Great video. One thing. I think you missed an important part of multiplier reel classification that could confuse thru ommission. Most of us slightly older sea anglers would grade multipliers on the basis of 5000 or 6000 or 7000 sized reels. More specifically an ABU 5000 or 5500 would be a baitcaster type (eg small/lures or Salmon spinning), an ABU 6500 would be your go to all round reel (optimum tournament casting distance and light to medium beach), then the ABU 7000 or 7500 reel ( heavy duty / rougher ground but doesnt cast as far as 6500). So the Daiwa 6RM or 6HM tallied with the Abu 6500 Ambassadeur Rocket or Mag Elite. The Daiwa 7HT is bigger nearly equating to to the ABU Ambassadeur 7000CT or 7500CS The now popular PENN Casting Special II are probably best classed as 6800 or there abouts on this scale. ie heavier duty and definitely rough ground but very good casters. Abu would then do the old Ambassadeur 8000 or 9000 for boat work. Superb reels in their day so smooth. I just dont recognise the 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 sizes you cited. I think it is a recognition of the Penn SLOSH20 ( equiv to 6500) and SLOSH30 ( equiv to ABU7000/7500) but most old skool tackle shops would still ask you if you want a '6000/6500' sized or a '7000/7500' sized reel meaning do you want a light-medium beach but full distance caster .....or a heavier rougher ground reel.
Had my first session on the Bristol channel past week. Had a holiday booked at Brean sands so after chatting with a local I headed down 3 hrs before high. Had 5 thornbacks in 3 hours. My top tips for fishing that stretch would be to travel light as you will be moving back up the beach every 10 mins on the flood. Also make sure your reels are fully loaded as you will fishing at distance with the tide.
Great video Jansen, I am still on my SL20s-I have had them for more than 20 years so it is probably time to upgrade to something with stronger gearing-I do feel under a bit of pressure when retrieving a decent fish over rough ground.
Brilliant video mate. All the great channels out there should be encouraged to do this. It doesn’t matter how experienced you are, we can all learn something. No I don’t do Tip 4 😞. When you live as far from the sea as I do and only get to it a few times a year to fish, the excitement of getting bait in the water as soon as possible is overwhelming. Promise I will do tip 4 from now on 👍🏻. Please keep those videos coming. Love this format
That tip number 4…. I’ve seen so many guys rock up with freshly spoiled reels, bait a rig, cast it out and CRACK. Always worth having a gentle cast with just a lead first of all. Thanks for the feedback, Chris, always appreciate your comments. Tight lines!🙂🎣
What an excellent video. 👏👍Brilliant advice which applies not only to the Bristol channel. Yes I do tip 4, and on my last cast I leave the lead out while I bait my rig to make sure the lead is holding. Thanks for sharing.👍 I'm sure lots of anglers will take something from it. Take care and stay safe. 😷🙊
That was a fabulous video! I have the gear for sea fishing (yet to go), and that explained everything perfectly! It was the video i wanted to see. Brilliant.
Great video very informative covers all the important basics that so many people just don't do. Audio was great considering how windy it looked out there.
Hi jansen you ok mate, great vid as the uze cheers. Great 4 beginners and any other angler who wants tips. You can never have enough can you. All the best jansen from the north east Grimsby.
Just subscribed to your channel only came across it today I like how you do it it's not just catch a fish and show it you explain stuff and why you do it the way you do. That's the way I feel it should be I do the same on my channel Keep it up. I'm heading to the channel my self hopefully as soon as in a couple months. 🤞. I will have a flick through your videos I'm sure there will be lots of helpful advice for my attempts at the Bristol channel. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. Thanks Dave
Great Video as always Janson. I haven’t forgot about coming to the channel & having you show me around. I looking towards the end of August or early September & would like your advice on catching either a Spotted or Blonde Ray.
Excellent video again enjoy watching you wish you do a lot more only thing is I find the rotten bottom clips you use don’t all way come off on a windy day you need Slack for them to work
True, they’re not fail proof, Ryan. Usually, a hooked fish will shake the lead free from the clip if it hasn’t ejected. More effective options are very expensive in comparison though. Tight lines🙂🎣
Great to watch keep up the great videos always enjoy getting out myself and when I can’t watch your videos lol living in north Kent it’s great to see different venues I’m heading to blue anchor in sept and definitely taking my rods any advice ? Of all my years of sea fishing not had a huss spotted or conger yet and would hope to get something different :-)
Great time of year to fish at Blue Anchor for conger, the bigger the tide the better. Get on the beach, half way along. Try and catch some pout and use them for bait, 6/0 hooks and wire trace. Good luck!🎣🙂
I got one! Several attempts though bit patience paid off, didn’t get any pout but used my mackerel I caught back here in kent - I stuck the head on ! Went crazy on light gear well chuffed il pm you on fb the pic great place lovely coastline back at hoe in Kent now but will visit the BC again! After a Huss next ;-)
Fantastic video, I really want to try this mark in the near future. My only question is does it make much difference what way the worms are on? Also what are the reasons for this. Thanks in advance Steve
I'm gonna be booking a week at st,Audries, Minehead in a month or so. I'd be really grateful if anyone could tell me the best sort of dates for smooth hounds and catching some conger, thank you so very much for anyone who replies, I've never been to the Bristol channel before and haven't even sea fished for years but I really don't want to pay for a weeks caravan to spend a full day not catching anything cos the only reason for going is the fishing.
You tie a link to the end of your shock leader at home, to save doing it on the beach. You then clip the swivel of the rig on to the clip that you have tied on to the end of the shock leader.
Why do you have your real at the bottom? I cannot understand why everyone seems to be changing to having their real at the bottom. I’m disabled and in a wheelchair and I just don’t understand. Please let me know.
@@PaulRea-w3c Using the reel at the bottom makes a powerful rod feel softer, snd so easier to compress and cast. It also frees up your stronger right hand to concentrate on the cast. This is nothing new, anglers have been doing this for at least the last 30 years.
These guys are amazing, always order off VMO, they give you great advice on tackle, and phone you back for requirements. Top guys.
Well done you covered all the basics, still waiting to see the flouro rod tapes in the dark. cheers
A very useful video for anglers of all levels. Good work Jansen 👍
Hi Jansen, really enjoyed this video packed with some great tips and advice, brilliant watch. Cheers mate take care and tight lines 🙏🎣👍
Enjoyable and informative video, with fish to show for it, in demanding conditions
Go Steady
Thanks Derek🙂🎣

That took some reading, but you’re quite right, I decided to keep things very simple in this video. Thanks for the comment!

Definitely worth travelling light on Brean and Berrow beaches, that tide does race in!🎣
Plenty of straps there

SL20’s are still very good reels. I know a lot of anglers who still use them, they’re brilliant value for money!

Just watched your video mate great video as always 💯🎣👍
Just come across this video what a great video indeed
May i ask what mark this was
I'm in south wales
Looked like tough conditions, fished there before and it's not easy. Good going Jansen, some top advice too. :-)
The wind didn’t make it easy! Thanks Rob.

Thanks Steve. I like to have the head of the worm on the hook point. Sole take ragworm head first, so it makes sense. Tight lines!🙂🎣
Fantastic video ! What knots do you for your hooks and rigs ?
Thank you! Generally Grinner knot/Uni knot, but if I want a tag end to assist with holding bait on a hook, I use a half blood knot.
Hope that helps🙂🎣
@@thegamblingangler thank you
Great video as usual Henson the prawn do you take the shell off or leave it on .
I leave the shell on the head and remove the rest of it🙂🎣
@@thegamblingangler cheers for the reply keep the videos coming .
Hi jensen cracking video as always where did u get your cap thanks
Thanks Stuart, that one was direct from Anyfish Anywhere- 01803 213555, mention this video and they might be able to help you out🙂
Thanks a lot jensen
Hi jensen what's the white things hanging under your reels thanks
@@stuartcross749 Have a look on the VMO site for ‘Grip Strip’. They’re used to grip the spool when you’re casting.
Hi jensen did you peel the crab thanks
Whats the name of the clip you have for holding rotten bottom to the splash down clip bud?
Look up RBC on Veals Mail Order website 🙂
Where do you park for this mark

can someone explain 6:14 how do you get the swviel of you rig and the line into the clip, without tying a knot
You tie a link to the end of your shock leader at home, to save doing it on the beach. You then clip the swivel of the rig on to the clip that you have tied on to the end of the shock leader.
👏👏🎣🎣
do you peel the prawns or leave all the shell and legs on?
I leave the shell on the head, but peel the rest and trim it back by an inch or so🙂
