    That is how Darwin, Australia, looked on Christmas Day 1974, after Cyclone Tracy. I will never forget it and am still terrified if the wind starts to get a bit strong. I can totally relate to how those poor people feel, disoriented, with nothing looking familiar, displaced, because you don't know where to go or what to do. Those poor dear people.

    the logistics of where to put the garbage will be the a huge problem,time to rethink the absurdity of trying to rebuild structures that cant withstand hurricanes

    • @Mulberrysmile
      @Mulberrysmile 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      They need a high temperature incinerator that re-burns the toxic gases too. And I agree that rebuilding is an issue. I think that rebuilding any structure on a island that is just barely above sea level is insanity. This wasn’t just wind, it was water moving relentlessly over the island. How do you even create a building code for that? Forty foot high domes with no cars or boats or debris allowed that could be pushed into structures? And even if you did it, how could normal people afford to rebuild?
      Sadly, this is an issue for almost all our coastal areas...how many time have the people on the outer banks had to rebuild? How many people in Houston had to gut their homes just so they can be flooded again with the next big storm?
      I left FL for VA this last winter because I am OVER the stress and rush to do the prep, and sitting in terror that this time is the time the roof goes, or house floods. I now live at 1300 ft above sea level, well west of the ocean, and there is no way for my house to flood without a truly gigantic super tsunami. If I am never to see the ocean again, I do not care one tiny bit.
      My heart breaks for the people who lost their loved ones, their property, and their livelihoods, but I pray they can choose to go elsewhere as refugees. Clean the islands up and turn them into parks and nature preserves with minimal permanent occupants who can be evacuated easily.

      Remco Van Ek It's not a hoax it's just wildly exaggerated. Arguing that individual storms are the result of climate change is of course complete nonsense, as even the most vocal climate change proponents agree. If you research the history of climate scares, this is literally the 5th time since the 1860s that we have panicked they "the climate is changing" and we are getting colder & colder towards another ice age, then claim we are mysteriously getting hotter, then back to the "new ice age" narrative, then back to "global warming." And most recently, we switched to "climate change" so no matter WHAT happens they can say "See? I told you!"

    • @mstalcup
      @mstalcup 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BlackLabelSlushie Spoken like a boilerplate Fox News narrative of anthropogenic climate change denial. They don't want you to follow the evidence where it leads; they would rather leave you disinformed or, at best, confused about the weight of scientific evidence. Nobody who understands climate change would say that an individual storm is a direct result of climate change. To characterize the positions of informed people who are concerned about climate change in this way is to set up a straw man fallacy. All that right-wing propaganda you swallow is paid for by companies that don't want environmental regulations to eat away at their earning potentials.

      some of the homes here in the Bahamas were built extremely well and were still destoryed by the winds and storm. Little homes or big homes were all destoryed the same mostly. Some lucky homeowners had their home stand, but not many. People now have nothing and have to start all over. Luckily the people with money can build again but the people who don't have money to rebuild, now have lost everything and they will not be able to rebuild it back up. If I were them, I wouldn't live on the islands. I know it's their home, but they'll always have to rebuild every time a devastating hurricane hits. Of course it could happen again. Since the ocean's been extremely warm, that's been causing the hurricanes to get stronger. It's predicted that we'll be seeing more slow moving/stalling hurricanes like Harvey, Florence and now this.

And Navarre Beach and the South end of Santa Rosa County looked exactly like those Islands. The Holiday Inn on the beach, was totally gone, the pool was overflowing with sand and it was an inside pool. It took years to rebuild, but Holiday Inn didn't bother, they sold the property. I saw a hugh motor home folded like a cardboard box. It's hard to go through stuff like that. But I don't stay for anything larger than a cat 1. Why is this suddenly all about "climate change?" It was a hurricane...something that happens pretty much every year and it's nothing more than the luck of the draw where they're going to go and what might be in its path. I think the bigger question is why wasn't EVERYONE evacuated when we knew for days how bad it was and that it looked like the Bahama's would be taking a near direct hit. So tragic.

    • @dnickaroo3574

      @Michelle Ackerson They called it a Category 5 hurricane, but it was too strong for a Category 5 -- it should be called a Category 6 (but that does not exist yet). It is virtually the strongest hurricane on record, so they do not occur every year. Extreme climatic events have increased 3-fold, so that Insurance Companies will not insure for them.
