, while Quarantined, I'll pick up an order and watch all three. Flawless from my precious perspectives, (exept world's end, but a 9/10 is still brilliant in a trilogy so strong).
Simon Pegg holds a special place in my heart. Nick Frost is amazing as well.
@@mudcrab3420 World's End certainly has the strongest WTF! moment of the whole trilogy. Every friend I've shown it to drops his/her jaw at the moment when punches the head off the dude in the bathroom.
@@mudcrab3420 I agree, I love worlds end
I love how everything interconnects, dialogue, music, scenes. It's so brilliantly done.
Classic British film, timeless. Quote it all the time
Hell, the bit with the Andys telling Angel off about looking through the phone book and starting with Aaron A Aaronson and come to find out it's the ginger kid at the end, I had to stop and rewind just to get it.
That explains Nicholas reaction at the end.
The thing about Aaron’s is we’re always being butt dialed
I've also seen someone say that because he's the last character to be introduced, at the end of the movie, he's last in the credits even though he's first in the phone book. So it's a meta joke that even extends into the credits. Lol
@@TheSlammurai He is last in he credits.
Dalton thoroughly revived his good name with his acting in this marvelous movie.
The best thing about the bin scene is that the "fuck off" is delivered almost instantaneously as if expected.
Hell yea I love hot fuzz and also just started watching Mauler so this is perfect
Welcome to the Toxic Brood. EFAPs are highly addictive. And there is no cure.
Welcome to Mr. Roger's Gamerhood.
@@andrewconrad2859 I love Maulers videos and I liked efap when it started. I can get behind long form content. And bits of efap can still be entertaining... But when they started taking 10 hours instead of 3 to talk about a 20 minute youtube video.....even I check out.
@@Biggiiful I cannot argue with that in the least. The "Mini"s are preferable in my opinion. Unfortunately I have enough time for the marathons. I actually wish I didn't.
@@andrewconrad2859 I still pop in and try to use timestamps for the good stuff. I don't want to talk shit about them. Just I think warranted criticism. I also have too much free time I wish I didn't....and Im thankful for free entertainment. And I'm sure It's fun for them. They get to m hang out and chat with friends. But as content to consume it's kinda ridiculous. Much prefer drinkers film talks. Even when he's reached 5 hours it all stays on topic. Combine that with Maller as a guest and it's the best of both worlds.
Dave Angel "Eco warrior". "You piss around with mother nature, you piss around with gods ball bag!"
I love the fact that Mauler says "there's a great video by every frame a pause". I think you meant every frame a painting. I guess mauler has EFAP on the brain 😁
22:40, I wondered about that, did I miss an EFAP?
@@ObsidianBehemoth I just looked it up, and I believe Danny is correct: "Every Frame a Painting" has a video about Wright's ability to create humor through camera work. Here is the link:
th-cam.com/video/3FOzD4Sfgag/w-d-xo.html
Just about every episode of Every Frame a Painting is just a fantastic insight into filmmaking. It's a shame the channel did a fade.
Me!" With tears and destain in his eyes! Damn! As a fellow drinker, I felt that! "We just want to have a good time" which is another way of saying, we just want to feel happy. In an otherwise miserable as depressed existence.
That szene is even deeper then that. Watch it again and look closely at BOTH his wrists... they hint at more then just his time in rehab. And they also make clear that he wanted to fulfill the mile with another, way sadder, goal in mind. I dont wanna spoil it, but it took me several times untill I completely got it... and then is somewhat broke me!
This movie has like seven layers. You have to watch it multiple times to appreciate how underrated it is
42:15 - In Germany there was a case in a very small town where some older guy regulary drove his tank through the streets once a year until it eventually was found out by some people outside that village. Was a big deal and all.
Wasn't it a German WW2 Panther Tank? In the village of Heinkendorf?
@@ArcticWolf00Alpha0
I forgot the details, but its definitely possible.
The gun used by the Woman who calls Angel a Fascist is actually a British Weapon called the Lanchester SMG, Built by Sterling and based on the German MP28. Used by the Royal Navy and RAF. looked a lot like the STEN and became the basis of the Post War British Sterling SMG.
when Nicholas has his first pint, then shows how many rounds one can get with a 20 bob note, shows the difference between london and small towns
Bill Nighy's nearly imperceptible snarl after saying he can make people dissapear because he's chief inspector is my favorite non-verbal acting of all time.
Everyone always glosses over the Peter Jackson as Father Christmas cameo.
“How’s the hand?”
“Still a bit stiff.”
The guy that directed Hobbit and King Kong? Bleep him
@@JoshuaKevinPerry
Lord of the Rings Trilogy.
Bleep you kind sir, arrrg'ably.
Jackson really did hurt Pegg's hand stabbing the blunt knife shaft into his palm but Pegg didn;t say anything. So probably was still a bit stiff!!
Lol, I say "yarp" all the fucking time.. I never knew that was the hound though!
My Dad to this day says Yarp whenever ask ask him something, after he watched Hot Fuzz.
@@beardedbjorn5520 I say "Nough" after being exposed to an australian for over 2 years
I've seen this movie at least 20 times, it's perfect every time. Listening to this...I know what I'm watching tonight.
Join the club!!!
"Oh yeah, I'll watch this."
4 hours.
"Oh."
"With respect, sir, you can't just make people disappear."
"Yyyyyes, I can, I'm the Chief Inspector"
Always surprised more people don't notice this foreshadowing.
The Gods must be crazy is a wonderful movie I saw several times as a kid on TV. Even the German dub was endearing.
My headcannon for the yarp/narp moment was on the other end of the line is skinner going "oh, shit, asked the wrong question... oh hey! Nice! He did it!"
There has to be a Drinker Recommends The Cornetto Trilogy in the pipeline... please???
When the Preacher yells "Jesus Christ!" When he is wounded is my favorite line of the film.
Fun fact: the Cornetto mythos came about from a joke in Spaced. When Edgar Wright was a student, his go-to hangover cure was a Cornetto.
And when they put one in Shaun Wall's Ice Cream sent them a box and so they put one in Fuzz hoping for some more!
Speaking of cameos, the actor who played the priest is Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
‘Is he dead?’
‘Yarp.’
‘Is he going to get up again?’
‘…narp?’
‘Good!’
‘
Chris angel isn't that like a magician lol
The cheesiest one out of many cheesy contenders!
Let's off road!
MINDFREAK! bahahahaha
Like a magician. But without the entertainment
One of my favorite movies too!! Everything is great to the cuts, the humor, the action, the city, the characters, etc!
Hot Fuzz presents the perfect cinematic bromance
I’m an American and I absolutely love Hot Fuzz!! I saw it in theaters when it came out and have watched it dozens of times! I also use it to fall asleep to since I need background noise and it only really works with something I’ve seen a bunch of times. I’m glad two of my favorite movie reviewers love the movie too!!
I was kind of amused that Mauler twice said "Every Frame a Pause" when he actually meant "Every Frame a Painting".
His show has truly invaded his mind :D
Well, when every episode is 11+ hours...
Speaking of watching more than once… I thoroughly enjoyed this one
One of my childhood favorites right next to toxic avenger.
Oh wow just double checked the release date. 2007 wow I was 13 then
There's like two decades between those two man... how long was your childhood :)
When I saw this in the theater I could not stop laughing. Every moment had a gag in it no matter how subtle, like Angel moving to the new town with just a plant.
The reason the dialogue between the two cops comes off as romantic is because originally the part of Danny was written to be a woman, and when they changed it to a male they saw the hilarity in the dialogue and left it
Ah yes, Hot Fuzz, the film where Chris Angel the Mindfreak is a London cop who gets shipped off to the country for being too good at his job.
The paperwork in hot fuzz is filmed like kira writing names on death note.
Okay, it's been over a year since you wrote this, but damn if it isn't spot on. =)
Pretty accurate considering the reveal with the kids
Woodford Reserve is a damn proper bourbon. Good call, mate!
Also, I've enjoyed Hot Fuzz since I first watched in college, but I've really begun to appreciate it even more over the past couple years for the fight story, outstanding whit and incredible editing.
47:00 As an American kid who grew up on the Somerset/Dorset border, I adore how familiar everything in this film is!
Not sure being American is related to that.
@@blisterfingers8169 The point being that one doesn’t have to be British to be capable of appreciating how quintessentially British this film is. The vast majority of Americans will not have the lived experience necessary to appreciate that aspect of this film; I feel very blessed to be in a position to do so.
This, after his own movie dissections, is the best Mauler. Love this!
The way they talk brings me back to playing Overlord and the Fable games when I was younger lmao
I think that the bike joke was enough done once
.
Any more than that & it would be too tired
@@michaelharvey1197 Oh, I'm not saying it should have been done again. But I find it fascinating that there's a "call and response" to just about every gag. Even when Nicholas Angel talks about having a little cop car as a kid, they have a photo of it in his locker when he is moving stations earlier in the film.
@@DapperDanLovesYou Two Tyred
The farmer with all of the guns is called Webley, which is another funny little detail.
The irony of the Carano situation is the same people calling for her head would have fallen in line with the Nazis.
Glad to see you gents discussion a full on comedy for a change. It’s always a good time for some belly-laughs, and what a great, clever set of movies to go to for them!
Need to rewatch the movie before I watch this stream!
This movie is just so damn cozy to me. Idk why. Love watching it when I am feeling unwell or with some cold windy weather outside. Just a wonderful movie with so much that you can notice something new each viewing and appreciate it more, just like the other two Cornetto movies.
I agree. I think its the pacing and the country setting.
Nicholas Angel = Apex officer
Chris Angel = Street magician
Such a great film, I don't really have many favorite films but this is probably one of them. Good stuff!
Thank you boys....I haven’t laugh so hard in ages ❤️
As someone who grew up in China, i approve this message
Stumbled on this…..Hot fuzz was the most genuine movie experiences I’ve ever had…. Had no idea what it was going into it, started the British buddy cop movie, then all of a sudden a slasher film, and then wtf now it’s a shoot ‘em up?!?’ As an American it blew me away, love the accents of the townspeople , I could literally watch this at any time, incredible, so glad you guys happy houses this…ps most these movies are in my top lists, love it 😆
Love this. I need to watch Hot Fuzz again.
I loved the World's End. I'll never forget convincing my grandparents to watch it with me, them being completely unaware of the film. By the time OSGAP makes it to the Cross Hands they were checked out, but then that first robot head goes flying and they were so shocked. Marvelous times.

Well, except for the food maybe :P
Hot Fuzz is one of the most re-watchable movies I've ever seen. Extremely quotable and just a good damn time.
Eaters of the Dead is a Michael Chrichton novel. Same author as Jurassic Park. Great novel though.
I saw The 13th Warrior before Skyrim came out, and I'm glad I did. I got to experience the film as the director intended instead of how I see it now: a lone Redguard joins Ulfric Stormcloak on his quest to protect Markarth from the Forsworn.
@@BogeyTheBear fuck me, now I can't unthink that. I've loved that movie since it released, and personally believe that it's one of the few instances where the movie is better than the book.

The fence jump was the bit that made me realise what this movie was about. It had a bit of a low key promotion here in Oz and one night I randomly saw the ad on the TV and they showed the fence jump. Huge WTF? moment. What IS this movie? There is a Shaun of the Dead 'sequel' and no one had told me?!?
@@mudcrab3420 I remember going to the cinema to see this film with a mate and that scene filled me with so much joy & embarrassingly loud laughter - the casting & acting in this movie is just so darn good!
