Angela Gheorghiu and Roberto Alagna in the tragic final scene of Puccini's La Boheme. Orange, 2005. For a free, English translation please see the following: operainenglish....
Roberto and Angela's talent for performance and dramatic apotheosis. so truthfully, the tears themselves pour. Elegantly played and vocally performed. It is a masterpiece. Bravo
Have you guys watched the incredible Australian opera performance of La Boheme? Because David Hobson was the tenor and he was so moved at the end he was still sobbing real tears when the cast took their bows. It must be hard to sing this with sincerity without being personally moved. Now I need to re-watch Araiza, he of the incredible technique and excellent role playing, and see how he handled those last moments. Remember also, most audiences are viewing from a distance. Just as theatre acting must differ from film acting, so must opera acting be larger than life.
I've seen that one and loved it up until the last 2 minutes. Although I've hated it less the more I watch it. Hobson's take was heart-breaking, but Rodolfo MUST embrace Mimi at the end. It feels empty otherwise. Shicoff does it best in the 1982 Royal Opera production with Ileana Cortrubas.
Roberto Alagna spectacular in this and often underrated, sings even better with his divine Angela in these years. I love the refrain. Superb acting…And…Alagna’s heart wrenching cry at the end. The most convincing cry in all of opera. I know because I’ve cried the sobbing cry of real loss and it is agonizing for anyone to hear.
Podem criticar..... Gheorghiu com uma Mimi esplêndida!!!! Alagna também não ficou devendo nada com seu Marcelo!!!! Perfeito.... Bravo, bravo, bravo.....
She is amazing in this !!!! Particularly at the shift from Cminor to Cmajor -- come il mare ed infonito - her visual and vocal shift is so subtle and wonderful !!! He sings well, if at times harshly.......It's unfortunate that his acting style is OverActing
Rodolfo's cry at the end has to be one of the most haunting things in opera. It always gives me chills. Roberto sounded fantastic in this.
I really like her voice and her acting skills are great too, Angela is just magnificent!

Yes Roberto its great singer and plus actor with Angela perfect bravi!
I’m 57 and listened to this on the old record player my dad played it for me. I couldn’t speak any Italian, but this part made me cry.

You know, Roberto Alagna lost his first wife to a brain tumor in 1994. I can't even imagine what he must feel every time he sings this.

It is very powerful. Hard to take in a way - as in emotionally painful. Tomorrow I'll see the Met version.

Are you talking about the wind? It's an outdoor performance.
Why the fan on the side of the stage? Is that just to make the candles flicker when the libretto calls for it?
Гарні.
